" He got soul and he's super bad " gifted, gifted and again gifted !!! Michael Brecher was so under rated what a phenomenal once in a generation saxophone player
Bobby Smith Why do you think he was underrated? He’s literally on thousands of recordings, revered around the world, played legendary solos on commercial recordings as well as jazz. Played live with numerous musical celebrities. He’s received Grammys as well as all kinds of awards for his excellent playing. That guy would literally bounce from studio to studio recording records and playing on many jingle recordings in the course of a day! I would really like to know why you think he was underrated.
When the jazz history book are written, Michael will undoubtedly be crowned the greatest sax player of all time. True, he stands on the shoulders of the greats who came before, but he took the art to an unprecedented level.
You have to put him with Coltrane, Parker, as the best of his generation. We will all miss him, but thank God for video; His greatest moments captured for the future. Thank You Michael!
Just think what Coltrane and Parker could have created if they hadn't died so young! Brecker was still in full flow in his mid 50's and in my opinion had a lot more to offer
Point well said. They probably would had offered more to the music if they took the direction Miles took in the 70's. Man what would the direction Jazz would have taken.
Silver necks tend to have a brighter, edgier tone. Mike probably wanted a little more punch for this line up. He often changed his set up depending on what group he was playing with.
Ben T. Solid silver is more dense than brass so the sound sounds much harder - but I have a feeling that the neck that he is using is a late model SBA neck-That’s how we gets that hard compact sound
I was in the audience. This was how the day got started, with this number. Blew me away!!
fckin lucky you!!!!
Lots of energy! I could start a mosh pit to this 😂👍🏽
that must've been insane
Mike Brecker was the greatest player in a generation, probably the greatest post Coltrane. He had everything.
I love how crowd reacted to the beginning of another masterful solo by the GOAT

Not underrated in the least. If anything Randy Brecker is criminally underrated.
How tf is he underrated

I've never seen Brecker so happy and chilled-out during a performance before.
Brecker does seem like he is genuinely having a good time. That's nice to see.

Wild tenor solo! Crazy man on the loose! wow!
No.1ですよ!
Michael Brecker was the sax alien. Amazing musician.
From the tempo to the clothing, this really did feel like a cocaine run from the 1980's. So much energy!
@@blablubs5596 I must have had a beer run 3 years ago because I barely remember writing that comment hahaha
Whoa. I never seen Michael Brecker that loose! So good. And godd@amn is he slaughtering it in his solo.
Beyond! Thank you MB. Rest easy, you're still with us!
Music from the soul. Randy and Michael were hot as it gets. What a treat to see this band on video. Thank you for sharing it with us all.
Michael seemed to be in a up beat mood that day. Sooooo missed you are Michael

Breaker wasn't really an innovator but ok.
Amazing Brothers!!!!!
Dos virtuosos del jazz fusiion brillante !!! La banda excelente
This is insane!!! 😳🔥
Thanks for the video 👏🏿👏🏿
Greetings from Uganda 🇺🇬👊🏿🖤
I've listened to many versions of SSF, and this performance is my favorite.
You're right. This is certainly better than the solo on the album.
Animal of The saxophone !!! Monster !!!
they were in a really good mood, the audience loved it.
Take off at 1:12! Brilliant!
Incredible
James Was freaking murdering that bass'!
5:50 Mike checks the time
His watch must show milliseconds
@@nnylg 16th notes maybe LOL
Mike casually checking his watch to work out based on the bpm how many seconds of the tune is left.
Michael takes no prisoners! And this was right after the Paul Simon tour where he really grew as a performer in front of big audiences..
That pose at 2:16
flashed a rare brecker smile for the crowd
Amazing performance and video.

that note at 2:10 is soooooo FAT.
It's amazing how just Michael resting for 2 bars is the cue to "The Lick" to emerge from that blistering genius solo!!
5:49 Brecker looks at his watch ⌚😆 I guess when you play 300 plus shows a year...
5:48
Why did Michael look at his watch? 🤣🤣
I was going to drink an Mt Dew after lunch, don't need that anymore. This version is HOT!!! Of course, all version are hot...
Michael Brecker playing a reference to another of his tunes: Nothing Personal at 1:52

❤️
This is not on DVD and VHS. This is only TV Program.
Is Michael Brecker checking his watch at 5:48?
"Gotta tighten it up!"
yes !!!
5:49 bro had time to look at his watch
Monsters of jazz fusión !!!!!!!!
Randy Brecker kinda looks like chuck mangione in this
Chambers was like, "Oh, you guys wanna play a lot of notes..."
2:30 🙌🏼
Looks like Michael had something else to do (min 5:50)
Is this on DVD or VHS or something? I want it.
Mickael !!!!!!!!!!!
5:48 looking the time hahahh
healthy af
Why silver neck on sax?
Why not?
Silver necks tend to have a brighter, edgier tone. Mike probably wanted a little more punch for this line up. He often changed his set up depending on what group he was playing with.

BluOp BULL SHIT about solid silver, it's hype
OMG listen to that fucking bass!
That rhythm section is crazy
this version its like doble speed than cd version
I think I need to check my blood pressure

Steven Segal on the Saxophone 😎
En el 5;49 mira la hora, ja ja ja.
I'd put these brothers up against Mies and Train in their youth any day of the week.
You can't be serious! Come on man.
I had to report your comment 🧐
Great playing of its time but very dated now.
In what way?
ludicrous.
BOH
nope
miles davis
Skunk Funk's just a bit too fast! Loses a little something at that tempo! : /
they go way faster sometimes lol
Agree.
Mmm not..
Improvisation without melody = not music!
Are you really criticizing Michael brecker rn
Michael Brecker checking his watch at 5:49. LOL
