Dutch was always a manipulative person right from the start but Hosea was always there to put him back in his place. This video made me see that he was just a guy with big ideas who was slowly loosing everything.
@@Cool_Man010 Not Everything, Dutch's ego got the better of him and he couldn't stand to be alone especially when his two 'sons' had left him and all he had was a rat
Honestly if it wasn’t for Micah twisting his mind and turning him against the gang and losing hosea was the final nail in the coffin of the balance Dutch had. Without hosea kind of keeping Dutch in balance it was the end of everything.
Dutch had a choice...trust a person that he knows for 20 years or follow the ideas of a person that knows for some months. Dutch I think you are the coolest character that I ever knew after Arthur...but I can’t forget what you did when you saw Arthur dying in front of you
I really felt like he wanted cry when he saw arthur dying They should've made him drew a tear or sum And they should've had made it t ok were they sometimes mentioned Arthur in rdr1
I agree. I really dislike how people turn into psychologists whenever Dutch says or does literally anything, as if everything he does has a selfish motive. I’ve even seen people call him something like a cult leader. I have no doubt that he actually loved Arthur and appreciated the gang. He definitely had manipulative tendencies all throughout the story of RDR2, but it never would’ve gotten this bad without Micah being in his ear. It’s mentioned how Micah got him excited about the Blackwater heist and pressured him into shooting the girl on the ferry. If anything, Dutch is probably the one who’s most susceptible to psychological manipulation, especially because he’s understandably vulnerable under stress and grief. I’m not saying Dutch is a good guy, but I feel like people make him look like too much of a villain sometimes. Sorry for the rant lol
I think with so many deaths around him especially hosea, he was already losing his sanity and his control. And with Micah twisting his mind around and turning him against everyone in the gang that was the end, that’s why at the end of the prologue in RDR2 Dutch finally kills Micah because I think he finally realized most if not all the tragedy that came across the gang was because of micah
I just wish there was an alternate ending where if you got rid of that debt guy to skip seeing downes or if you skipped valentine entirely you could have Arthur and John alive and maybe even live with each other or near each other in the epilogue. It would be amazing to see John and Arthur putting a thousand holes in Micah

poor dutch being manipulated by micah watching his best friend die infront of him over a stupid plan, having to leave his “son” to die after all those years of raising him and teaching him, building a family of people of different races dying one by one. Micah manipulated Dutch into the world Micah dreamed of, not what dutch dreamed of i could imagine his pain when he realized he has messed everything up, after seeing arthur on his last breaths .
funnly enough i think arthur and dutch are mirrors of each other. (sorry if english gets bad, not a native speaker). Dutch in my opinion is the best written character not just of red dead redemption but of all time how he evolved from a charismatic, true and thoughtful leader to a man he said he would never turn into
2:23 - 2:59 This part will forever tug at my heartstrings, especially dutch talking about all the years they spent together. Sounds exactly like something he'd say to Arthur's grave if he came back
This edit is so good, aahhh! The EMOTIONS you got out of me - incredible!! I personally believe no one factor pushed Dutch towards his demise, but rather everything came together at the wrong time. The law was catching up to them, Micah was manipulating, his longest friend died and he likely had some kind of mental illness that reared its ugly head. All of these things combined sent him into a spiral and he eventually betrayed his family. To me, Dutch is a very tragic character whose story is "good guy gone bad" - some scenes (to me at least) make it very clear he truly cared about the people around him, which makes it even more depressing when he turns his back on BOTH his sons in the end :(
