Wonderful !! Being the novice I am in cooking, I followed your instructions in detail step by step using my instant pot. The Biryani was delicious and turned out to be way better than what I expected ! Thank you for the recipe and the demo.
I’m glad yours turned out perfect mine keep saying food burn I tried everything to make it work including transferring food to different bowl while scrubbing pot out completely in sink to ensure completely free of debri also even added more water and still it showed food burn. Any advice on what I may have done wrong and what I can try next tome to prevent this??
Thank you Thas, I just made this dish. It was amazing, I did not have mint leaves but still came out great. I think I needed to saute my onions a bit more but I'll be making this dish again. Namaste
That's great to know you enjoyed this biryani, thanks for your feedback. Next time, please add mint leaves will enhance the flavor & taste greatly. While sauteing onions, ensure not to saute till onions turn brown as they can get stuck to the pot and can give burn message while cooking the rice.
This is an excellent recipe for the instant pot, also with detailed instructions on how to use the pot. The biryani turned out to be absolutely delicious. Thanks a lot, Thasneen, for this video. After this, I tried many of your recipes and they were always a success. Really appreciate it!
Tas, thank you so much for teaching me how to make a delicious biriyani. It comes out amazing each time. I add chopped coriander instead of cilantro. And garnish it with fried chopped mushrooms cooked (slowly and sepatately) on the gas stove with a splas of soy sauce. Gives the biriyani a different dimension.
Everyone who know me can tell what a disaster I am with cooking. I accidentally landed on this video and since it sounded easy I tried. Its unbelievable how it turned out to be better than any restaurants. I can't thank you enough for this recipe. I am now force feeding this biryani to anyone who visits our house 😈. Thnaks a ton!
@@thasneen could you pls tell how should the quantity of ingredients vary if I make changes to the quantity of rice. I understood the proportion of water to rice but would like to know how do I manage the other masalas. Thanks in advance!
I tried this recipe twice, once without cilantro and mint leaves and once with cilantro and mint leaves. The taste of the second version was a bit better, but you can definitely skip these if they are not available in your area. @Thas does adding saffron in biryani makes a noticeable difference?
Adding saffron will make the biryani taste even more flavourful and imparts a distinct and incredible aroma. My 2 must adds to biryani are saffron & fresh mint. Thanks for your feedback, glad to know turned out great for you :)
Say, i’m also going to do your pasta shrimp dump and go instant pot recipe today. I would like to make double the amount however. Do I double the time in the instant pot?
Awesome, if you haven't done the initial run please do the initial test run to ensure everything is working well & the pressure is building. Here is the quick video: th-cam.com/video/1pvBNmWAViU/w-d-xo.html A few tips: Please ensure onions are not sautéed till brown and stuck to the bottom of the pot, if the pot turns brown, while pressure cooking IP will display burn. Also, for 2 cups rice, 2 or 2 1/4 cups liquid is required (good to measure the liquid in the pot after cooking the chicken and then add additional water). Note: 2 1/4 cups liquid will make the rice soft. Hope you enjoy this recipe, do let me know your feedback :)
I think this recipe only works with certain models of instant pot. The Duo Plus model I have didn’t come up to pressure and instead kept on preheating until the food started burning (went above 100C. My guess is that the rice absorbs steam too fast in some models for the pressure to build enough.
also had the same problem with the duo, not sure why but the site suggested to deglaze the pot with cool water before using pressure cooking. probably it senses the pot is too hot so the heating is cut but not enough steam is produced to pressurize, until eventually it burns the food
@@benazirrafi6426I'd suggest that you need to add more water. Others have suggested adding 1 cup of water when cooking the chicken & 1.5 cups (instead of just 1 cup) when cooking the rice.
I had exactly the same experience although I attempted a lamb biryani (this was before seeing Thas' video). I was trying to judge how much gravy was in the pot after cooking the korma, so as to decide how much additional water was needed for the rice. Obviously I got it wrong & ended up with the Duo Plus not pressurizing & the bottom burning. Oh well, we learn from our mistakes. More water next time.
Thanks for sharing this video...I do almost the same..one small modification is I use the Manual mode and adjust the time...~ 8 Min, once the timer is elapsed..I release all the Steam..This worked for me.
So I was reading through comments to see who else has already tried this recipe and luckily I found you! Did u ever experience food burn in the instant pot while making this dish? I tried it out last night and 3 times it said food burn even after transferring entire meal to another dish and scrubbing out out in sink completely free of debri and adding even more water it still said food burn again.
Thank you for the recipe. The flavor was super yummy. Just had one problem. My biriyani was little burnt on the bottom. How can I avoid that the next time?
Glad you liked the recipe. Onions might have stuck to the bottom and burnt. Avoid sauteing onions till brown and ensure onions are not stuck to the bottom before adding chicken. For 2 cups rice ensure 2 1/4 to 2 1/2 cups water is in the pot for cooking rice. Please do watch my video on how to avoid & fix IP burn for express chicken biryani: th-cam.com/video/ztmWll5sLe0/w-d-xo.html
Thanks so much for making this video for us. Love it and wanted to learn how to make it. Thanks again. BTW your directions and editing are great and to the point.
That’s not Biryani in Biryani we make gravy separate and than boil white rice and put one top of gravy ( gravy has quite dry ) keep it on low flame for a while and than when it’s done mix. This is not close to Biryani
many use smart watch like yours. i too had purchased, but it was not turning on as I move hand slowly but if I raise hand quickly it used to turn on to see the time. returned and amazon gave me 100 percent money back. normal classic watch I like
Hi, was there any specific reason why you used manual pressure cooker option instead of the rice cooker button? Thank you. This looks great. I just unboxed my IP last night. Will make rajma today and biryani on weekend. In my water test I was shocked how quiet it was. I grew up with mom using pressure cooker and I use it too. Boy they can be noisy. But huge time savers. Haha.
Rice setting has a default time of 12 minutes, time cannot be changed. White basmati rice only requires 5 to 6 minutes of pressure cooking. Hence, I had to use pressure setting :) Welcome to IP club, it's an amazing appliance and yes it stays so quiet and does it magic and cooks faster than traditional pressure cooker. While making this biryani, please ensure onions are not sautéed till brown, if onions are stuck to the bottom of the pot will give burn sign. Do let me know your feedback, enjoy cooking in IP :)
@@thasneen thank you Thas. I will let you know how it turns out. Today I just made rajma as its something I am used to making on stove top pressure cooker too. Turned out great.
As much as I love this recipe but I think it’s more a chicken pilau rather than a traditional biryani recipe....but looks delicious and simple enough nevertheless 👍
It's the start of 2022 here in America. I just got my Ninja foody like your from Amazon today and wanted to know how to make goat pulao, now I got it. Thanks for your video ☺️📸 greatly appreciated 🙂👍
Burned. Had at least 2 cups of liquid. I see other people have had the same issue. Maybe some Instant Pots get hotter than others. Smells great in my house but it burned and went to the garbage.
I should probably add that the rice was over cooked and mushy which shows I had too much water yet it still burned to the bottom of the pot. I followed the recipe from the website which is a bit different from the video but should not have had an impact on the outcome. I really believe my Instant Pot gets too hot and that's why it burned the rice to the bottom even though everything in the pot was still wet. I even made sure the bottom was deglazed before pressure cooking the chicken.
I've tried this recipe a few times. As shown in this video, the biryani came out perfect- wasn't burnt: Reasons: I didn't add too many onions (more onions can result in a thick gravy and could stick to the bottom while cooking chicken) , had the right amount of water and rice was not over cooked. However, another time I made this biryani-the gravy was thick due to more onions and was stuck to the bottom while cooking rice and got burnt. I had to clean up the pot, add some more water and cooked the rice: was able to recover the biryani :) Basmati rice when cooked for 5 mins shouldn't be overcooked. Instant Pot getting too hot could be a possibility- you can call the customer service and they will send you a new one- their customer service is excellent and they really care about the customers and listen to our feedback :) Hope this helps and sorry the biryani didn't turn out good :(
Thank you Thas for the easy chicken biryani recipe. I just made it and I can't believe it turned out so delicious. This is my second dish in the instant pot. Finally, I can say I know how to make chicken biryani🙏😊
So quick, thank you so much! I was just looking at your website & saw that recipe! I’m so glad to have found you! I have this weeks food planned! I will be passing along your website to my friends as it also has your TH-cam channel as well. You really are awesome!
Looks like a very yummy dish and very well explained. Only quibble I have is the lack of care in handling raw chicken and then touching spice jars and other items. Really should be washing hands to prevent spread of salmonella.
Before & after handling the chicken, hands were thoroughly washed before touching the spice jars or literally anything else and also the work station. If I had to include my hand washing shots, this video would have been a much longer one :) It's obvious & I believe that everyone knows and should follow proper hand washing while handling meat, not just the hands, clean up the work station as well. Thanks for your concern though, Cheers!

Wonderful !! Being the novice I am in cooking, I followed your instructions in detail step by step using my instant pot. The Biryani was delicious and turned out to be way better than what I expected ! Thank you for the recipe and the demo.
You are welcome, glad you liked the recipe.

This is the 10th time I’ve made this and watched this video, one of my favourite meals
Thank you 😊 I’m honoured!
This is an excellent recipe for the instant pot, also with detailed instructions on how to use the pot. The biryani turned out to be absolutely delicious. Thanks a lot, Thasneen, for this video. After this, I tried many of your recipes and they were always a success. Really appreciate it!
Thank you so much for your wonderful feedback :) So glad to know you enjoyed the biryani & other recipes :) Stay tuned for more Instant Pot recipes :)
Glad you enjoy this biryani, thanks for the feedback :)
Tried this today. Came out really well. Very simple and effective. Thanks for awesome recipe and simplicity in making it.
My pleasure 😊
Made this biryani today 🙏🏻😇 wonderful recipe 🙏🏻❤️ thanks for sharing, god bless you
So happy to know you enjoyed this biryani, thanks for the feedback :)
Thanks Deepthi for your wonderful feedback, so glad to know it turned out great for you and everyone enjoyed the biryani :)
@@thasneen could you pls tell how should the quantity of ingredients vary if I make changes to the quantity of rice. I understood the proportion of water to rice but would like to know how do I manage the other masalas. Thanks in advance!
@@dandroid5598 If you want to double up the rice, please double up the amount of onions/masalas accordingly.
I bought instant pot just to make biriyani and enjoy it. Thank you very much.
Most welcome 😊 Do try other dishes as well- here is my IP recipe playlist: bit.ly/2MAHTTa
Thank you for the recipe. I tried it, everyone liked it.
Glad to know you enjoyed the biryani, thanks for your feedback 😊
Wonderful recipe... thanks you so much for sharing this. I made this at least 2 time per month... my daughter love it too... it freeze very well too
So glad to know, thanks for your feedback 😊
I just made it and after a few modifications for the families taste buds everyone loved it. I also made fresh raita 😜
Glad everyone enjoyed this biryani, thanks for the feedback :)
@@thasneen , I even made the Raita which turned out amazing :-) I love how easily you can change these recipes and make them your own...
Watching the video again to make the delicious express IP biriyani after few months. Thanks again for the ever popularrecipe 😋
Most welcome & glad to know you enjoy this biryani :)
Effortless timeless perfection no compromise with taste perfect taste perfect spice salt all so on the point
Thanks a lot for the wonderful feedback, glad you enjoyed this biryani 😊
I'm going to make this tomorrow - we bought an Instant Pot for Christmas.
Say, i’m also going to do your pasta shrimp dump and go instant pot recipe today. I would like to make double the amount however. Do I double the time in the instant pot?
Awesome, if you haven't done the initial run please do the initial test run to ensure everything is working well & the pressure is building. Here is the quick video: th-cam.com/video/1pvBNmWAViU/w-d-xo.html
A few tips: Please ensure onions are not sautéed till brown and stuck to the bottom of the pot, if the pot turns brown, while pressure cooking IP will display burn.
No need to double the time, IP will take longer time to get the contents up to pressure/temp so that way will be cooked for longer time.
@@thasneen excellent tip Will do
@@thasneen love it thank you!
Just tried it yesterday. It was so good. Ty for the tutorial
Great to hear!
Wat to do in this case
Instant Pot is a life saver. I love making dishes in Instant Pot and Biryani is one of them.
Indeed it is. Do try the easiest dump & go recipes: bit.ly/2Rh0GFs
Loved the video! you explained each and every step in the cooking process. Can't wait to try it.
Hope you like it, do let me know your feedback.
Thanks for sharing this video...I do almost the same..one small modification is I use the Manual mode and adjust the time...~ 8 Min, once the timer is elapsed..I release all the Steam..This worked for me.
Thanks for your feedback, Glad to know biryani turned out good for you.
I also had a issue with the food burning..but thanks for the advice.. will definitely not overdo my onions
Wow nice recipe. Thanks for sharing
Thanks so much for making this video for us. Love it and wanted to learn how to make it. Thanks again. BTW your directions and editing are great and to the point.
You are so welcome! Glad you liked the video :)
Bonjour j’ai fait le biryani aujourd’hui c’est délicieuse merci beaucoup pour votre recette
Very good explanation of using the pressure pot....
Thank you, do try this express biryani.
Tried this recipe! It was so good in terms of texture and taste. Thank you so much!
Glad you enjoyed, thanks for the feedback :)
I love Indian food, so good but I feel that Biranyi is so close to Makloba which is an Iraqi/ Arabic recipe. Both are awesome.
Wow amazing… am making this by watching your video
Hope you enjoyed this biryani 😊
As much as I love this recipe but I think it’s more a chicken pilau rather than a traditional biryani recipe....but looks delicious and simple enough nevertheless 👍
It's missing shah zeera main ingredient of biryani.. but easy to do for something quick abs delicious
Brather u helped me so so much in university, thanku I was able to make food
Glad to hear that 😊
Thank you so much for this detailed recipe. It came out super delicious. Followed your recipe to the T. This recipe is a keeper!!

It's the start of 2022 here in America. I just got my Ninja foody like your from Amazon today and wanted to know how to make goat pulao, now I got it. Thanks for your video ☺️📸 greatly appreciated 🙂👍
Glad to know, enjoy this recipe.
I am sold !
Thanks for sharing this awesome recipe
My pleasure 😊 hope you enjoy this biryani :)
I had to clean up the pot, add some more water and cooked the rice: was able to recover the biryani :)
Basmati rice when cooked for 5 mins shouldn't be overcooked.
So glad to know biryani turned out great for you :) Thanks for trying the recipe and for your feedback.
So quick, thank you so much! I was just looking at your website & saw that recipe! I’m so glad to have found you! I have this weeks food planned! I will be passing along your website to my friends as it also has your TH-cam channel as well. You really are awesome!
Thanks for your kind words, glad to have connected with you. Enjoy cooking in IP :)
Arumaiyana, suviyana and attahasamana one pot chicken biryani.
Thank you so much for putting english subtitles 💚💙💛
🎉
Looks like a very yummy dish and very well explained. Only quibble I have is the lack of care in handling raw chicken and then touching spice jars and other items. Really should be washing hands to prevent spread of salmonella.
Before & after handling the chicken, hands were thoroughly washed before touching the spice jars or literally anything else and also the work station. If I had to include my hand washing shots, this video would have been a much longer one :) It's obvious & I believe that everyone knows and should follow proper hand washing while handling meat, not just the hands, clean up the work station as well. Thanks for your concern though, Cheers!
This looks so good
And easy
I am very impressed with this recipe, this reminds me of arroz con pollo (rice and chicken) just the ingredients are different but almost the same
Glad you liked this recipe, thank you :)
