- The WDR Big Band performs the program "Some Skunk Funk" together with Michael and Randy Brecker under the direction of Vince Mendoza. Other guest soloists include Jim Beard (piano), Will Lee (electric bass), Peter Erskine (drums) and Marcio Doctor (percussion). Randy Brecker composed the tune "Some Skunk Funk'," and the arrangement for the WDR Big Band is by Vince Mendoza. Produced at the 24th "LEVERKUSENER JAZZTAGEN" (2003).
For the album the WDR BIG BAND received the GRAMMY for "Best Album by a Large Jazz Ensemble" in 2007 and Michael Brecker received the GRAMMY for Best Jazz Instrumental Solo for the tune of the same name "Some Skunk Funk".

wonderful music! WDR big band: very very good ! Al Porcino once said me about it: "WDR JAzz-orchestra is one of the best group by level of Music on the world !". Randy is the best trumpeter on the world, surely the best, and a great composer too! WDR-Big Band in Koeln : what a Jazz-Orchestra ![Randy Brecker said me it too!].

It’s of course a killer mike solo but his solo on SSF from BB live in Barcelona is even better. In fact, that may be one of his best ever.
