    My favorite was the SS 1000 around Lake Michigan. Beautiful country and 2 lanes! Mackinac Bridge was impressive!

    I've done the SaddleSore 1000 twice, but then failed to send in the paperwork. And now I'm thinking about a 50cc and a Border-to-Border.

    I've done many Saddle Sore 1000 rides (about 12), and a Bun Burner Gold from San Diego to mid Texas and back. I'd like to do a Coast to Coast 50 CC. Maybe this riding season, before I get too old. (I'm 71). I agree with you that it is hard to find riding partners. All of my rides have been solo! Enjoying your channel very much.

      Hey there, thanks for commenting. Would love to hear about your 50CC if you decide to do it. Kudos for completing them solo. I have enjoyed the ability to chat with someone on the three I've done but sometimes it is nice to get lost in your own thoughts. I hope to see your name pop up in future videos.

    I did the Saddle Sore in 2021, and last fall started working on the Master Traveler. Visit 50 national parks, historical sites, etc in 25 states in 12 months. I'm about 40% done right now, and really enjoying it. You experience a ton, and ride thousands of miles, but having a year makes it really flexible as well.

    Back in 2022, I did 3 Iron Butt rides. My first was a 1600km (1000miles ) in Aug and in sept, I did two other Iron Butt Rides of 2000km each, all under 24 hours. In Canada, we have more choices and this year, I should make my 2500km (1500 miles) ride. I was 60 when I did my first Iron butt rides and my bike is my 2012 Goldwing. All my rides have been about the same, at first, the thrill of starting, after one or two hours of riding, the question of if I should turn back. One thing to make sure is finding gas stations opened 24 hours on our route, because you don't want to be out of gas during the night. Then again, the thrill of being in the wind for over 15 hours will be hard on the body and that is why I use my rain gear to keep me warmer overnight.

    • @chasingredlineofficial

      Thanks for sharing about your rides! I spent many years riding next to a Goldwing (my father) and they've always held a special place for me. I understand how that 2-3 hour window can cause doubt when you have so far left to go. Did you do all three rides alone or did you have a friend join along for any of them? Safe riding!

      @@chasingredlineofficial I was alone, therefore, I could leave when I was ready and stop when I felt it was time. My first ride, I stopped at a McDonald for a lunch and spent half of my way back looking for bathroom because I had to go. 1639 km (1018 miles) took me 18h41. My two other 2000km Iron butt rides took me 21h27 and 22h04. One took longer since I had to look for a gas station open.ed 24 hours

      @@chasingredlineofficial I did them alone and was glad about it. My first 1600, I spent half of my way back looking for toilets since my McDonald did not pass as I expected. My second IBR was my 2000km and I lost my camera 3/4 way back and I explained Iron Butt people with a Google Map outline and my stop list with my receipts. My third ride was another 2000km with all was great, but I also had my SWT (spotwalla) tracker I could send to IBA with an my road outlined.

  • @jasonshortphd
    @jasonshortphd 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Witness forms are not required with todays tracking through GPS and receipts. Using Spotwalla and other ways to track you is far more accurate anyway.

      @chasingredlineofficial  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for calling that out! I just rechecked the website and it appears the witness option is now considered the "alternative witness method". Looks like a simple photo of the receipt next to the odometer is accepted now too. Fully digital has to be the way of the future for these rides, I agree.

    Done quite a few over the last long time .. KW to Prudhoe is very doable if you have the time off , IIRC its about 5500 miles plus the distance from your start point to home .. Know several who have done the 48/10 . I think they still have it , but the four corners where you hit the northern most corner in the east and west and the southern most corner east and west .. Madawska Me Key West , San Ysidro and Blaine Wa , is on my list , they also have the four corners X , where you go to one corner then to the geographic center of the US ( somewhere in KS ) , then to another corner , then to KS and so on , after each corner you have to go to the KS location .. I have a ride where I want to hit all four corners , but hug the border and circumnavigate the country , is about a 12000 mile trip IIRC ..

    I've considered doing a SS1000 just to say I did it. Debating on doing it on my GL1500, or wait till I get a Cross Country Tour in the garage

    • @chasingredlineofficial
      @chasingredlineofficial  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think either bikes would do a SS1000 with ease as long as you feel they are in good working order. Wind management and ergonomics for you as a rider is key. I find that the large floor boards on the CCT offer variety in foot placement which I personally enjoy. The potential for buffeting on the CCT is something to consider and test over a few longer rides before you jump into a saddle sore. That is especially true if the hard lowers and large windshield has been removed/replaced. Report back if you decide to do it and let us know how it goes!

    I have done at least 10 1k and I am doing a 1500 in 36 for Presidents’ Day. It’s easy to just fill out the forms when you return home take pics of your receipts by your odometer and number them per stop. Save time and just fill out later.

    I’ve done that kinda ride 6 times so once I thought I would do the protocol and fill out paperwork to get a patch after doing the ride it was such a headache doing all the required steps sticking to the course I had mapped out it took absolutely every bit of enjoyment out of my ride I was so frustrated at the end I said screw this shit I never turned in my paperwork
    Just my take
    I’d rather ride my way change my route at a whim go a different route if something interest me rather than document every step with notations just a pain in the ass, I ride for the fun of it not to get some self proclaimed award to wear around

    • @chasingredlineofficial
      @chasingredlineofficial  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for jumping into the conversation. Your perspective and opinion is totally understandable.
      I think for some, it is wearing the patch around that is important. For others, just knowing that you did it is something. I personally don't wear anything with me apart from the license plate backer being on the bike.
      I think the IBA challenge itself is enticing for many. I think it is the same part of a person that would cause them to run a marathon or ride a bicycle across the state of Missouri.
      But, there is no substitute for those enjoyable rides to explore and site see. I'm with you there. Thanks for watching!
