    OOPS reupload because the first time I accidentally left 'audio' unchecked on premiere.
    Also! Note that those screws on the pocket voltex's knobs aren't supposed to be there, they're supposed to be using grub screws like the pico voltex. But during the 2018 batch, the manufacturer didn't add grub screws for all of the orders (if I recall correctly) so I bought a long screw to use instead.

      Two quick questions:
      1. Is sound voltex free
      &
      2. Can you play it without the controller can you just play it on a keyboard
      Question mark
      ?
      Edit: Btw don’t ask why I do
      ‘Question mark
      ?’
      It’s what I do シ

    Sound Voltex is a game that always interested me for a long time but without a controler, hard to play

    • @DonnyKirkMusic
      @DonnyKirkMusic 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I'm actually thinking of what the cheapest way to get an analog knob would be, because that way you could just use your keyboard and have the knobs near your keyboard, so like a ghetto version of a Sound Voltex controller. That's really what makes this game have odd/difficult-to-aquire controls.
      Really, mainly I'm looking into analog knob controllers to play retro games with; I forgot this game uses those as part of its gameplay. I've already looked at those USB volume controllers and as far as I can tell they are all "digital" (so its like a D-Pad compared to an analog stick) and aren't smooth-feeling like the knob is supposed to be. But there ARE arcade dials that use USB, but they are just bare parts and not an actual controller with a shell.
      Pretty much the best way would to be to make a dial-box, so basically like a Hitbox but with just a dial and a couple of buttons.

    • @DonnyKirkMusic
      @DonnyKirkMusic 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@Cobalt985 ahhh, thank you for pointing that out actually. I was looking too much at arcade parts like spinners which cost a lot (to be fair, that is because they are big hunks of metal and more accurate; Spintrak does 1200ppr which is needed for a couple of games like arkanoid). but for this game, i bet its fine.

      I recently learned you could even play it on a keyboard, and yeah, fun but not as much as the arcade, but the one that has cabs is 2 hours away so I caved and ordered a faucetwo

  • @idle_sheep

    Honestly I love this. The biggest barrier to entry to sound voltex has always been the expensive controllers (yes I know you can use a keyboard but come on). It has its cons but these cheaper options to at least lower the barrier to entry for new players is amazing and I think is gonna be what finally pushes me to play sound voltex myself. Thanks for the review!

    • @chiaseed7974
      @chiaseed7974 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah having a controller gives a better experience. It also gives that arcade feel. We don't have that much rhythm arcades here since there don't sell well and I kinda miss that feeling

    Ive been using this controller for over 6 months now, I was an original buyer of prototype and current versions! I love this controller and after 6 months it is still perfectly fine! Also a great way to prevent the sliding of the controller is to use some magnets under your mouse pad, then just put the other connecting magnets on the feet of the controller! :D

  • @Neardayo
    @Neardayo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +54

    well I think you've already said this in the video but my personal thought / experience about this is you can just buy a cheap controller with a few more dollars and the knobs were missing a lot even though I spent weeks to get used to it.
    portability and minimized noise are what makes this thing a very good option, but for those who already have the normal controller or capable of having them, I'll answer them with this 🤔

    • @nadesicola
      @nadesicola 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think for the average person, the size makes it difficult to play as well. I got to play with a pocket voltex and I had a hard time since my muscle memory was for arcade controller dimensions. My hands were clumsily smacking each other on more difficult charts.

    • @Teksnek42
      @Teksnek42 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@nadesicola for me doing the opposite, i straight up miss buttons but i get back into the groove in a few songs

    • @tokaku
      @tokaku  2 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      I actually noticed the knobs dropping missing slams or dropping lasers too, I think it's because the knobs have zero deadzone unlike faucetwo or sound voltex cabs, so you have to spin them later.
      overall for muscle memory it's not good because it's small but just for something people who rather smaller stuff that's cheaper without realising that an actual controller is ultimately better

    • @darreneck8219
      @darreneck8219 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@tokaku I noticed this with my pico voltex on USC. there is a separate laser offset adjustment in the settings, which I set differently than my button offset, until the laser timing felt much much better and what I was used to from the arcade. And the amount of lasers/slams dropped decreased significantly for me.
      It's now awesome to learn/recognize difficult patters at home with pico voltex, then do the real thing on an arcade machine after.

    I still have my Pocket Voltex Rev4 from ages ago, and I still love it, though it's gotten very little use.
    I think the keys sound a little bit louder on the Pico, and I wonder if that's the keycaps being a little bit thinner plastic. Maybe some thick PBT or the 1.25u G20s could be quieter?

      @incongruous4 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Get some decent tactiles like u4t boba, lube them with 3203, slap on some gmk keycaps and it'll sound and feel great. Even if you don't want to shell out the money on a full gmk set you can probably get the 7 keycaps for cheap on mechmarket.

    Anyone that has the capability to DIY I would highly recommend mon's PocketVoltex. It is completely open sources where you can get all the CAD and Gerber files for the case and PCB, which will bring down the total cost by a lot. For those who just want to get a Pocket controller, the price for Pico Voltex isn't too bad, but if you are totally new to SDVX you might as well consider to get a full size controller for a little more money (like yuancon cheapest one cost USD130).
