As sax player I've always admired and wanted to emulate Michael's perfect tone quality and of course I failed. R.I.P. great one. Also, no other drummer can chew gum and play like Dennis Chambers! Great video!
You should check out Carter Beuford from the Dave Matthews Band, he chews gum and blows bubbles while drumming almost every show haha, the sax players are awesome too!
27:53 Common Ground 21:23 Stern's solo I can feel what whole they want to say to the world with only this one. How great and beautiful musicians and humans
Michael Brecker is a true jazz great. Saxophone is passionate instrument, especially in his capable hands. But man! Randy really shines in this performance. The Brother connection is unmistakable here. Both genetic, and other worldly spiritual.
Raised on Brubeck I heard these brothers for the first time in 1975 at college. I had their 8-track tape that I wore out. Some Skunk Funk is today still one of my favorite numbers of all time. I sadly never got to see Michael's genius in person.
After God comes …This band with these guy’s . How in the world can they play Some Skunk Funk so FAST….Thanks so much for this unique video ! Luc MTL Canada .
Great concert. I attended this concert in Lisbon when they came to Portugal back in 92 (or 93?). I remember the band I saw had two different members, LENNY WHITE replacing D.Chambers and DEAN BROWN replacing M.Stern. Greetings from Portugal!
got to see the brothers B IN PRINCETON NJ. BACK IN 74 OR 75, I BELIEVE STEVE KHAN WAS ON QUITAR, WITH JORDAN ON THE DRUMMS, DON ALIAS ON CONGAS. THEY BLEW ME AWAY, NEXT YEAR I WAS BLESSED TO SEE RETURN TO FOREVER, MY HEROES...
I miss Mike so much 'PILGRIMAGE' is one of his all time greatest recordings. He recorded it knowing he didn't have much time left on this planet and he left us with a masterpiece. Being a drummer it's impossible NOT to mention how monstrous Dennis the Menace Chambers is! This is one of my favorite line ups with the Breaker Brothers! I love Fusion! Fusion was the bridge between Prog-Rock and Jazz for me. I actually don't like labels on music. Let the Critic's do that. The critic is almost always against progressive music. Not so much different stuff that sucks but musician Music. Art, complex arrangements, improvisation... good Honest Music with a heart, Soul and Mind.
making music is communicating sans speaking all the time. Sometimes it's more obvious, the 'question & answer' and 'can u do what I do?' styles. Personally I like the more hidden variants.
You sure as heck DID NOT announce the names of the man on the Keys and Guitar in the INTRO of this vid who happened to have added a CONSIDERABLE CONTRIBUTION to the overall music~! WTF?
@@GeoCoppens they’re good compositions, it’s a good recording, and they aren’t emulating anybody else. even if you can’t dig the solos, this isn’t “awful” by any measure.
One of the greatest bands ever assembled.
People of masterful skill and creativity should be our heroes. Of course, that includes jazz musicians.

An ihrer Komplexität und Virtuosität kaum zu übertreffende Kompositionen! Eine unglaubliche Live Performance!!

Great composition (Above And Below) by Randy Brecker! Love those chords Stern is playing. I was lucky to see them perform that year.

His name is George Whitty
@@jonahm7545 Yes it is...I will edit my post to correct that. Thanks.
Holy lord
Isn't this one of the Barcelona shows? EDIT: Hah! No it's not - Stern's solo spot is way different.
Is there an album with this performance on it?
Minor point, but - George Whitty, not Writty
Extremely fast Skunk Funk version here....
