Saying "Spendy" is a sign of a true native Pacific Northwesterner! Got to love when fellow outdoorsman share their knowledge rather than being so secretive about it haha.
@@mauricebrown9094 I can't say I have had the same experience yet, nor had heard of anyone who could say they had until now. Interesting. It's a term originally from Chinook Jargon, which they've verified multiple times. So it is a true to its roots PNW term. I have noticed however some midwesterners are really starting to use some phrases of ours here alongside Spendy. The most notable one is Rig, used for any kind of vehicle. They use it a hell of a lot there now, but it is another they've verified multiple times comes from Chinook Jargon as well. So it is rather awesome to hear it move around in who picks up their use. I speculate the reason for the midwest's recent picking up of it is all the Oregonians that have moved there over the last 10-15 years, as many Oregonians chose to move to those states from here following the mass influx of Californians to the state. Illinois is the state that was moved to the most over the last 8 years by Oregonians.
The Big Hammer swimbait is always in my arsenal! I love those things, I’d eat it if I was a rockfish haha. Funny how baits work that way. I had never used them before, bought a couple colors, went out and caught a bunch of fish, then always made sure to have some on me
Love your videos! Im chomping at the bit to get back out to the jettty. What length rod do you like to use on the jetty? Im getting a new casting rod but can’t decide between the med. 9’ 6” or the heavy 10’ 6”
Glad to be of any help.. I’m sure plenty of people know about these baits but to see someone catching big fish in the same waters they fish usually spawns confidence and confidence goes a long way in fishing
still trying to catch that first rockfish off the jetty but appreciate all the advice and experience you share! If you ever are looking for content suggestions, I would really appreciate any extra guidance you have on casting and retrieving to avoid snags as well as how you choose what is the best weight jig head to use for the conditions Thanks!
Enjoy watching your videos Nick. Also have purchased numerous lures from you as well. When can we start fishing for silvers and nooks on Sandy and Ckackamas? Hope to run into you one of these days.
That green pumpkin color works the same for me here in WA. I think the fish just wack it cuz they don’t know what it is especially if you’re jigging it
If like to know more about the rod you use. Many of us will be using our salmon or steelhead rods and I am curious what gives you the confidence to just lift the fish up like that. Thank you
I used my salmon and steelhead rods for the longest time before purchasing a rod more suited for this types of fishing. You wouldn’t see me flipping big fish with a salmon/steelhead rod, that thing would have broke on the first fish. I’m using an Okuma Rockaway Rod 12ft Medium, it’s made for fishing the coast. I think the confidence comes with experience. I’ve caught all different kinds of fish over time and have a good idea of what my rods can and cannot handle. I’m surprised to have not broke this rod with how many big fish I’ve lifted lately.. shows me it’s a quality rod.. they make that rod in a 10ft and 11ft as well. Your salmon and steelhead rod will be able to handle most of what’s usually caught around here..
You couldn’t use a better marketing tactic for the swim shad. lol I decided to order a pack to try them out. I also grabbed one of the 9”/ 2.75oz. sized ones. Have you tried one of those things yet? I’m thinking I might need a small semi-buoyant float to keep it off the bottom or it’ll be lost on the first cast.
Hahaha right... just wait, I still have a bunch of videos from late April, if this doesn’t give storm a boost in sales then I don’t know what would lol. They ARE a great bait, I haven’t tried the 9” but now I’m gonna have to! I’m sure it’s help with the lingcod bite too
After watching your video of you catching that monster Rock fish, I had the wife order some of the bunkers. I can’t wait to get out and use them. They should sponsor you. After that video, everyone who watches it is going to start buying them 😂
That clip came from a day in late April, I ended up catching 15 big black rockfish that day, 14 of them will be on the video that comes out soon. All were caught on a single 5” storm wildeye swim Shad. If storm doesn’t want to sponsor me after that lol... I agree with you though, I’m sure after some of these videos you will see a lot more of these baits as part of most anglers’ arsenal.. good luck! Let me know how they do
Honestly I’m not sure if it helps, but I don’t think it hurts the bite. I use Smelly Jelly (more of an oil than jelly) I swap between herring (blue bottle) and anchovy (yellow bottle). I smoke so I’m usually using scent to cover my own smell, not so much for enticing the fish. Try that out and see if it makes any difference and let me know. I picked mine up at binary since it’s so close but I’m guessing most scent brands would be just fine. I didn’t pick this brand for any specific reason other than it’s scent
90% of my big fish this season have been on swimbaits.. I’m a huge fan of doing a Texas rig with soft baits especially those rage swimmers and Keitech baits. There is a video coming up that covers that setup.
Hey nick I have a question I got a bunch of muscles without trying them I didn't like then to much I don't want them to go to waste how could I use those for bait would they work out there on the jetty ?
@@jamestaylor7768 the best way to bait up with mussels is to take their meat, and put it skin/membrane first over the hook 3-4 times. It's the most common way to bait it up with them you'll see used.
Getting good swim baits and jigs isnt my problem, finding locations like where your fishing is , any suggestion on how to come up on fishing spots, damn I don't know any sopts at all. Nice fish, I'm jealous.
It usually depends on what rod and reel i'm using on the given day but also depends on location, but.... my preferred setup is 50lb braid and 20-25lb fluorocarbon leader, but if i'm fishing from the rocks or a jetty where i can actually get to the water and the fish then i go with 30lb braid and 20lb fluorocarbon.
Definitely not... it’s probably even better for rockfish. The M is in my opinion more for bridging the gap between surf/jetty/rockfish. I didn’t expect the M to hold up so well to flipping fish.. I’m curious as to how much of that sensitivity goes away with the MH & H. Most of my fish gave a slight tap that I could feel way before I had any action going on
Honestly I think it depends on location and a ton of other factors. But I prefer high tide. I snag too much during low tide lol, and I think more fish come in with the tide as opposed to fish sticking around when the tide is going out. High tide = best chances anywhere along a jetty while the fish roam freely So I prefer the last 1hr or so before high tide into the hour after the tide change.. so many factors to consider 🤯
Awesome page man! I’m a fellow veteran in Olympia, wa and have been following your page for over a year now. I’m a huge fan of your tutorials! I’ve bought all of your recommended keitech swim baits and would love to drive down to the Oregon coast to try and get on some monster black rock fish. I’m wondering if you could help share with me on where you go to land these big ones? Also wondering if you’d like to go fishing on the coast together? For so info on myself you can find the majority of my fishing content on Instagram at @outdoors_ready. Again, thank you for all of these videos.

I noticed in my 12 yrs living on the Oregon Coast that most Americans no matter where they were from used that " Spendy " word a lot.

That’s awesome! Congrats. I’m always hoping something I say or do works for someone else
those are the biggest blacks ive seen pulled from shore!! great content !!!!!!
That big hammer swim bait is my favorite. I actually bought it because they were on clearance and now it's my go to if available.

Sheesh! Those are all quality rockfish! Awesome work! Love all those baits. Keitechs have treated me well along with the big hammers.
What's the best weight for a grub/swimbait? Loving the vids you've taught me so much!
And what color is best for the strike king?
great video and thanks for the links. headed out to the jetty soon to hopefully get this skunk off. thanks for all your help!
Glad to help! Good luck with the 🦨 it’s bound to wear off at some point, just keep trying and keep learning
Great information! Thanks for sharing.

That Keitech is my favorite largemouth bass lure!
Keitech makes great baits! All of the swimbaits shown have been killers for largemouth for me in the past

Anytime! I never really go above an 1 1/2oz but usually I’m fishing 3/4-1oz.. really depends on what the wind and tide are doing

Concerning $ and break offs, what about rigging texas rig and pegging the hook? Cheaper, better quality hooks, less break offs maybe?
