Some of my favorite parts of the outlander story is the relationship Jamie has with his children, portrayed beautifully by Sam. The depth of the storyline in the books and in the TV series is so beautifully told by the writers and actors.
The best part is just relationship with all of his sons., starting with Ian and Fergus, then the blip with Roger and Brianna, to the still unresolved issue with William.
For those saying that William is Brianna’s only sibling and that they are Jamie’s only (living) children, I want to remind you that Fergus is Brianna and William’s actual brother too, through adoption, but their brother nonetheless. Jamie and Claire have always considered Fergus their son and they formally adopted him, so he is as much Brianna’s big brother as her half-brother young William. This doesn’t take away from this special moment of Brianna learning about her little brother that she might be able to find in a book in her time, but I wanted to remind everyone they have another sibling too.
Well, the point of this scene was when Jamie said, "I wanted you to ken there is more of your blood in this world than me and your mother." So they're strictly talking about blood relations here.
But yes, it has been very firmly established in this show that adoptive parent/child bonds are just as strong as if not stronger than blood relation bonds. Claire was raised by her uncle. Roger was raised by his great uncle. Brianna was raised by Frank. Ian and Fergus are sons to Jamie. Marsali and Joan are daughters. Claire considered Roger family even before Brianna did. And there's even a scene in this episode that makes it clear that Brianna considers Fergus and Marsali to be her siblings. But practically William is more Lord John's son than Jamie's, even though Lord John is just his uncle by marriage, so I think it's a stretch to say William is a sibling to Fergus or Marsali, but he does share blood with Brianna as a half-sibling and with Ian as a cousin.
So taking into account everyone that they love as their own children, not just blood, Jamie and Claire have 8 kids. Fergus, Faith, Brianna, William, Marsali, Joan, Roger, and Ian. Granted, Claire doesn't have much of a bond with William or Joan, but the fact that Jamie does is enough for her to at least have a tenderness for them. And yes, I still count Faith even though she's dead.
I really wanna see grown up william in the show. I know a lot of people dont like him in the books but im loving his journey, he is becoming a better person and coming to grips with his identity and values, and im finding that very interesting, even if he is a dipshit sometimes.
Oh, I like poor William. He's thrown into such a quandry. He's handsome (how could he not be with Jamie as a father), young, strong, and honorable. They can't leave him out of future shows because he becomes an important underlying storyline.
I like how young Ian (in Indian persona) comes across William by accident and knows instantly who he must be because he looks just like Jamie and Brianna (except the hair is chestnut instead of red),😁but goes along pretending he doesn't know, yet pops up all the time to help him (or needing his help).

Yes I much more enjoy Brianna with her dad scenes (both Jamie and Frank) over her and Roger. To me, I don’t see much chemistry between them but you can see the sincere and tender caring between her, Frank, and Jamie.

Sophie's best scenes are with Sam. I love this scene one of my favorites as is the scene when they first meet! So well acted! It was perfect!
Why did jamie say it has been their choice? He was forced/blackmailed to. He never told that anybody.
He said it was her choice. Not theirs.

He said our choice even though yes she blackmailed him, he made a choice to do it cause he didn't want to go back to prison and mainly for the safety of his family cause she knew where his home was so that is why he said it was our choice

Yes the Jamie and Bree scenes are the best. They deleted one from season 5 I think. The producers dont understand that we fans want longer episodes not shorter.

I was truly shocked and feel it is a real mistake to make Claire become addicted to ether in the 1st episode of Season 6. She is simply not that self-destructive and it seems like a real wrong turn for the story, I'm sorry Gabalon felt the need to do this.
I agree she has been through so much in her life. She is strong. This makes her seem weak. Ppl love her because she is so strong and can overcome anything plus her family needs her
Diana Gabaldon, the book author, has nothing to do with how the shows are written. She's made this clear - the producers will run things by her and ask her opinion, she has no control over their final decisions. But I agree, I don't care for the ether story line. Claire is reckless, but she was careful in her surgery and knew the dangers of ether being so flammable. Taking it alone and leaving lit candles - not something she would do .Drinking herself into a stupor is more Claire-like.
Let the show do as they please.

It was because they didn't truly want to leave. Claire was subconsciously trying to escape her life so she was able to travel.
This was the lead up to that time. As a spoiler, the second time they try it works. This first time they concentrated on going home, but were still thinking of the Ridge as home, so that's where they went!
So are they home in their own time yet?

I don't understand why they leave
Haven't seen the latest episodes. But in the novels Brianna & Roger's 2nd child is a daughter w a heart murmur. They return to the future to get her medical care.
I think the question is referring to the first time they left and it was because they just felt like they needed to go back to their time especially after Roger's ordeal and with the war. They discussed it with Claire and Jamie and it was pretty much decided that they WOULD BE SAFER IN THEIR own time with all of the wars coming.
When they got to leave, it didn't work because they were thinking of home but not the home they left in the future but the home there they have become a part of on the ridge.

@Nikki Horn : Claire can hear the stones hence Brianna can hear them because she's her biological daughter (and Jamie's of course), Jamie CANNOT hear the stones hence William cannot hear them, because he's biological son !! .
Doubtful--he's not a biological relation to Claire since he's only from Jamie's side of the family and Jamie can't hear the stones.
Doubtful.....Not sure if it's an inherited trait or not....

So sad that this very meh scene was made instead of the 1000000x better was she finds out at the end of book 6. I cannt stress how sad and degrading to a show it is when a show based on a book decides replace what happens which a scene that is significantly less good or powerful. A detrayal even. Just for a quick scene that really doesn't stand out of matter that much, compared to something mattering significantly more if done properly
Diana Gabaldon wrote this scene and this episode. Yes it differs from how Brianna finds out in the books but in the books Brianna sees William and notices that he is a younger version of Jamie. Finding a young actor who looks a great deal like Sam to be a younger version of Jamie/Sam is a tall order. IMO the actor cast as young adult William does not look at all like Sam plus he is 3 inches shorter.
@@sulleys1929 i know it was written by her, that however, doesnt mean she made the decision. she likely was told to include that, and salvaged it the best she could. ultimetly the showrunners make such decisions on the show. Dianna writes things for a reason, so i doubt she would have changed it if she could
For me, Jamie and Claire being there for Jemmy's birth was such an important bonding scene to skip.

She threatened his family if he did no go through with it. It was watered down in the show. She had a letter from his sister discussing giving aid to Jacobites, enemies of the crown. He and his whole family could have been executed and the family estate taken away. He told her to pick a time she wouldn't get with child. Obviously he was wrong about the timing OR she didn't care. She only had 3 days before the wedding.

Because of Roger's experience with the war, and the fact that more wars are coming, no antibiotics to fight a simple infectious scratch, just the things that were not available in that time Era.

I own a house like this. My awesome came in from the country and screamed at my husband about taking Velvet dress and lawn dresses overseas. It us about to change hands to me. My concern is a truck. My country pays for it but I don't know if they take over the payment of the lease like the taxes because I have a lease I could get. Git my cops a fleet and they are making them now, the cars. There's a salary and it has something to do with doing farming in the house. I just don't know if it is just for yhe summer or mine because my uncle had a salary and retired from young life. These are our manors or estates. Earned my country back lost a husband in the next couple of days. Don't know what to think. Can't talk to a band that came for me with a cop making me go inside a building l. Attested by your country as the government head feels like this. This endless pain where you transfer to another country or you to your Lans. It feels like an endless night.
