I really enjoyed this tutorial on housing and feeding the Theraphosas. Makes you appreciate that for the serious enthusiast the hobby is a never-ending school on what's best for your animals. Loved the tip about "fattening up" the insects before serving them up. Your success proves that "you are what you eat".
13:50 This boy is funny ---- don't wanna let go the food while turning up his butt to ask you back off! Mine are mostly nervous upon sudden vibration, but as long as moving them gently with a brush they're well-behaved. To me, the _T. apophysis_ is the most gorgeous among the three "bird-eaters", but of course the _T. blondi_ is the classic one.
Thank you for keeping me company in the ER tonight. Lovely to see this group of sturmis again. They look well. Thank you Dave and Camera Lady for the quality video you produce!
I think that's brilliant that even the spiders food, lotus, crickets etc are in turn fed, good quality food. You truly are a perfectionist. My nan used to say, if your going to do something, wether it be a job or a hobby, you do it properly and well or don't bother at all !
They do have a subtle beauty to them for sure. Definitely much more than just "Big Brown Spiders". Interesting to see that even those kept drier do just as well as the ones kept on more moist sub. You're 100% right that internal hydration is what matters the most during the molts. Stay safe and thanks for sharing :)
Yes makes me wonder about some of the issues people have about them , I have a T blondi thats kept practically dry all the time and it moults perfectly every time she is adult now and never had any issues with her its been interesting experimenting with them 👍

Hello Dave and Camera Lady. We have survived our vacation and are back in the 108 F degree weather in Texas. 🥵🥵 It is good to be home to our happy new house 🏡. Now we have to unpack. 😬. You know how much I love the big tarantulas and adding feeding in on top makes this about my favorite kind of video. I would love to have a check up on the biggest that you have. 😊. Such interesting husbandry. Do you think there is a reason behind the one female refusing food. Is she due to moult? Just curious. Well, thank you for the wonderful video. Excellent footage Camera Lady! You guys take care and let us know how the move is coming. Sending supportive and cheerful vibes for the move. Stay safe and take care of each other. See you soon. ♥️♥️💛💛🖤🖤
AWESOME video Dave I love the Goliaths just find them Fascinating the size is impressive I have an Apophysis at the moment thats only palm sized but will soon grow hope its female too my target is to get all the Therophosa species
Hi Dave I really enjoyed this video. Very good information. So the food determine how often they molt. And the room temp is better for them, and slows down their growth. So the molts determine what sex they are. Like the knee cap pattern. The large one was not hungry, but the rest of them were ready to eat.❤🕷🕸Cindy

Hi Dave. Been watching your vids and I find them really very helpful too. There's this question that I've had in my mind for quite a while. Have you had any experience on any your Ts having a wet moult or their legs were deformed after molting? My P. Metallica more than 2 months ago molted with 1 of its leg curved. Recently it molted again a week or so and now 2 of its legs are curved. What do you think happened here?
This normally happens becouse they have dried out in a bad position too cramped generally but not always ? Wet moults are luckily quit uncommon and not much id known as to why it happens I have only he'd two that I can remember im my collection and both I had for a long time so was completely baffled to understand why ?
@@daveslittlebeasties Thanks for answering my question Dave. It literally bugs me that fossorials can moult without having any defects whatsoever underneath the substrate within that cramped space in there. And my juvenile P. Metallica has this somewhat enough space and it still happened. More power to your channel and keep them informative videos coming. 👍
Now I’m worried, I’ve been using straight tap water to mist , the waterbowls but I should fill up cup n let it sit out for 24 hours, I’ve gotten mixed answers to water concerns

So had her as a sling, got her last October....with this moly she hasn't eaten yet and get abdomen is small...should I feed her something the size of her abdomen then? This is the first time she has not eaten after a molt, immediately after just about....its been 4 days I believe....need a little advice. Thx
Wouldn’t worry about it. Sometimes they will take up to a month to recover from a molt. Especially the larger they get the longer it takes for them to recover from a molt. Hope that helps.
Depending on size of spider I would not offer food until its starting to move around its enclosure , check you have all your parameters in place sometimes its easy to forget something ❤
Dave, I enjoy watch you videos and have learned so much. I had a question about how to get Western Wolf spider slings out from the mother once the are no longer on her back without upsetting the mother? Thank you in advance and look forward to further videos.
So roaches I’ve got on dried kibble, oats and slices of different fruit, crickets I use mixed greens, fish flakes and the cricket quencher gel for water needs, that sound ok?
Hi dave Jane woolford here asking I have 2 curly hair spiders 🕷 who will not eat 1 has molted out and the other one has not as yet please could I have some advice thanks great show guys
So how come a spider can sometimes repair its legs that are damaged but they don't get there hairs back? Is there any explanation on that and sorry if my facts are wrong. I don't own spiders or Insects of any kind just like to learn about things that peak my interest.
It's all regenerated during the molt cycle. Legs regrow in the Coxa curled up like a little spring until they molt and the new leg is released. The hairs regrow on the new abdominal skin so with each molt they will get a fresh set of urticating hairs to use.
It seems to me that the carapace on that first female that you showed us is extremely large, much more so than the others. Is that just a trick of the camera? Is this usual for this species?

Do they have a mouth Dave 😮 Or do the fangs count as sooking all the roach up, i don't see a mouth..... Ps, ive noticec on this male, it looks like ten legs 🕷 🦵 😳 .... He will still live for another 2 years plus 👍

Theraphosa always look strange to me because they have this huge carapace and a tiny little abdomen 😂 it looks strange!
Chlorine doesn’t gas off from water as it’s too heavy. Chloromine will after 24 hours
Its always better to allow the water to stand to release any chemicals within it 👍
Do they have a mouth Dave 😮
Or do the fangs count as sooking all the roach up, i don't see a mouth.....
Ps, ive noticec on this male, it looks like ten legs 🕷 🦵 😳 ....
Thus, the shorter "looking legs" at the front - on the far away side or next side to the fangs - are actually the "pedi palps" 😮😅
So that's what that is !! That's the answer to a question from a previous video......
I'm no real 🤷🏻♀️😲🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
Brilliant stuff, Dave 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 camera 📷 lady, gaun yersel 😉😁 you're so brave too ❤
They have a sucking stomach behind the fangs 👍
