Raw Master False. In the 2018-2019 flu season, flu killed around 34,200 people in the US according to the CDC. The CDC estimates that covid 19 has killed more than double that. Keep in mind that the flu had a whole year to reach 34,200 people, whereas covid 19 only just started ramping up earlier this year, around March, in the US. So you decide which one is more deadly: 34,200 deaths in the US over the course of a year, or around 73,639 deaths in the US over the course of 3 months. Maybe when a vaccine comes out, the number of deaths will be about the same, but that will take time.
It is. The only reason I got tested was because my mom is friends with my primary doctor and was able to get her to approve testing even though I didn’t REALLY need it. Can’t imagine how difficult it is who doesn’t have connections

In theory, yes, but that's not possible if you don't have enough tests, which was the case early on. If you don't have enough tests then you need to use them most effectively. Unfortunately, it seems that that wasn't really done either. In the case of the guy who had significant COVID-like symptoms, assuming he has it is sound from the perspective that if he is isolated then he can't infect anyone anyway. Where it's not so sound is that, if he has something else, that's not going to be detected or treated.

The virus is inside of the test.
Everyone should qualify for a test, no matter who they are. Denying people for testing completely diminishes the point of testing people in the first place.
I agree. There's been a massive spread of the virus where my father works, because half of the people (who had no symptoms) were denied testing.
the ''point'' is to keep the numbers as low as possible - thereby creating a false impression..it's all about appearance: how things LOOK, as opposed to how they really are........
And send China the bill
People have to be denied tests, we don't have enough.

I'm afraid, come winter, those with the seasonal flu will be quarantined as possible CV-19 patients, *until proven otherwise*. ALL should at least prepare for this possibility ( whether or not you believe how dangerous cv-19 is) i.e. saving$ - if within your means.
And yes, you should "stay home" even with the seasonal flu, but as we've witnessed, staying in bed w/the flu drinking chicken soup an OJ and shutting yourself in for weeks during cv-19 are dramatically different, and rightfully so...so we've been told.
Either way prepare because the gov. ( State or Federal) may not be equipped and Should not be your life line if this continues or "peaks" again during flu season.
Just my opinion.
Hopefully we have functioning remedies or potentially a vaccine by then. The Oxford vaccine has been processing very well in its human trials so far and might be ready for distribution by September.

This is EXACTLY what i've been saying! Early on in the outbreak they needed to prioritise testing for those who have the least symptoms and assume those who have the highest symptoms have Covid-19 and work on isolating their contacts and you test for differential diagnosis to rule out something that is treatable.

Luxembourg is currently doing both solutions. Every person living in the country or cross border worker received a code (many received plenty, depending on profession) to go get tested for free. Every positive case has to give information about every contact they've had in the 3 days prior to having the result. Besides Random Testing and Contact Tracing I see a third option: Test possible spreaders (business travellers, waiters, nurses etc.) on a regular basis.
Monday2203 So you’re saying those who are most likely to be outside with the general public? That’s not a bad thought to be honest with you.
Brian OSullivan Being outside is not the point and not important for spreading. The daily number of people you interact with and the distance you "bridge" via travel are more important. You should test those, who are likely to carry the virus from one family or community to another.
