Native San Diegan here. Not including the obvious like The SD Zoo and other family parks, or downtown highlights, here is my own list of places to see includes: 1.Balboa Park. Right near downtown, amazing World's Fair architecture, promenades, Botanical Buildings, performers, fountains, Japanese gardens, arts and crafts, museums...it kind of has it all for couples and families. 2.La Jolla/Bird Rock. About as fancy as San Diego gets, but still laid back. Walk along the cove and watch the seals. It is called The Jewel of San Diego for a reason 3.Mission Beach/Pacific Beach. Where the young people party. One of the best beaches in the county. Great surfing and people watching on the boardwalk. Lots of bars. Best place for 4th of July (take an Uber, there will be no parking). 4.Ocean Beach. The old soul of San Diego. Reminds me most of old-school San Diego. More bohemian. A little more gritty, but tons of character and the best pier in town. Go have some oyster shooters and fish tacos at South Beach Bar & Grill. Doesn't get more SD than that. 5.Torrey Pines State Park. Probably the prettiest spot for a hike because it is right next to the ocean. The cliffs are surreal looking from below. Amazing little hiking trails that go down to the beach. Quite a workout going up. Afterwards you can grab a really decent burger at the clubhouse restaurant at Torrey Pines Lodge. 6.Coronado Island. You have to see Coronado if you come to SD. The views across the bay of the city or the peninsula are incredible. The old estates on this island are really something to see. The Hotel Del is a true national landmark. Have a buffet brunch facing the sea. The food is nothing special, but it is worth every penny just being there. Coronado also probably has the best beach in the county. It is huge and has gold flecks in the sand. Very family friendly. 7.Cabrillo Monument. On a clear day you HAVE to drive up to this historical site. The museum and the lighthouse are interesting, but you really come up for the view of downtown and the bay. It is truly stunning. 8.Kate Sessions Park/Mt Soledad. The park is my go to spot for setting up an umbrella and having a picnic. The view of Pacific Beach below is panoramic and beautiful. Lots of grass for the kids or dogs to run around on. There are also often free musical acts playing there. Go further up the hill and you will find a war memorial cross on Mt Soledad. While paying your respects you can really get a true 360 degree view of the area. Although there is definitely a night life in San Diego, it really is a daytime town. The weather is so awesome you may as well take full advantage of it. Finish your day off by having a Mai Tai at Bali Hai on Shelter Island. More amazing views across the bay and some of the best/strongest drinks in town.
Botanical Gardens at Balboa Park is shuttered for renovations that never seem to happen. Starlight Theater also totally shuttered, stands in disrepair. And stay off the trails without some company as there is a homeless encampment around every bend
Just returned form SD. Its so beautiful, we stayed at the Bahia Resort. The amenities were awesome, free boat rides, activities for the kids and it was right on the water/beach. We were there for 4 days/5 nights wish we had more time. I cannot wait to return.

The 805 south can usually get very heavy with traffic around 3pm-8pm. the 805 connects from the 5 if you are coming into El Cajon, Spring Valley, and La Mesa.
13:45 a nice Ferrari California on the left. Coming from where I live, Yukon Canada (middle of nowhere) seeing the exotic cars is always a fun experience when traveling South.
For me San Diego is the city that offers the very best of SoCal. Somehow everything looks and feels better, brighter, and more pleasurable in San Diego. I absolutely love everything about the city; from the Balboa Park/San Diego Zoo, to the Gaslamp Quarter, to the shopping scene, to the incomparable La Jolla, to the magnificent beaches, to Coronado, and everything in between. San Diego is a magical place that makes you feel great about being alive and celebrating life. Loved your presentation. 👍🏻👏🏻
I absolutely feel the same way! I’m moving back later this year after two years away (in Japan!) and I couldn’t be more excited if I was moving to Disneyland. It’s magical.
We visited San Deigo when we went to Seaworld in the June of 1996 while on vaccation in L.A for a fortnight. It was great.I got the impression that San Deigo was a beautiful place. We came on a shuttle bus organised by the hotel down interstate 5 from Los Angeles and the traffic was crazy.Thankyou for this interesting video.
Visited San Diego in winter. Weather was beautiful. Able to use public transport to get around, met some great people, the place has a great vibe about it. The diversity of San Diego is what makes it special. So much pride in their home town and it shows. Loved everything about wierd thing for us Aussies is staying in Downtown and the place at 5pm is so dead. I realise now downtown is a place you go to for work and nothing else.
Liberty Public Market is a fun place to spend an afternoon or evening. The food is great there but there is other great food around the place. Con Pane makes great fresh bread. Slater's 50/50 makes burgers to die for and has over 100 beers on tap. Stone Brewery has a location. There is several nice parks with playgrounds for children. Corvette Diner if you want to have a 50's diner experience, it is a San Diego institution. They even have an upscale movie theater, complete with restaurant, bar and at seat service during the movie. I could go on and on.
Proud to be a San Diegan born and raised. We have so much cool stuff in our wonderful city, from Balboa Park to the zoo, the county fair, Legoland and all the beaches.

It is a great city with so many things to do that we would never have enough time to explore everything. Thanks for the Great Video!
Just booked a January San Diego trip with my 11 year old. Will be watching all of your videos on the area. We are staying at Hotel Del Coronado thanks to Hilton free night certificates
One if the best military museums in the country is located on the boot camp next to the airport. All you need to go visit is good ID such as a driver's license because normally, the base is closed to the public.
What authentic food do you recommend in Tijuana? San Diego taco shop food is unique, greasy and delicious. Rolled tacos with guac, carne asada burritos and fish tacos.
@Dawn Worth I used to know about carne asada chips in '96. I was a vegetarian at the time so I'd get it without the meat. I don't know if they did the fries back then, though.
Nice to know about the airport so close to the high buildings! I am from Hong Kong, our old airport Kai Tak was also notorious for the same reason. I definitely would sit on the left side when I fly into SD airport
Did it - was disappointed when my flight time changed from a daytime arrival to a night time arrival as I wanted to photograph it, however a magnificent sight.
Great recap - I'm born and raised in SD. A little-known fun fact of Coronado beach is the sand dunes near the sidewalk north of the Hotel Del are shaped to spell out Coronado. The dunes were going to spell out Coronado Beach but they only did the B of beach. Do a Google aerial search to see it.
My favorite Mexican place for carnitas burritos was Los cuarantos millipas. Spelling? Out in national city right by the bridge. Its been several years since I left but I really miss it there. And best gambling was Viejas. The others were tighter then you know what.
let me suggest you some restaurants in San Diego: - Authentic Hawaiian Poke (Hawaiian Grindz) at "it's raw poke shop" on Newport Ave (Ocean Beach). (I go to Hawaii, Honolulu and Maui regularly, this one is up there with them) and the owner is from Mililani in Oahu. - $5.00 All you can eat Tacos on every Tuesday (with a purchase of a drink) at the "American Junkie" on 5th Ave (Gaslamp). - great cheap tacos with housemate tortillas at "Micho's" (inside the bar called Atomic) on 5th Ave (Gaslamp). - great cheap tacos at "Tacos Mimi" on Cass st (Pacific Beach). cheap and good, make sure you order side of fries too. - "Dos Brasas" on San Diego Ave (Old Town), try their Menudo (tripe soup) and lots of things.
When you mentioned getting around in and from the airport. I would like to add that there is a shuttle bus from the airport that takes you near the Middletown trolley station. From there you can take the trolley to downtown, old town, mission valley, etc. Another option is the bus which will take you right to downtown.
If you're looking for more of a mellow, less "clubby" spot in the gaslamp, check out The Hopping Pig. They have really good selection of craft beer and cocktails, plus their bar food is really good!

Yo this is awesome! I was just in San Diego during March for spring break. We had an amazing time there and want to go back many times. The weather was beautiful in SD and we really enjoyed the Ofo/ Lime bikes and scooters! Keep up the great work Chris!!
My favorite month is September... still good weather to visit the beach... water is still warm. October gets a bit cooler, ocean water is too cold to go in. It's still a fine month to visit... but September is the best in my opinion :)
I took a bus from the airport to a trolley station downtown. It was slow but otherwise okay. Best part is you can buy and load a Compass transit card in the airport and use it on all the buses and trolleys. The trolley line that takes you to the border is pretty great, it's SO much faster to go through customs on foot than waiting in the enormous line for automobiles.
When we fly into the Airport we always take metro bus to the downtown area but this time we rented a car so but I just wanted to let you know so you can correct that on your next video thanks
Hello, I visited different parts of San Diego but still didn't have a good picture of the whole geography. This video helped me get a good view where each of them are located and their proximity to each other. Great work!
Hey! Thank you for explaining in detail what to do, where to eat & stay while in San Diego. I look forward to visiting this city next month. Your video helped alot :)
Going to San Diego in 2 weeks, I'm really excited and looking forward to seeing the city and the nice weather for 13 days 👍🙂🇩🇰 Thanks for your video inspiration
You’re wrong about public transit not running to the airport. The 992 bus will take you to downtown every 15 minutes. If you have time and the patience, I recommend people checking transit routes on Google maps.
Yellow Productions ...just take the trolley to Santa Fe Depot or America Plaza, then hop on the 992 right there on Kettner & Broadway Give yourself enough time and it’s VERY EASY 👌
Update 2022, from Old Town Transit Station, you can park free and take the Flyer free straight to the airport. The drivers are aggressive, but you get there.
Flying into SD next Saturday. We are planning on renting a car to visit my daughter at Mirimar. We are staying at at Hilton on the harbor (I think, my wife booked it) But for getting around downtown and visiting places like Little Italy, would the trolley be a better option, and what does it cost?
Great video, I am planning to come to San Diego this coming August with my then 2 year old from SC! I will be using uber everywhere and I am coming to see the Sesame Park, Zoo and Safari what area would you recommend to stay downtown or what city?
I will visit San Diego with my mother soon. I want to visit the San Diego Zoo and other botanic gardens. Should I rent a car or Uber is ok over there? Thank you.
You helped me a ton with Vegas tips hotels and etc. Definitely want to go to San Diego With my wife and my 5 year Where should I stay and where shouldn’t I stay? I might have some free time from work later this month.. what little city should we stay at? Definitely want to check beaches zoo and bunch of other stuff Really depends on renting a car if their is area we can walk or if we really need a car
Hi Bootattoos.. that's a really hard question to answer because there are so many choices. I'd say rent a car and stay around Old Town or Mission Valley/Hotel Circle. There's a couple hotels around Mission Bay that are nice too
Amtrak is all good unless it breaks down, happened to us, took all afternoon to get there.. Stayed at the Best Western downtown, good value and great location...San Diego is fab!!
Dear Friend: I am a fan of the railroads and I am going to travel to the United States in the month of June next. I will visit the cities of Los Angeles, Las Vegas and San Francisco and possibly San Diego. I need to know what routes it recommends to do, either between cities or urban systems, such as trams in different cities. Which route recommends me to do with beautiful views. Thank you very much and I greet you Fausto Brindisi from Argentina
Masterful presentation of a superficial slice of San Diego. I would add a couple of strong toppings to the slice. Chris, maybe you and your viewers are too la dee da to be caught dead riding a bus, but I really like the bus service in San Diego, and it's cheap. There is good bus service from the airport to downtown, and I always take the bus to Coronado and other areas. Of course busses may expose tourists to a side of San Diego that isn't so pretty, but if one wants to experience the socially authentic and challenged part of San Diego -- and why not? -- take the bus. Mingle with the working people. Once I was taking the bus from Coronado to San Diego to go to the baseball game, and one bus passenger led the packed bus in singing Take Me Out To The Ball Game. It started slow, but he got all of us singing. I've also heard great open conversations on the bus, like the man who talked about his marriage and said he'd been married 23 years and said, "Oh we're just starting." How beautiful. Get your asses on the busses people for some shots of reality. For another topping, try the cigar lounges, they are awesome. Also, check Yelp for great pizza and Mexican food.
Hah! I'm glad you had a good experience on the bus! It just doesn't really go the routes that I seem to want to go... but I'm glad to hear you had a positive experience on it! And yes... this is absolutely the "tourist" slice of San Diego.
What tips/advice do you have for someone who is trying to relocate there? I'm planning to relocate there from Florida in the upcoming year. What is the best reasonable area to live at that is kid friendly?
Good video. I would have added that if you just walk a few blocks out of gaslamp you can get great food for more reasonable prices. Places around Market and 9th or further into east village for example. Also shout out to petco park which is a very nice baseball stadium, and the padres are lousy so great tickets for $25 are easy to find. Also, Hodad's is better than In n out :)
I'm studying in Washington right now and really want to go to San Diego. I'm 17 and I've never traveled alone before, any advice? I'm quite scared tho😂 I'm gonna be there either April or May.
Honestly not much in San Diego is different. Downtown had a few more homeless right now as it seems everywhere does. And the busy centers are less bustling. Beaches are still packed
His food recommendations were on the el cheap o side. Who wants to vacation and hit cheap chain restaurants. Goo knowledge that the gaslamp district is a big fat ass mark up but still have to check and see if the food is actually good .. there's a ton of restaurants in that area now so Im guessing his food review of in the gaslamp district is pretty dated .
Hi SeaC -- Let me know what tasty treats you find. My one recommendation for you in the desert category is Extraordinary Deserts.. definitely not low end.. but some really tasty cakes/etc. Yes. It's a "sit down and order from a waiter" desert restaurant

The bus system coupled with the Trolly is absolutely doable in the core, outside of it other than a couple BRT routes, not so much.

Yo this is awesome! I was just in San Diego during March for spring break. We had an amazing time there and want to go back many times. The weather was beautiful in SD and we really enjoyed the Ofo/ Lime bikes and scooters! Keep up the great work Chris!!
Thanks Protokazy!
A bus line circles around the airport and a few convenient spots in downtown.
Whats your opinion on October? For weather? Events?
My favorite month is September... still good weather to visit the beach... water is still warm. October gets a bit cooler, ocean water is too cold to go in. It's still a fine month to visit... but September is the best in my opinion :)
@@YellowProductions fair enough, would be early October October 5th-12th
i had the experience of taking the San Diego Airport going to Louiseville, KY.
Nice
Thanks for this nice review! I'm coming to SD for the 4th time in July, this video definitely added some items to my bucket list.
Make sure to get carne asada fries. Most Mexican food spots got them on the menu.
Thanks for the report MrEricSir!
When we fly into the Airport we always take metro bus to the downtown area but this time we rented a car so but I just wanted to let you know so you can correct that on your next video thanks
Thanks Adam
Hello, I visited different parts of San Diego but still didn't have a good picture of the whole geography. This video helped me get a good view where each of them are located and their proximity to each other. Great work!
Glad it was helpful!
This is the best video about San Diego I`ve seen in you tube
Thanks Roberto!
Hey! Thank you for explaining in detail what to do, where to eat & stay while in San Diego. I look forward to visiting this city next month. Your video helped alot :)
Thanks Brianna!
Going to San Diego in 2 weeks, I'm really excited and looking forward to seeing the city and the nice weather for 13 days 👍🙂🇩🇰
Thanks for your video inspiration
ill be there from the 19th to 22nd, im from singapore and will be travelling alone!
Do you like your trip it is great
@@ClementAndre nice I really recommend checking out the San Diego zoo in Chicano park it is great
@@CrazyGamer-ih3zo Going to the Zoo next week 👍
@@cas333 nice I hope you enjoy it it's a really great place
My number one recommendation as a long time local is to pay a visit to Poway's renowned Royal Estates.
What’s there
After a hot, sunny July, 2018 , the (morning) foggy marine layer of clouds is back. Personally, I’m loving it!
Totally! Morning clouds are nice :)
Am debating to go to SD or SF. Which one? Can only do 1 city this time
Depends what you like. If you like beaches it's San Diego.. if you like more city life then it's SF
You’re wrong about public transit not running to the airport. The 992 bus will take you to downtown every 15 minutes. If you have time and the patience, I recommend people checking transit routes on Google maps.
Thanks for the addition.. I just wish the trolley would go to the airport
Yellow Productions ...just take the trolley to Santa Fe Depot or America Plaza, then hop on the 992 right there on Kettner & Broadway
Give yourself enough time and it’s VERY EASY 👌
Yellow Productions ...there’s also an airport shuttle at the Middletown trolley stop
Update 2022, from Old Town Transit Station, you can park free and take the Flyer free straight to the airport. The drivers are aggressive, but you get there.
I love San Diego been there twice in 2019 and 2020
No offense mark but do you even like Tijuana
We’re taking a cruise out of San Diego. Do you do a video on the pier? Where to park? Etc
I've never taken a cruise out of San Diego so I haven't been on that pier
I suppose not a major attraction but the Bob Hope tribute near the USS Midway is really well done.
Why is the border beach polluted? How did they get that way?
Because the Tijuana river flows out there. And its always full of pollution
I have watched like most of your videos in 5 hours. Very helpful.
Awesome.. thanks Muhannad! I've got 750 videos total on TH-cam so you probably have a few more to go :)
Juanita’s taco shop on the 101 just north of downtown Encinitas. Might be the best taco shop in the county.
Personally I like Las Cuatro Milpas in Bario Logan better
There's one at the exit just before Santa Fe on Birmingham dr. I forget the name. . You cant lose. The food is great and the carrots are hot!
Flying into SD next Saturday. We are planning on renting a car to visit my daughter at Mirimar. We are staying at at Hilton on the harbor (I think, my wife booked it) But for getting around downtown and visiting places like Little Italy, would the trolley be a better option, and what does it cost?
Since you have a car I'd still drive. Parking in San Diego isn't THAT bad. You might have to pay a parking meter and walk a few blocks
I love san diego!!! fishing is great :D
Great video, I am planning to come to San Diego this coming August with my then 2 year old from SC! I will be using uber everywhere and I am coming to see the Sesame Park, Zoo and Safari what area would you recommend to stay downtown or what city?
Awesome. I talk thru Neighborhoods to stay in on this video: th-cam.com/video/PJ_VeGVlTaI/w-d-xo.html
Hello, is there a snow weather in San Diego? Do I need to have sets of winter wears? Thank you.
Nope.. no snow in San Diego
Always the best and most informative vids for all my trip researches!
Awww. Thanks Cher!
Thank you for the video. I am going there this August with my family.
Enjoy Sam Diego!
My husband & I are visiting in August as well.
I will visit San Diego with my mother soon. I want to visit the San Diego Zoo and other botanic gardens. Should I rent a car or Uber is ok over there? Thank you.
Uber works well if you are staying around Downtown
You helped me a ton with Vegas tips hotels and etc.
Definitely want to go to San Diego With my wife and my 5 year
Where should I stay and where shouldn’t I stay? I might have some free time from work later this month.. what little city should we stay at? Definitely want to check beaches zoo and bunch of other stuff
Really depends on renting a car if their is area we can walk or if we really need a car
Can you do either a denver or Chicago travel guide if you go to those cities
If I go there then I will for sure... Not sure when that will be though :)
Dear Friend:
I am a fan of the railroads and I am going to travel to the United States in the month of June next. I will visit the cities of Los Angeles, Las Vegas and San Francisco and possibly San Diego. I need to know what routes it recommends to do, either between cities or urban systems, such as trams in different cities. Which route recommends me to do with beautiful views.
Thank you very much and I greet you
Fausto Brindisi from Argentina
Where in San Diego would I want to visit if a person wants to golf and walk to restaurants
Thank you for posting these fun informative videos
My pleasure Terry!
I don't find the bus affordable, and they don't give transfers last I heard. A day pass for tourists is doable, though.
You should make a youtube channel and cook up that slice just how you want it.
Best part
Of California and just a little correction SD population is actually around 1.4 million its the second largest city in CA :)
Thanks for the correction Shawn!
I love your videos. I use them to study English and do sightseeing.
Thanks Phoebe!
Can you do a video on cheap eats in San Diego, if you do include “Las cuatro milpas”
What tips/advice do you have for someone who is trying to relocate there? I'm planning to relocate there from Florida in the upcoming year. What is the best reasonable area to live at that is kid friendly?
I'd say the traffic is probably worse than you expect.. so live close to work/school. I general "North County" has the best schools
Yellow Productions Thank you for your response!
La Mesa, especially the downtown area is very nice.
Hi, how is the weather end of February?
Maybe day time highs of 65F and lows in the 50's. Not beach weather.. but still pleasant
Also gotta watch out for a few areas while going to Downtown San Diego there’s a lot of bums and gang members walking around as well!! Be careful
Andre, the Troll, you lie like a rug. Quit spreading b.s.
Pretty in depth of the ins and outs of San Diego!
Even including In-N-Out! :)
Yellow Productions I see what you did there! Lol
Thank you! This is just what I needed! 💕
nice video, helpful to know. wouldve been better if you mentioned more about the ins and outs of petco park padres stadium .
Thanks for the tip! Hodads is a pretty good burger too!
PB KONOS FOR BREAKFAST IS A MUST OR LUCH
Thank you for the great tips, and your positivity 😃👍🏻
Thanks Marco!
I'm studying in Washington right now and really want to go to San Diego. I'm 17 and I've never traveled alone before, any advice? I'm quite scared tho😂 I'm gonna be there either April or May.
Check out my video all about Solo travel: th-cam.com/video/eYsD99rdntU/w-d-xo.html
Thank you so much 💕 I just subscribe I love the information.
Thanks Roslyn!
would this still be the same after covid? what would be different?
Honestly not much in San Diego is different. Downtown had a few more homeless right now as it seems everywhere does. And the busy centers are less bustling. Beaches are still packed
Hi ! I'm planning on living 2 months in either San Diego or San Francisco but I really don't know what's better, what do you advise me? :)
Depends what you like.. if you like beaches and nature. I'd say San Diego. If you want more of a city life.. San Francisco
The fact that I have lived here all my life is sad knowing I can't find anything exciting to do.
That’s usually how it is in your home state or city to be honest
@@cristiancorona1635 yeah, that’s fair
I literally love your videos.
Awww. Thanks!
Yes. It's a "sit down and order from a waiter" desert restaurant
love this video btw can u do a review of the wilshire grand in los angeles
Have you done one on Catalina Island?
Not yet!
At 8:23, a bubble floats by?
It's nice to known about san Diego I'm new friend here thank you for sharing stay connected friend
Thanks Bellamarie!
Whoever made that map you used to reference has gotten Michigan so messed up.... hahaha what..... how do you screw that up?
Mission Valley is where Alto California started.
