This week has gotten so sunny and nice for outdoor work and Ive been watching everyone enjoy the sun from the gorgeous view from the big kitchen windows.
Chelsey has returned from her days off and we spent a few hours at Wadhams together walking the dogs. Earl got to wear the GoPro harness and acted as my second camera man. He did such a good job. He is, after all, the BEST BOY!
We've gotten to see some grizzly bears fairly closely which has been so great. A momma and her cub have been hanging out around the cannery bay. If the bears get close enough to the cannery, the dogs alert us and we chase them off with bear bangers. In previous years we have had to shoot a rubber bullet at one that was getting much too comfortable but we have never had any problems with the bears. Unlike the Martens which have been staying out of the kitchen and the Hilton finally.
Christian celebrated his birthday and we all jumped in the ocean to celebrate which is a tradition up here. We finished the night off with our first salmon dinner with champagne and a carrot cake for dessert.
A couple more boats are back from Bella Bella so just a couple more to come. Randy is back at the lodge for the season and it's so great to have him back in the kitchen helping with lunch and dinner prep and clean up!
I have left the lodge for 3 weeks and will be spending some time in the Interior if BC before driving to Barrhead Alberta to be the maid of honour at my childhood friends wedding. I am getting so excited to see my family again also!
Life has been great up here!
Ill have a new video out in a week or 2 showing you my adventures outside the lodge, but don't worry... I'll be back up there soon to spend another 3 months in the Great Bear Rainforest.

BEST SCONES EVER!!!!! My 4 1/2 YO twin granddaughters, Amy and Julie are huge fans of Jenny Adrift and have watched a ton of episodes with great enthusiasm. We were watching you make scones and I asked if they would like to do that. The answer was a resounding yes. So we did. I gloved them up and they kneaded everything together. We used Wyman's Triple Berry (frozen raspberries, blueberries and blackberries) but not the white chocolate. They are the best scones I have ever had -- light and airy and not dry and dense like most scones. The twins and the entire family loved the scones and they were gone in no time at all. The twins and I will be making more. Thanks for your excellent videos and the scones.

Good video, always makes me home sick for the coast, I grew up in Powell River BC and worked all over the coast logging back in the 80's and 90's. miss it every day.

Jenny. Your reality “shows” beat out any alternative TV entertainment choices for us every time. Well produced, directed, presented - a professional presentation. If we want to relax for a hour in front of the TV and theres an episode available we’ll watch you 1st and then turn the tube off, because its very good honest enjoyable educational TV. The owner has created an amazing environment for his staff. He really is a very generous man. We all do work very hard and it can be difficult being away from partners, friends and family for so long but he makes it worth it. Life as an Allard dog is truly amazing. Thanks so much for your comment!!

Helmcken Island although that was just half an hour by boat from where I live in Sayward. I'm flying from Hardy to South Bentick arm on the 3rd. I like fishing lodges too. I was the chef at Nanook lodge last year.

Jenny you have the best job ever. I remember landing in the goose, it seemed for a moment that it was going to be a submarine. Love the Grizzly bears they are a majestic animal. At one time most of those canneries had a water wheel for power, I am wondering if Good Hope Cannery had one and if so is it still operational? Keep the great videos coming, I look forward to them and share them with my friends.
I believe I do have the best job ever! I am so grateful! The goose is so fun to land on the water with! I totally agree with you, I thought we were far too close to being IN the water haha I will find out about the water wheel. As far as I know it’s not still here. Thank you so much for watching!!!

Jenny, you do such a wonderful job on these videos. The background music is perfect, the flow through from scene to scene is great, and the narration…it’s better than perfect! And the little baking segment is awesome! I’m going to give your scone recipe a try. They’ll never be as good as yours but I’ll go for it anyway. You should check out rivers inlet some day!! Duncanby and Legacy lodge are wonderful places to stay and fish. Or just to go chill out in the wilderness. I’m glad you’re enjoying my videos in the meantime!

Talk about an office with a view , or an office with a view. What a birthday celebration , definitely looks like a work place with great moral that's awesome to see. Those are beautiful dogs, I have to dog the doggy cam on my Tucker soon Now that's a thread mill with a view I can see why you open the doors, think I'll try those scones thanks for the recipe. Thank you so much! The view from the kitchen is very impressive! Same as the view from the treadmill or any other window you look out at. We love having the dogs up here! The staff are incredibly caring and we all support one another through bad days and good. It’s like a family.

Just a very peaceful job. I know that when the guest come up, it's probably a bit tough. I'm sure that there is the "difficult" guest, to try to please. I will definetley give the scones a shot. We make Sour Dough bread every week. Your doing an awesome job Jenny. Enjoy your time off

I can definitely say that we don’t have any difficult guests but some want more of our time than others. Time is not always easy to give when there’s so much to do. But they are all wonderful people.

Pretty frigging cool! Doggies are the best! Chef all my life, lots of bad decisions, but still great! Turned downed a couple Alaska opportunities, watching this makes me reconsider, but not at 64!! Chelsea, wears a round yellow disk around her neck Is that for the dogs? Tracker?
I do make butter tarts but only with pecans! Haha I’m not a fan of raisins… sorry haha
The yellow disk helps with training the dogs. Hank is the youngest and usually needs the most help. It controls a vibrating collar and also makes sounds that the dogs respond to. It’s very important to have the dogs listen to commands when we are walking around Wadhams with the possibility of grizzly bears.

Hello Jenny. I have a Grizzly Bear question is that's OK? I've seen Grizzly bears with tapeworms in the Babine River Canyon. They look like white flagging tape caught in huckleberry bushes but they are tapeworms being dragged behind grizzly bears and getting caught in the brush. This is happens between late July and early September. It might come from the salmon... Maybe some of your colleagues have seen this? Do you ever see this with the Mid-Coast Grizzly Bears? PS: Time on the Coast definitely changes a person and in my mind it adds character. That's a value you have plenty of! Maple Leaf Up

Hi! I tried your scone recipe today and just winged it on the amount of fruit and chocolate...mine really spread out and took about 16 minutes to bake. Was it too much fruit, you think? They are really, really yummy, though! Thanks for the recipe!

I count my blessings everyday!im glad you enjoy my videos. A friend of mine put me in touch with Ted Walkus and at the time they were looking for new kitchen staff. I began as the sous chef and the following year I was hired back as the chef.

Hi! Wadhams is also an old cannery site. It was bigger than Good Hope Cannery. I’m not sure exactly when the cabins were built but they’ve been empty and pretty much unused for over a decade. The owner of good hope also owns the Wadhams property and besides for a few beach bbqs, it’s used only for dog walks.

Beautiful country, gorgeous scenery. Are the cabins at the beach open for visitors or rentals
Hi! Thanks so much for watching! The cabin at Wadhams are private and not in use. We clean them every summer and sometimes we use one for a dinner for guests.
I love your videos. ❤ I’m just wondering how they make enough money to keep the resort open? It must be very expensive to run it even just during the spring/summer seasons.
The lodge doesn’t make money. It’s a huge expense every year for Tony. He keeps it running because he loves it. The only guests we have are invited up by him or his sons.
Also can a person book a stay there. Not for fishing, but just to stay and enjoy the surroundings for a weekend?
The only guests that join us up here are personally invited up by the owner and his sons. I’m glad you’re enjoying the videos!

Hi Jenny what is the length of the season that you are actually at the lodge for.
I started this year April 8th, I am taking my 3 weeks off now then I’ll leave near the end of September. Not all staff have that long of a season. Some are here for only 3-4 months.

Is the Wadham property part of Goodhope Cannery, or owned by the same people? I see the staff go there often.
Yes it is owned by the same man who owns good Hope cannery. We take the dogs there daily for their walks.

It’s around 10 Celsius or 50 Fahrenheit. Not as cold as it was when we jumped in for Ted’s birthday in April. But always chilly.

Great question! You can see all the places that logging took place and the lines of trees usually shows where the roads were.
