    Love your channel. I watched this whole “mini series” and really enjoyed it. Just got done working on my older boat and I can tell you right now, I’m nowhere near as patient as you. My neighbors were probably close to calling the cops multiple times listening to me swear up a storm at maximum volume.

      I know the feeling. Hopefully yours holds up so you don’t have to do it again anytime soon!

      We are about to bring it out of winter storage and see what all broke from it just sitting. I’m sure a lot but never know!

    Great series.
    Good tip on the primer tool, on GM inline engines. (Maybe others) However, GM V- engines use a groove in the distributor to cross the oil to the left side. One can be made from an old distributor or purchase a quality purpose made tool. Some Amazon comments mention some cheap ones don’t work.

    • @Motiv8Labs
      @Motiv8Labs  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That’s exactly what a buddies father had, a cut apart distributor to use as an oil priming tool. Never would have known about that if he didn’t show us.

      @@Motiv8Labs I have an 84 VIP my dad bought new. I went with him to Vivian to pick it up from the factory. Most likely going to have to do the same as you to get her seaworthy.

      That’s awesome! It’s been forever since I’ve been on that side of the lake. Sometimes I forget how big the lake is when we are just in a little runabout boat.

    Its not a boat unless it gives you periodic headaches. Thats a pretty lake you have there! Makes me wanna to move to texas.

    • @Motiv8Labs
      @Motiv8Labs  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s true about the headaches. The lakes aren’t too bad and makes the 110 degree weather not as terrible.

      That’s good to know! I called a machine shop closer to me in Fort Worth and they said they wouldn’t be able to work on that marine 4 cyl but I bet this Blaine machine shop would. I still have the old engine so might be worth fixing as a spare.

      @@Motiv8Labsdefinitely worth fixing … New bearings and fit the one rod… it’ll run a long time

      No core needed which was interesting, so still have an old paperweight that I can recycle I suppose.

    Great video, boating is always an adventure! I have the same throttle/g3ar selector on my '77 Sea Ray, any idea where the the throttle only button in the middle could be had from?

    • @Motiv8Labs
      @Motiv8Labs  ปีที่แล้ว

      I ended up buying someone’s used shifter assembly on eBay because the old shifter was falling apart and also missing that button. Luckily the eBay one came with the plastic button. I am sure this one will fall apart soon and I’ll have to figure out a way to 3D print a new one since they are so hard to find now.

    Hey, I enjoy watching this series, its helped me alot since i recently picked up a 1986 glassmaster with a 3.0l. Myh motor recently wanted a window and now i can see into cylinder 3 LOL. I was just wondering if you can help share some info about the flywheel situation. I plan on order one from that same company on ebay. I asked them if they can tell me what parts I need to make it work with my boat but they made it clear they didnt want to help me. They also made it to where i cant even buy it. my current motor is a 3.0l mercruiser with electionic ignition system with a alpha one gen 1 unit. Any help would be much appreciated!

      Sorry just saw this! This boat is kind of a frankenstein mix now. The main thing I learned is if your 3.0 is an older 2 piece rear main seal and you buy any of these newer rebuilt 3.0s that are a one piece rear main seal, then you need to convert to a different flywheel and coupler. THe flywheel goes by a couple part numbers so you can search for 83422871 or 220-810873. Either of those part numbers should come up as the flywheel for a 1990-1995 3.0 liter 12 and 3/4 inch diameter. Then I needed a new coupler which is part number Sierra 18-2172. This is the coupler that shares the same studs as the flywheel uses. It's pretty confusing so not sure if this helps or not. It was a pain to try and figure out.

      @ this helped out a lot!! I appreciate you sharing this info. I was able to use the part number and order all the correct parts. Everything bolted up and I’m getting ready to put the motor back in the boat.
      Thank you!!

    How much $ do you have in the budget boat now?

    • @Motiv8Labs
      @Motiv8Labs  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think we ended up around $7k since we had to buy a new long block engine which is pretty bad. I thought this was going to be a $3k ish kind of build. It’s pretty much a new boat now though so hopefully it lasts for a while.

    Driving at night is 10x more dangerous without radar & lighting, than those little waves were during the day. But that's just me.

    • @Motiv8Labs
      @Motiv8Labs  ปีที่แล้ว

      True night boating is definitely not as safe, it’s the tornados that worry us on our lake more than anything. One hit our marina last spring and one person was killed.
