I feel like everyone is misunderstanding that Claire is not making him feel guilty about this. He's making himself feel guilty, his track record is making himself feel bad for it. The only one she was upset about was Laoghaire because he didn't want to tell her about it and she tried to have her burned as a witch. Claire only wants honesty from him and he struggles with that because of his shame not hers.

I think a lot of the teeth-gnashing about it comes from people who are, really, jealous that the adulterers might be enjoying life more than they are. And this habit about decrying the sins of others: it's a petty and mean thing to find fault with others, and dwell on it. In my experience, the most histrionic people crying out for the punishing of sinners are very often guilty of the very same sin themselves. Claire’s “Aww come here, lil fellow” haircut needs to grow back soon. It’s starting to make me giggle. I hope she doesn’t decide to rock it indefinitely like Cersei on GOT.
Claire wasnt being judgy because of that woman, it's because this is happening when he has been accused of sleeping with Malva and for a second there she thinks he's going to confess.
Nobody expected it of him, but himself. That's why on her first day back Claire keeps hint asking if he has "other ties" and is totally un-shocked to hear he has a son. Her only hope is that he still loves her. His sister and everyone else keeps trying to toss other women at him after he starts getting over the first grief, but then they think Claire is dead. He believes, hopes, she's still alive so taking up with another woman would be unfaithfulness. It took 18 yrs. before he gave in that Claire was not coming back and he took Leerie, and that was because he wanted the children to be his. He confessed this because he intended that Claire be clear and absolute that he wouldn't lie to her about it, even if he could get away with it.
THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT I THOUGHT! This was completely unnecessary and over the top, like really Jamie? You didn't do anything wrong, stop making a big deal for drama. 😒
I think what hurt the most was that he didn’t own up to it as soon as they reunited. She kept asking if he was tied to anyone/family. He talked about the son that’s it.
He confessed because he felt guilty over it, and because he could tell Claire still felt he was keeping something from her. He wanted her to know that it wasn’t Melva. Ultimately, I think he told her so they both could have peace of mind.
I don't want him to be sorry that happened. He was so destroyed over loosing Claire and he'd lived alone in that grimy cave for eight years. All they did was share some human comfort, and he needed that. So did she. Whether he told Claire to prove to her he'd never lie to her, or just kept it in his private book of memories, he didn't need to be sorry for it in the least. Claire didn't need proof. He'd always casually blurted out the truth to her, from day one.
What I honestly don't get is how come we never saw a scene where Claire explains she did willing try to sleep with Frank again in the future even if it didn't actually properly happen? Like to me - that deserves a mention.
I don't know why he felt he should confess this as if it were something he did wrong. She left, she went back to Frank (as he told her she should do). He didn't just decide to do it right after she left. He had no reason to believe she would come back so it wouldn't have been considered being unfaithful. Not really sure why this scene was necessary. In the book, sure, but it just took up a few mins of screentime for a confession that really shouldn't have been a confession. Now if it were told in a normal conversation it would've been okay but I kinda feel like this was just for dramatic effect because the way he opened with his statement made it seem like it was going to be something detrimental to their relationship.
She wasn’t angry about this. She was upset because Malva had just accused him of being the father of her baby and then he said he has a confession to make and she was afraid he was going to tell her he has indeed slept with Malva
So, all of his cards are on the table, even the least significant one. Now... at what point is he finally gonna learn that Frank Randall was a straight up doppelganger of Black Jack Randall? I figured that was the reason they established that Brianna can accurately capture a likeness. That at some point she was gonna innocently draw a portrait of Frank and Jamie would happen to see it and it would finally all come out. But then that never happened. Is that Chekhov's gun just gonna hang there on the wall forever?
I understand that in season 3 Jamie tells her about his son and she understood that and it never really seemed to bother her. Yet they bring this situation up like it would a bigger deal to her, and yes they made it seem like it was. Even though he never loved either women. So I'm not sure why bring it up, claire did seem to get over it though and understood him after he explained himself. I honestly think she was just stressed that season and well something just pushed her over and the show wanted more tension. Still love the scene though, just not sure why they made it like that.
No, this is the time they had this conversation. It's not in Voyager. Also, he didn't tell her about William until after they saw LJG in Jamaica.
