I’m team Vaseline! I’ve tried all 3 products and Vaseline is always my favorite for the thickness and the simplicity. It never irritates my skin snd stays on well and it’s the cheapest option! I use it at night around my eyes , around my nose(nostrils) and along my chin line and forehead. It keeps my skin so soft and smooth in those areas I’m usually dry

Me too. The less amount of ingredients the better it is for the skin. (Plus keeping up with ingredients that have potential reaction causing issues and trying to track the culprit down)

I am a flight attendant at a German airline and I've been using CeraVe Healing Ointment (thanks dr. Dray) for about a year now under my make up and over my serums/moisturizer. I’ve been slugging with good ole’ Vaseline since my early 20’s (41now), my dermatologist recommended it twice weekly when I started using tretinoin (still am) also twice weekly, after it dried/absorbed, right before I went to sleep.
Have never stopped. I started using cerave healing ointment instead upon discovering you during early days of pandemic, and it’s probably been (although hard to choose) the single best advice. I have used the aquaphor too, and although lovely, I prefer cerave prolly because of the ceramides, which you also introduced me to! I live in Puerto Rico now, use it daily. AC is a must at night and I wake up dewy and fresh and hydrated and I love you for it and everything else you do for the world! Muah!

I love both products and find them useful for different reasons. I personally found that CeraVe is great for my face and body, as it is easer to spread, a little less greasy-feeling, absorbs into the skin, and gives you a supple look. It's a great daily ointment. However, over time Aquaphor demonstrated that it performed best for severely dehydrated/impaired skin, especially on my lips. It is so thick and very occlusive. Aquaphor sits on the skin and doesn't absorb fully the way CeraVe does on me, so my lips stay hydrated and soft throughout the day/evening. (I also love Vanicream Ointment for my lips.) CeraVe, on the other hand, worsens my lip condition. I wonder if it's because of the ceramides/HA... my lips are chapped to begin with, and those two ingredients are best used on wet/damp skin or it can dry your skin out even more (I think?).
Anyway, definitely love both products and find them equally useful. CeraVe for daily use on everything, but my lips, for supple and dewy skin, and Aquaphor for severely dehydrated/chapped skin if you want to keep that part of your face/body moist and soft throughout the day/evening.

Agree with your assessment. My Derm always recommends Aquaphor (burnt myself with a heating pad when I had pneumonia; when they burned off skin cancer, etc.). I bought many Cerave products based on your recommendations and I need to apply them more frequently including the ointment. I have an absolute ton of skin care products in my "inventory" including a 2-3 tubs of the Cerave ointment, several tubs of L'Occitane Shea Butter, many bottles of the Cerave pm treatment and tubs of the Cerave moisturizing cream (and also their soaps)... Several bottles of La Roche moisturizer and sunscreen. My old go to used to just be L'Occitane's Almond Skin Oil (love it) before you learned me on skin care -- LOL (you've been expensive girlfriend :) ).
I got back on Retin A and Azelaic Acid (Rx from Derm) -- I see her PA and she forced me onto Differin for a couple of years (long story, but, I actually quoted you to the PA regarding she had previously told me I had thin skin from too much Retin A (between 30 and 55 when she would not refill me); now using the differin on my forearms (inventory of a dozen tubes of the stuff)... I am aging and have a lot of spots (and one ended up as squamous cell carcinoma recently). I need to reduce spots so I don't have so many to watch for skin cancer (shock face). Hoping that 5 year break in Retin A can be corrected :(!!! I grew up in the desert in NV. Last 20 years in the Pacific Northwest (so, not nearly the sun as I also spent a couple of decades in CA).

I heard that individuals who live in arid climates like you do have skin dryness issues when using products that contain hyaluronic acid, so I guess it has the opposite of intended effect.

After watching your posts I started using the Cereve healing ointment over old laser knicks (burns) and over a depression on cheekbone and after two weeks of twice a day use (over makeup), depression is gone, and burn is fading. When I use it under my eyes at night, my under eye concealer doesn't cake. My face looks plumped and rejuvenated. I really appreciate the detailed evidenced based education.

Cerave Healing Ointment is my baby for sure. For the past year, I have used it nightly as an eye cream, lip balm and around my fingernails to prevent peeling. I am so surprised how much my dry lips have improved plus stopped my skin from peeling around my fingernail bed. But the big bonus for me, as 59-year-old women; is that I barely have any wrinkles around my eye area. I also used it recently to quickly heal wounds from a bad fall. Love this product and Dr Dray!

Love the cerave healing ointment and use it as a lip balm/all over product when necessary! I do agree that it is more hydrating than aquaphor, and i think that it is because the cerave has good old water in it, when aquaphor doesnt. The humectants in aquaphor are probably not holding onto much water if there isnt any in the product and isnt any on the surface youre applying to. Just my hunch!

I've been using Aquaphor since I originally got samples from a doc. A tube lasts a long time and I'm almost out. Will try Cerave next, especially since my cleanser and moisturizer are Cerave products (and there are coupons.. ha ). BTW, Dr. D.... I started giving sunscreen etc... as part of birthday gifts. :-). Have a good weekend, stay cool. Thanks for everything you do!

Hi! I’m using Aquaphor on my hands and body, and Cerave on my face. I find the Aquaphor much for cost effective on larger areas, but agree with you that the Cerave gives a little extra boost to my facial areas. I am 67, and just now discovered both after my lips got dried out during Covid, and was SHOCKED at how much better my eye and mouth area looks! I was afraid of my adult acne returning, but there has been no sign of that in months. In fact, I think I was aggravating my skin before I finally started babying it. Thanks for this video contrasting the two. I think I’m on the right track now.

Dr. Dray can I just say how amazing and insightful you are? Thank you so much for all of your videos and content I always learn so much! Aquaphor is near and dear to my heart it's my go to diaper cream that I used with all three of my children. I practically would have a tube of aquaphor in my hospital bag when I would deliver to start using as a diaper cream right away. I can't imagine not having Aquaphor, it really helped preventing the diaper skin irritations and rashes. While I was using it as a diaper cream I started putting it on my lips. While I don't use aquaphor for diapers anymore I still use it every night on my lips and also have it around for skin irritations and scrapes for the kiddos they're super active. I might try cerave on my lips and see how it goes I really like the ingredients it has. Thank you!

I use the Aquaphor on my granddaughter during a diaper change because my DIL started her on that and it is a good rash preventive. The few times a cold or illness gave her a rash due to loose bowels we used the white Aquaphor zinc ointment to clear it up. Both work well. Recently I had several noncancerous lesions ( actina keratosis) removed by a dermatologist and the first week she had me use plain old Vaseline. Afterwards, I am using a clean compounded cream of Fluorouracil and Calcipotriene. Seems to be doing it’s job although things get worse before they better. Enjoyed this video as always.
