I don't understand why a lot of people still can't accept Arnel as a part of a journey band. Just be grateful for this man's (Arnel) contribution to continuing the legacy of Steve Perry's songs and making the songs and band alive as much as he can. Just accept that steve can no longer sing. Remember, Steve loves Arnel to keep his songs alive. Yes, there is always an original and it's normal we can't compare the TWO different talents but please just give respect to this man for keeping the journey alive.

I have never checked out this singer Arnel before. I have heard all the comments about oh he’s not Steve Perry . No he’s not . But then nobody can be Steve Perry but Steve Perry ! This guy is fabulous!!! I don’t know where they found him . But God Bless Journey for finding him . My Lord the guy can sing the songs . He not only sings them but does it with style and grace . I have to say watching some of the old Journey videos is hard . You can tell that Steve and most of the rest of the band did not get along . Steve looked to be alone out there ! Maybe there is a bit of a friendship between Steve and Jonathan. But that’s it . This guy has fun with the rest of his band mates ! Like I said nobody will be Steve Perry . But give this guy a chance . He’s fantastic
They found Arnel on utube performing in a Journey tribute band.
Perry took Journey to be the top All American band, but he also caused its decline when he took a 10+year absence in 1989. He regrouped in 1998 only to back out again before their scheduled concert. When talks of a replacement started, Perry sent his lawyer, why? It seems like his message was, if he can't sing, nobody can. This is the same mantra of his die hard fans. The founders (Schon, Valory, Smith) got legal ownership of Journey while Perry was awarded royalties for his songs. They hired Augeri, Soto and finally Pineda. Today, they have become a multigenerational and global band.
He’s a total Godsend. I saw them at The Hollywood Bowl 6-7 yrs ago and he completely blew me away and the original guys as solid as ever. 🙌🏻⚡️🎶❤️🎶⚡️👏🏻💯
They found him on TH-cam to ; he was living on the street in the Philippines🇵🇭 before .
@@jgreen3871 And it all came out in the recent court case that had been paying him even though he wasn't singing. Hope he has decided, now that it's public, that those payments should stop. Steve's a great singer but my opinion of him as a person went done considerably on hearing this.

This guy nails the vocals as well as anyone could outside of Steve Perry himself.... Anyone who thinks it's easy to sing at that level for 2 straight hours has never been a singer in a rock band....This is an epic performance akin to running a marathon. Arnell is very, very good, and it takes a lot of talent and training to put out that voice and energy for 2 hours. Kudos!
I completely agree, and Arnel's been doing this now for 15 years! I have not personally counted, but I bet Arnel has now performed in the most live shows of any lead singer of Journey.
Not just 2 hours, but every night for 2 hours. Every night in itself is brutal.
Boss, I'v been singing since childhood but I cant even memorized the lyrics of my favorite song, I play guitar always looking at the songbook. How much more to memorized all those songs, what an incredible memory to sing all those songs.
There are a lot of very good Filipino singers, and Arnel is one for sure. My wife is Filipino, was in a band for a long time, and sang with one of the most famous bands in the Philippines. Most of her family members play some instrument. For many them music is a way of life that they grow up with.
Arnel had been a Marathon Singer since he was a teenager catering on US Servicemen in the clubs outside of the 2 large bases in the Philippines. He had been singing in clubs Hongkong also until Neal found him in the Philippines. He had already more than 30 years of singing experience when Neal saw him in youtube. He isn't new. He is a well-oiled seasoned veteran. He was much better in his younger years.
Steve Perry should be proud of how well Arnell covers his works. Singing in that range for that long is NOT easy and this kid just keeps right on going.

Holy crap, that version of Open Arms, Arnel sounds more or less as good as Manila 2009! Really turning back the clock. Super happy for him.
A lot of it had to do with their ex sound engineer not feeding Arnel the correct audios. Dean covers this in an interview. Once new sound engineer was hired, it was like regaining eyesight again.
Arnel just keeps getting better. We saw them 6 years ago. I was a lead singer. He has more range than Perry. Arnel saved the Journey we love for another generation. Neil is a guitar god and the band is pure precision but let’s face it, it’s that voice that defines the Journey sound.

The best thing I love is Dean comes back to the band. he is not just a drummer, his voices,backs the vocals, he takes the lead vocal is awesome. keep working together guys. God bless you

@2v_5r you can ask me all the questions you want, it doesn’t change the fact that Arnel uses auto tune. It’s a very subtle type of pitch correction, but auto tune none the less.

His voice is shot now! You should have heard him when he first started with Journey. He never replaced The Voice, but he was close enough to let you forget. Now, his voice has noticeably deteriorated.

Neal Schon is a freak of nature. Yes, he's been playing many of these songs for 40 years, but to still be able to do it flawlessly every damn time. Simply unreal.

A truly fascinating story as to how Arnell got the gig with Journey!
I'm two years older than Arnel. When I was still in college. I frequent some bars around Manila. I first saw Arnel in Shakey's Taft Avenue in Manila with his band Ijos band. He was only 17 and he was already very good. The second time that I saw him he was already the vocalist of Journey. While vacationing here in the Philippines, he visited a few bars to jam with the local musicians playing in the bar. He was with his former bandmate/ guitarist with his former band Zoo. He perform acoustic. He was better. His composure,his voice is from another level. His exposure in the international music scene made him more spectacular. Fantastic experience as I was just below the stage, 4 to 5 feet from him while watching do his thing. I approached him after his performance and we had a short conversation. He's very approachable and kind. Thank you Arnel for bearing the flag of our country in the international music scene and showing the world how talented Filipinos are. Good health dude!
Arnel is beyond remarkable, Journey got lucky to get him, if u have never heard his cover songs before he signed with Journey, he could have signed with any band, I'm surprised that Loverboy didn't try sign him after he sang with them,,, dude is a legit chameleon, he can sound like almost any artist, Guns N Roses and Axl has a voice of his own and Arnel sounds just like him when he sings GnR songs, Steven Tyler, Freddy Mercury, even peter Cetera, and Kenny Loggins, Arnel is a remarkable artist and Journey should be beyond thankful that they got him because so many older bands can't find a decent replacement and struggle to stay on the scene while Journey is still going strong

Arnel Pineda have a brilliant voice. Steve Perry the same. They have both brilliant voice. They are both gifted and talented. As a musician considered myself. Had a gifted voice took voice lesson in Community college in San Diego. And had voice lesson privately. Arnel, is a Tenor and he seriously hit the high note. But like we are a human he get tired and of course changed his voice like everyone else. Arnel, seriously fitted to be the lead vocal of Journey in my judgment. Neil and Jonathan had the best judgment to hire Arnel Pineda to be their vocal lead singer. He has the best voice to be and join this Journey musician. Journey band leaders are very lucky to have Arnel Pineda to be the lead vocal singer. Awesome! We have to be proud that Journey had this guy. The best band ever in Rock and Roll. God bless America! The one Band that still pulls at my heart strings at 42 years old Journey made my life wonderful as a child and still to this day they are amazing...Still sound incredible!
I would almost say Journey are in their prime nowadays. While a lot of the older rock band struggle to replicate original vocals with their aged original singer, Arnel manages to sing up to the highest notes.
Steve would hit them with even more soul, baby.

The man is in his 50s and still rocks. Then there's Neal. The guy rips licks on the fretboard as if it was 30 or 40 years ago. Even as well as he could with Santana or early Journey.
I'm a classic Journey fan through and through - Escape being my favorite album of all time - but even I'll admit, no one can say Arnell doesn't absolutely crush it.

Unfortunately, AP is like a work horse singing 4-5 days a week now. No wonder he doesn’t mind anymore if Journey fires him. I think he even contemplated of retiring last year.

Having Arnel out up front delivering the quality of his vocals with the band has seen a huge step up in replicating these classics songs as best as possible in the absence of Steve Perry. As things stand we as fans couldn't ask for any better. Huge credit to Neal for keeping the Journey flag flying. All I need now on the back of the new album is live shows over here in the UK.
The final of "Send Her My Love" with the vocals on top, wooowww, great performance. Arnel is a great singer, is not easy sing this songs with the original key tone. aplause to him. Other coment, mr Neil Schon, great tone, great form, amazing performance. Love to Journey!!
The depth and range of Pineda's voice is incredible... endless life to Journey!!!
I love Arnel's story and the way that story and Arnel's personality has given the members a new view of life and their success. They seem grateful now that they have seen the poverty and neglect that Arnel grew out of. It has given new life to their music. Because of the chronic malnourishment of Arnel's young life, he has bone and joint problems now.

He has a powerful voice coming from the Philippines, the land of the singers..When Steve Perry could not do it anymore, Arnel Pineda continued the journey..Apart from his powerful voice, he is fluent in English though Filipino accent, nevertheless, he speaks so well and could communicate with anybody..
This was my main band back in the 70's. Never thought anyone could replace Steve Perry. But WOW, Arnel has never missed a beat.

I just caught Journey here in Dallas April 13 2022 , I'm here to say Arnel can carry the torch very proudly and high i herard Perry three or four times and Arnel does very good job the clearity is just absurdly awesome . His energy is great and makes show great!!! The group made a great choice in Perry's replacement!*****

Thank god Arnel figured out he's voice problems. Turns out he couldnt hear himself properly during concerts and that had been going on for 14 years... and he hired a vocal coach. He sounds amazing now. I hope Journey comes to Europe and Finland!

I love watching Journey perform cause they always look like they’re having fun. 3:20 I love how Arnel didn’t stop singing when his mic dropped. Whether he could still hear himself in his monitor or not it kept the song going.

Hey, I was listening to the concert more than watching it and I have been completely fooled by Arnel's voice thinking it was actually Steve Perry. After all we're talking 2022 here and during this time a singer voice usually changes (I recall Jon Anderson adjusting his voice and tone to keep up singing Jethro Tull songs) and I'm ok with that. Then I saw it was not Steve Perry and I thought "Wow, this guy's great on his own merits!" Great voice, great singing, great performance and great tone! Thanks all Journey members, after all those years to keep your music going and by making our lives brighter, happier and better!

Not nearly his best performance. The age is showing in his voice. He could never sing the falsetto part. They had the other keyboardist sing it and he didn't go for the highest note, not like Perry. Not bad though. It's a hard part to sing.

I wish he could sing more but I heard in one of his interviews that at LIVE Tour, he could only sing once.. At times, if the schedule of the Tour is back to back, he refuses to sing the next day..possibly because he exerts so much energy with the drum work..

Killer! Love the new set list. The songs flow much better this way and only the young is a much better opener than separate ways. Arnel is in fine form and the band is really tight and on fire! Thanks for sharing
I agree............. but they still need to finish with one of their signature songs. I think Faithfully should be the final song. Also, why didn't they include Feeling That Way? I think Deen could nail that song.
