I have a 2013 Cross Country and went with the lower wind deflectors and saw little difference. I saw another TH-camr’s post and he suggested the MadStad windshield and the soft lowers. I have been riding with them for about a year now and it has eliminated the buffeting. Your video just solidifies that this product works!

I purchased a used 14 Cross Country in June of 2017. It had a Klock Werks 11 inch screen which seemed good for my 6 foot height. The buffeting was ridiculous. Having put fork wind deflectors on previous bikes I bought a set that Witchdoctors sells for $179.00 at that time. They look exactly like this man has except they were metal. Cleaned up my buffeting. To make it even more calm I put chaps on the engine guards, which I only take off on the really hot months of July and August. I do know a good many Victory riders that do like the Madstad System also, but fork wind deflector are a serious improvement.
I ride a 2012 CCT and still have the hard lowers on. After some research I got the Madstad Victory Magnum design. the adjustment allows to set up for best protection for you and that design looks great. I purchased one size taller than the chart suggested which leaves the windshield closed the fairing at the bottom and gives you the height to hit the right placement. It helps the cosmetics of the set up .
Thanks for the comment. I agree that keeping it low helps to blend into the bike. I've really gotten use to the Madstad to the point where I enjoy the look.
I had the same issue on my 13 XC and gave it a year to fix the wind management or I was done, as much as I loved the bike. Headaches overrode the enjoyment. Bike came with a Klokwerks 12” with a flip that looked good but wasn’t keeping my head from trying to come off at highway speeds. I tried the fork mounted wind deflectors and I just don’t care for the look. I tried the triple tree deflector and it helped. I considered my helmet as a possible contributor (Bell Rogue) which I really liked but not as much as becoming buffeting free. Switching to a modular helmet helped but didn’t eliminate it. I’m making progress at this point but not quite there yet. A friend suggested getting lower fairings but I didn’t want to spend the money and I don’t care for the look. I tried a friends bike with lowers and I still had the buffeting 🤷🏼 I finally came across somebody saying they found the holy grail of cross bike wind management in a Madstad windshield. As you may have noticed, I’m particular about looks as well as eliminating the buffeting and I wasn’t impressed with the Madstad look but I ordered one (9” smoke) and put it on. Ran out to the freeway with it adjusted all the way down and hammered it to 80 for about 5 miles. Pulled off and adjusted the shield all the way up and ran it back down the highway again. I didn’t notice a difference with it high over low so I dropped it down again just for appearance. I had found the sweet spot thanks to the Madstad.

My XCT had a Madstad on it when I purchased it used. I absolutely hated that windshield. Mainly because I could not get used to how far forward the windshield sits. And it was not the easiest or the most sturdy to adjust. And of course it's butt ugly 😅 I changed it out with a fairly short shield with a flair on the top and it works great and looks great! Thanks for the Victory content. Love My Victory XCT 😎
Ha! Thanks for the comment Michael. It is definitely a different look over what I had been using. The XCT fairing is pretty far forward to start with and this does push it out another couple inches. Glad you found a shield that works well for you!
Swapped from stock to lthe Klockwerks mid-screen and still had buffeting with a full-face helmet. Swapped helmets to Victory's half-shell helmet and the problem was solved. Never looked back. Still my favourite 600 km per day touring setup after 10 years.

My video on fixing the "heat & buffeting" issues of a Victory Cross Country is the most watched video on my channel.... I did use a Madstad but for the lower "wind control" I did something completely different and custom. Good ideas and good luck with the video.
Hey there! I just took a look at your video! That custom solution is pretty sick. It is amazing that the specific placement made such an impact. I hope others see your comment and check out your video!
@@chasingredlineofficial Unfortunately this year, after 10 years and 78k miles of ownership I had to give up the Vic, due to it having problems I didn't have time or facilities to deal with. I do miss the bike, it was a very cool ride and I have tons of memories made on it. As I said in my video, I remember that first long ride with the massive buffeting I got. I was wearing a 3/4 helmet and my glasses wouldn't even stay on my face. The other issue was, when I tried the typical buffeting fixes, I literally got cooked by the engine heat. Some how I stuck with the bike until I worked it out... With the Vic gone I purchased a 2018 Goldwing Tour back in August. I hate to say it, but there's no comparison between the two bikes, the Wing is a whole different world of comfort and power.
@@painsrides3616 Yeah, sad to see her go. I'll be very sad if that day comes for me but we are all just trying to keep these things on the road as long as we can. That is awesome that you got a wing though. Those hold a special place for me as my dad had a 2000 Golding he purchased new and I was able to ride next to that bike until 2020 when he switched to three wheels (Can-Am). That thing sure have power left at highway speeds. Heat was one of the reasons I took the lowers off but mostly it was just wanting to feel a bit more (clean) air and be able to see the road below me. I didn't care for the feeling of having a wall in front of me. Keeping the 106 cool was a bonus.
I have a '13 Cross Country Tour with 58,000 miles that I've had since brand new. I had the same buffeting issue ever since I took the lowers off. I tried many different windshields, but the Madstad definitely was the best for controlling the buffeting. It might look uglier, but I prefer the function of it over the look of it.
Thank you Chris! As I've ridden with it for longer, it is amazing how quickly you get used to it. The wind improvement has remained consistent which is great.
I've got about 250,000 miles on two different Vic XC's with the Madstad bracket - and I find that it's 50% of the equation when it comes to stopping the bad air. Fork deflectors are the other half from my experience. Recently I purchased my 3rd XC and I switched it up on the lower half. I made some wind deflectors that mount where the factory fairing wings mount - onto the bottom two bolts of the inner fairing. They basically block wind in the same area as the factory wings when they're fully closed. Those are working exceptionally well without lower fork deflectors at all. However - I might be getting more heat in the seat. I've always heard folks complain about engine heat on the XC, but I never experienced it. This is a new bike to me, so maybe it just runs hotter. I don't know. So...I'm going to switch these out and try my trusty old fork deflectors to see if the heat problem dissipates.
Hey there, thanks for sharing your experience. I'll be curious what you find on the heat issue when you do your testing. There have been a lot of thoughts shared on the channel around heat and I also haven't really felt that. With that said, I've had those fork deflectors on for most of this bike's lifespan. Ride safe!
My personal experience in over fifty years of riding is that you're bike can either "look cool" or be comfortable and often, the two are, usually, mutually exclusive. At 77 I opt for comfortable!
The fix is blocking the airflow from below. I guarantee buffeting would be gone if you put the tour lowers back on and take off the fork mounted lowers. I have the forged bar lowers and make/sell filler plates that eliminate buffeting completely to the point that the only thing a windshield does is change airflow over your head based off the height with zero buffeting. I also tried and have the Madstad (along with 4 other windshields) with no complete fix prior to lowers.
Hey there, you mentioned that you make/sell filler plates. Feel free to pop your business information in the chat for others to see. The community might be interested in what you are using/making. Safe riding!

I want to ride with someone that has experienced this buffeting so I know what it is. I have a 2012 CC with forged bars and the glove box hard lowers with the wing vents. I just don’t notice anything out of the ordinary. Typical cross wind push and differing amount of wind when passing semis.
It is very interesting as many report awful buffeting and others report none at all. In my observation, the XCT doesn't have a buffeting problem. The XC can but any kind of lower reduces it by various degrees. Rider height also might play a part. A very low wind screen can also reduce it as well by reducing the vacuum effect. Wind screens of medium height seem to be worse off. Riding at lower speeds does not raise to a problem. Higher speeds for long periods of time increase the impact. All that to say, it is a very personal thing it seems like. What size shield are you rocking? Thanks for watching and the comment!

Hey there. These were sold by Arlen Ness years ago. The closest you can get now is sold by witch doctors. They are the same shape but the different material. There is a link from my website if you'd like to check them out. www.chasingredline.com. Check out the gear section.
@@chasingredlineofficial I was running the stock 17” for the last 2 years. I recently changed to an 11” which I don’t have a lot of miles on yet. I’m 6’ 1” and usually run 95 or so on the highway.
I may switch back to the big shield for the winter since I ride year round. Depends on how cold I get with the new windshield and a full face helmet.
@@chanedevier2713 Roger that. 17" to 11" is quite the jump. So you and I are comparable heights. Have you rode much without the hard lowers? This is an interesting comparison.
@@chasingredlineofficial I’ve never ridden without the lowers. My lowers are aftermarket. Apparently back in the day, JTD made inserts for the forged bars.

What size did you get? 11 inch?
I got the 13". Seems to work well for my 6' 2" frame but is also positioned low.
I cant hear the Vic tic?! What did you do to remove that?
Interestingly enough, I've never had that problem in the 11 years I've owned the bike. What I can say is that I have the stage 1 setup which may contribute to the result. That includes the performance reusable filter, triovals, a flash, and I always use Victory oil.
Duck down
"1000 miles in a day" I call bull 💩
:) If you haven't discovered the Iron Butt Association yet, I'd recommend you check it out. Might inspire you to attempt some longer rides. Saddlesore 1000 is generally considered the entry level IBA ride. Safe riding!
You need a car
Get a different helmet
When i had Victory I enjoyed them, I had a 2015 Magnum which was great for when i was riding 1-up, then had a 2016 Cross Country Tour for when my wife wanted to come ride, got them new and then sold them both in spring of 2021 and went back to Harley. In 2023 my wife wanted to start riding again and picked her in a Tri Glide, i dont see myself going back to Polaris anytime soon. Indian just has too much of a plastic feel to it.
Thanks for the comment. What model Harley did you end up going to?
@@chasingredlineofficial
2021 Street Glide, but I do miss my 16 Magnum
What made you decide to sell your Victory's and go back to Harley?
Do you like the street or the magnum better?????
Was the magnum a rough ride because it's lowered in back?
