    Dang what a solid video. New Subscriber here. Never got into a Ling before.
    Definitely want to try this big swim bait fishing. That’s pretty cool using the Zero Hudd for deep water.
    So much good intel in the video and from the viewers and comments.
    Just started making these giant swim baits and jig heads. Without this video I would have continued on making the wrong colors.
    Dope video brotha 👍🏻💪🏻🤙🏻

    Everything looks good, and you-re right about your staff. In your private boat. In a party boat, especially on a bog swell day one has to use big weights to get down. Yours will be all over the place and knowing from my experience your line will be cut quick. You tangle with my line once, twice, and I'll let you know. 3rd time I'll cut it. As I said I used this kind of baits in my own boat, in a charter as I said will be more challenging.

    Swimbait or jigs only for me. And the 4 that works for me are the xmas color, root beer color with red belly, and Mackerel if there’s any bait in the water. If they’re spawning in October you can throw a table spoon there and they’ll hit it.

    Help me understand what size jig heads to use for swim baits. If im fishing 200 plus feet in the bay what do you suggest? should I use 8 ounce or 14.5? I like the cool bait underspin but not following why you use the 8 oz with large swells. Do you like fishing off the back of the boat. Im trying to understand what depth do you use the lighter D&M custom jigs? Is that when you are in the bay fishing 100 foot or less?

    • @bjzfishing
      @bjzfishing  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Use the lightest weight you can get away with. I fish open charter boats mainly, so too light of a weight and you will tangle everyone else. Depth doesn't matter as much. 6oz is my go to. The slower the fall in the final 15feet, the more lingcod bites you will get

    • @bjzfishing

    do you ever throw flat fall jigs or spoons? if so what color?

    • @bjzfishing
      @bjzfishing  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Used to, but swimbaits outperform. However slow-pitch jigs I've done really well on in recent years, tend to catch bigger lings (mackeral color)

    • @w1ll339
      @w1ll339 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@bjzfishing Im going mid august and looking at what to buy the only way i've successfully fished lings before is trap rigs and dead mackeral. I'm trying to learn new methods. I got some 6oz underspin heads and im looking for a swimbait to pair with. I'm going out of HMB. Do you got any specific slow pitch jigs you recommend?

    • @bjzfishing
      @bjzfishing  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@w1ll339 yea usually a 5-6inch swimbait will work fine on 6oz heads, like a 6.5" ig hammer.
      It depends how deep you go and how packed the charters are. I think HMB boats generally don't go that deep, and if it's under 150ft I stay with 4-6oz heads.
      If you want to know how to fish swimbaits for lings here is an example: th-cam.com/video/P9lLRnVW_ho/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=bjzfishing
      I don't have any recommendations for slowpitch jigs as I am still experimenting with this myself the last few years.

    tell me how to avoid lure hook into the rock when you fish at the reef with all the rocks. Does cast and reel better catching fish than jig up and down?

    • @bjzfishing
      @bjzfishing  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      You just gotta constantly check your jig to make sure it is not sitting on the bottom. Thats how you get snagged in the rocks most of the time. For swimbaits, cast out as far as you can in the direction the boat is drifting to give the jig time to reach bottom.

    • @bjzfishing
      @bjzfishing  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      16oz +, at that depth you are better off trap rigging 24oz+ if you are on a party boat, otherwise your chances of tangling everyone else with 300ft+ of line out is really high
