  • First look and trying out the ipega mini project diva controller for Project Diva MegaMix Nintendo Switch. It's about $65USD and it's... I guess it's great! Except for the issues I'm getting with this thing... So be careful when you buy this, you might get a defective unit like I did. I hope you have a soldering iron, solder sucker and spare switches around to fix this if you're as unlucky as I was...
    Controller: www.amazon.co.jp/s?k=ipega+pr...
Well, I was lucky it was in stock, I was unlucky to get the controller I did

I've been dying to know what was inside, I've built PD controllers, and game controllers in general and couldn't figure out for the life of me why this one was so odd, and how they got a touch sensor at such a low price. 8:20 - My bet would be that it wasn't cheap solder (I mean, it probably was cheap) but that it was leadfree solder. Leadfree solder is a lot more annoying to solder, and melts at around 220°C compared to around 180°C for normal leaded solder.

    • @Noboruu

      This.
Leadfree is starting to get more use because of environment concerns, but jesus christ is leadfree a pain to work with.
I've seen amateurs kill chips around what they were trying to desolder because of leadfree, granted that's because they were amateurs and fucked up, but still the issue was the higher temperature they had to be using and werent used to

Next time also if something is loud you can use a rag or old shirt to cut squares and tape or glue the squares over the speaker. Start with 1 square and repeat as needed. This only works the speaker is way to crispy and to much hiss, this comes in handy there when you need a "low pass" filter, but may not fix the problem if the speaker is overeriven to the point of saturation and resonating the case in the low mids

I bought one of these (as someone who had never tried any arcade-style rhythm game controls before) and, in my experience, the touch bar is practically unusable, at least compared to how responsive the input feels with the Switch's regular controllers and even Tap Play.
I also can't seem to get the feature of plugging the Switch onto the unit to work like everyone else seems to be able to.
I don't have the technical know-how to take the controller apart, and I don't have the personal confidence to call or email anyone about it, so idk what to do lol
    UPDATE:
I have literally no idea what I did differently, but I just got the whole "put the Switch on it and it works" feature to work, and it's fun to play this way.
That is, again, except for slide inputs.
Either I greatly underestimate how sensitive the touchbar system is meant to be or my particular controller's touchbar is a victim of some kind of manufacturing imperfection.

Greetech is a manufacturer of low cost Cherry MX style switches. They're alright but most of their switches are definitely lower tiered than the big manufacturers like JWK, Cherry, Gateron or Kailh.

So what's the touch slider thing even for? Is it required to play diva on switch? I was thinking of buying the PS3 controller for diva and using a wingman to convert it to switch. Since it's more affordable than the other diva controllers.

basically there are slide notes in FT games, you can either use a touch slider for them or just normal joysticks.

Just bought one. No issues with sticky buttons just the slide input doesn't seem to match what I'm doing. Still very fun to play :)
