Sunscreen on the scalp isn't extreme, especially for thin/fair hair. I work in a skin cancer surgery center, and every day we remove tumors from the scalp of patients of ALL AGES. It's tragic sometimes, when the tumor turns out to be sizeable, on a younger patient, and they have to go through having a bald patch until the wound heals. It's easier to wear sunscreen or a hat. Please wear sunscreen everywhere.

I recently seen a study of 300+ sunscreens. Quite a few of these name brand sunscreens have a carcinogenic ingredient. These companies took advantage of the fear of skin cancer and aging, to cause other more dangerous cancers.

I totally agree. It’s so difficult to get the sunscreen onto the back of your hands without getting it all over your palms as well 😩. I found that using a makeup wipe worked well at cleaning off my palms, but I’m opposed to using them regularly because of the unnecessary waste I’m creating.
Perhaps a spray sunscreen would do the job (of course, then rubbing it in would defeat the purpose, but there doesn’t seem to be any other method 🤔)

Fun tip. I don't like sunscreen being on the palms of my hands because I wear contacts. I've noticed if I touch my eyes after applying I messes with them. What I have been doing is applying my face/body sunscreen and then I wash my hands. Then I'll rub a stick sunscreen on the backs of my hands and then rub the backs together to make sure I covered everywhere. Its a longer process but this is just the only way I can use sunscreen on my hands.

My number one essential skincare product is VitAustralia’s Emu Oil cream. The one major downside to it is that it isn’t vegan. At all. It’s very far from vegan, as emu oil is an animal product that requires the death of the emu. They take it after the emus are killed for their meat, so it’s not contributing to extra deaths (from what I’ve read), but it is still an animal product, just like meat or beef fat.
But- emu oil is amazing. It has a very small molecular structure so it penetrates better into skin, it has fatty acids and natural vitamin A. It’s been used by Indigenous Australians for up to 40k years for its anti inflammatory and anti oxidant properties. Taken orally, it’s used to lower cholesterol and help with IBS, and used topically, to help with arthritis, eczema, seborrheic dermatitis, and rosacea.
The specific cream itself is formulated really well, with humectants, emollients and occlusives (containing glycerin and petrolatum), as well as ingredients like Urea. All the ingredients boost and support the emu oil in the formulation.
It’s my go to for dry skin, for repairing my skin barrier, for healing wounds, and it’s also my daughter’s favourite winter moisturiser for her oily skin, because it sinks in quickly and doesn’t leave a greasy residue. It has a very silky finish, and noticeably softens skin.
Oh, and the best thing about this already amazing moisturiser? It’s $3.50 for a 250g tub. I buy it from my local Woolworths. It’s cheaper than plain Vaseline, and it works better, covering more bases. I believe that it is possible to get it in the US, but it won’t be as cheap as I buy it for (one site I saw had it for twice the price, which is still only $7).
If I had to choose only one skin care product that I could have for the rest of my life, this would be it. And it’s so cheap that I can use it not only on my face, but all over my body. I have a few tubs I keep in different spots around my home, just so I can use it whenever I like (also I’m disabled, so moving about my house isn’t terribly easy, hence liking to have things I need just there, no matter where I am). So VitAustralia’s Emu Oil cream is my biggest skin care essential. My favourite skin care product by far!

As for my favourite actives- retinoids, niacinimide, chemical exfoliants (I’m putting both AHA and BHA together because I prefer to use them together), caffeine and Vitamin K (putting them together because I use them for the same thing- dealing with my dark circles).
I’d like to give Vitamin C another try, but the only formulation I tried was the Ordinary’s suspension in silicone, and it was not only difficult to spread, it was also just atrocious! It stained my fingernails and cuticles, got into every single scratch and pinprick on my fingers (which I have a lot of due to hand sewing), and also my pores. And turned all of them a dark orangey brown. Can you imagine? It looked like I had orangey brown blackheads in every pore!
But I would like to give it another go, in a different formulation, because I do have hyperpigmentation that I’d like to fade, and I’ve heard really great things about using Vitamin C. I’m just not sure which to go for- maybe a C, E and Ferulic, just not the super expensive SkinCeuticals one because it’s simply not an option due to its price. Maybe I’ll try the Timeless version? I’ve heard it’s a good dupe for the SkinCeuticals one. Or there’s the Melano CC, which I’ve heard good things about. And the same Japanese brand also makes a “whitening” lotion that I’d really like to try- Gothamista has given it her seal of approval.
So I do have favourite actives, but if I had to choose between any of those actives and my Emu Oil cream, I’d be choosing the Emu Oil cream every time!

Happy Friday! If you shave under your arms everytime you're in the shower, should you use the benzoyl peroxide "underarm mask" before shaving?

      @AMcDub0708 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

That’s what I would do. Similar to exfoliating, you wouldn’t want to do that after shaving bc your skin is then more sensitive and you may have micro cuts from shaving hastily

Hey Dr. Dray! I live in FL & was wondering if you had any hat suggestions for super humid climates because I find a lot of them just make my hair & scalp sweat more and just isn’t ideal for Florida humidity 😅

I have traveled many times with my Sunday afternoon hats they are spf 50 can withstand wind because of drawstring they have a nice drape for the back of neck and lastly do not make me hot. I’ve worn them in Singapore and Indonesia which is probably as hot and humid as Florida maybe worse lol. You can find them on Amazon and hiking stores

I’m 22 am I not supposed to use the eucerin Q10 yet? I was using it consistently for like a month and my face starting breaking out in these red little rash like bumps, not pimples.

I might get in trouble for saying this, but I started using a 20% urea foot cream on my face every 3rd day. Perfect exfoliation with no irritation. My skin looks AMAZE-BALLS!!!! Like baby skin. And I'm 65! It's a miracle. Just keep it away from your eyes.

I've been using a salicylic acid wash to combat body odor and ingrown hairs. Is benzoyl peroxide better for these purposes? Thank you and I hope you have a wonderful day! 💛

Dr. Dray was asked this question on Instagram. She said that BP or chlorhexidine (aka Hibiclens) was a better choice for controlling body odor.

    • @AMcDub0708

Bp has antibacterial properties i believe she said, and it seems salicylic acid just exfoliates. That’s what I understand anyway 😁

Apparently nothing works. Hopefully she does a video on this because most products are trash. It's all about how big you get. I was fine until 39 weeks then at 42 weeks it looked like I was assaulted by a tiger. They do fade white after a year mostly. But they are so painful. I'll be trying Emu Oil next pregnancy.
