I took on the project of restoring a 1969 Tom Sawyer. I’m at this exact step of reflooring. Was not looking forward to making stringers and doing fiberglass work because I have never done it before. This gives me hope that it’s not that complicated if you’re prepped and prepared. Do you have a materials list for this project?
Yessir. Unfortunately I don’t have a good materials list of how much wood and fiberglass I used because I pulled from the big rolls I bought for our houseboat restoration. I do think I went through 3 gallons of epoxy though.
Nice going. Doing a partial rebuild of a 1972 Winner Wildcat at the moment, same issues but not as catastrophically rotten as your floor. Needed to replace half of the floor only, stringers are filled with foam, not wood, and are still dry, so i got lucky.
The fiberglass looked incredible, I think i'll follow suit, but I'll add closed cell foam underneath for additional buoyancy and impact strength to the hull, maybe you do that in late video?
I didn’t do it on this boat but I think it might be worth it for the reasons you said. I think the foams now are a lot better quality than what was in it from 1974.
I do Marine repair for a living I rarely give out complements because people just blow you off and cant even say a simple thanks ! But dude you nailed it I have no clue how you learned to do this my only question is why make the keel stringer out of ply wood and more epoxy you woulde of been better of with a 2X 12 and saved all the extra time cutting and sandwhiching the plywood together , Also why didnt you put a glaze of resin on the underneath of the ply wood for the floor , Excellent job dude I have no clue how to do this but would like to learn
Main reason for the plywood was to practice for the houseboat stringers we are doing, since they need to be 2-3 layers of plywood and maybe 40’ long. I think in the houseboat builds it’s a little tough to find straight lumber that long (at least that we can afford). The bottom of the plywood floor should have been coated in resin but since it’s the budget boat and I was running out of time I slacked off a bit there. The houseboat build we will do that so I never have to mess with the floor again.
Did you use epoxy resin for the 10oz glass for the deck? I am pulling up the carpet (the carpet is in bad shape) in my 04 bayliner this fall and putting eva foam. Bayliner put carpet on marine grade plywood so i want to glass the deck before i put down the amazon eva foam.
Yessir I wanted to epoxy seal the deck before throwing that foam down. I think that helped give a better surface for that foam to stick to rather than bare wood too. It hasn't quite been a year yet so we'll see how it holds up.
The production value on this video is top notch! I must buy boat that isn't rotted!
What a difference, very nice job!!!
It’s getting there. Thanks!

Hopefully that won’t be too bad!

unreal job dude. heck ya
Not many videos on this boat work. Have a Glastron cv 19 jet boat with a big block 460 cu in Ford needs the same stringer & floor work. Great video.
Way better quality work that it had from the factory.

thanks for the vid nice work
Thanks!
I remember the old turbo boat!
Hopefully your answer this question just curious is that just regular plywood because I noticed I think in your string as I seen plugs
It’s exterior rated plywood so it’s built with waterproof adhesive. It’s about as good as you can do before the jump to true marine grade plywood.
Thank you
So you sandwiched ply to get that length?
Yessir that’s how a lot of these stringers get built. In the houseboat we are restoring the main stringer is 40’ long of sandwiched marine plywood.

I really want to see how the EVA foam holds up after a year.
Thanks for the replies man I0
I appreciate it.
the back of that board with no sealer of any kind on is worrying me.
