- Upwork recently started charging connects for job invites. Why are they doing this and what can you do to still find success on Upwork and be able to afford it?

I just received an invitation that I was about to answer to. Then I read 22 connects. It’s ridiculous
Upwork has really crossed the line with this one
Worst thing is they say Congratulations! 🎉😂😢
Upwork is just playing with the freelancer. But be careful, it's the freelancer that generates revenue for Upwork, not the client.
Same! I'm pretty upset. I have been with the platform since 2016, and this is just ludicrous!
They still get money from the client and freelancers. I do not understand why they are punishing those of us who have the good reviews and high ratings by charging freelancers even more. I don't want to have to start over with a new platform after all these years. I worked hard for my 100% rating. It's not fair. They're getting worse and worse.
I just started on upwork past week and I was rudely surprised I have to pay to apply for a job and it doesn’t even say if I get any of those connects back if I don’t get chosen for the job either it’s crazy!
It's time for alternates of upwork... upwork is simply give them money 😂😂😂
It's really hard for a beginner like me, at the moment when i was on a good pace this shit happens. it's so disappointing
Luckily my main income comes from outside Upwork now. I still have 2 or 3 clients left on Upwork and I'm just going to keep them and not apply anymore.
I can't agree more with you!
Clients can send up to 30 invitation for FREE!! and they’re not even professional in most cases
Upwork is the worst lately
They lost it.
Yeah it’s annoying but as long as Upwork is profitable it’s still worth it. I need to spend $150 in connects to land a $1000 client . So it’s still worth it ,at least with my numbers
Not everyone can afford to pay money on a platform to find a job, I’m an example of that. I had about $50 in my bank and I’ve used up $30 already to get a job and I’ve not landed one, how do you think I can survive on the platform like that? Some of us come from third world countries, so that $50 doesn’t seem like much to people in the western countries but that’s money some people even survive on for weeks and some even a month. But by the end of the day Upwork can still make a lot of money off those commissions, they’re greedy!
lmao just give it up upwork is a bad platform, it's better to get ur own ads than to apply in that trash patform
Very frustrating move from UpWork, however, you have to view the bright side of it regardless what can we do? Less competition and the connect prices aren’t even that bad it is what it is.
Sometimes you get invited by a client, and no other freelancers are invited. So, why do we need to pay? It's ridiculous
Yes but what if you get 10-20 invites, you spend money accepting them all and got rejected from them all? Then its not profitable anymore.
I've a question if i decline the invites will I get fewer invites as they will charge Connect if I get the irreverent invite?
Is not it for clients only who posts job? They are so stupid ! Upgrade membership using credit cards! buy connects -cards! what about those unfortunate who has no earning/review on the platform ? Let alone a free trial of membership they increased charge for it!
I think it's very simple: Upwork is greedy.
They need to just implement a monthly or yearly fee for both parties, client and freelancer and stop with this nickel and diming the very people keeping them in business. And they need to do something on the client side as well because there are still too many dirt bag clients who just want to do business outside the platform which wastes freelancers time and money. Also get rid of the payment verified/unverified category for clients. You either have the means to pay for the job or you don't get to post your job.
Totally agree! Make it so every freelancer pays $15/month and every client pays a reasonable monthly fee that's it, free to apply to jobs
I spent 18 connects, answered the invite very fast, and the client hired another person, lol
nice ad
Take a look at their stock price, this may provide some insight as to why they are doing this.
False. Their stock price is going down because of trashy mistakes like this. I only started with Upwork recently (within a month or two) and I'm already getting tired of it. The reason their stock price (-1.13% at the time of writing this) is going down is greed. Like I said in my previous post to the channel directly, connects=$, $= upwork gets richer off a concept that doesn't equate to real value. Imagine if I had to buy something like connects to apply to a real job. Like I have to pay to apply. Same concept. It's ridiculous.
This is ridiculous, upwork has been getting worse and worse and so desperate
is straight up impossible for newcomers, and even people with long experience in the platform, is not worth it
I hope people start pulling their clients away from the platform
Specially when there are so, so many trash posts for insultingly low paying works in the platform, why is that not moderated?
or like when people post an hourly position just to change it during negotiation
what about those connects and that wasted time? is so one sided
