Bloodborne is a Masterclass in Visual Storytelling

  • We've seen the lore and story of Bloodborne be explained and explored in countless different ways. This game is impressive in many metrics, but one of my favorite things about it is how almost all of its story can be deduced by simply looking at the details and visuals of the game's areas. Bloodborne stands as one of the best examples of environmental and visual storytelling I've seen in almost any game I've ever played.

One thing that I discovered in the Clinic stage is that you are supposed to die to the first beast you see. Only in death do you have access to the Hunter's Dream, and are even gifted your first weapons!
It establishes the tone and gameplay of Bloodborne to a tee. For Fromsoft veterans it's easily missed, but for newcomers like I was it was a good primer of what was to come in the future.

The Soulsborne games have always been really good exampled of telling stories through environments. Bloodborne is, like the title says, a master class in that.

My youtube must be brokem because for some reason it says you only have 8k subscribers and a thousand views. I first watched your armored core video and the production quality was so damn good I thought it came out of some million+ sub studio. I've been a bit of lurker, but here you go putting out another total banger and getting so little recognition that I can't help but comment (and hopefully drive some engagement with the algorithm). Keep cooking man because I absolutely eat this stuff up.

I really appreciate it bro. The TH-cam grind can be brutal sometimes, but comments like these really keep me going

Really interesting timing with this video. I recently started up Bloodborne after having platinumed Elden Ring (well, a while ago) and been having a blast. I do love Fromsoft's style of drip feeding the player information of whatever forsaken hellscape they wash up on. It's really an art form they've captured since a long time ago, because even in Bloodborne, you're really hungry to understand just what the hell is even happening and the information is there. You get really invested by finding little secrets and having characters interact in unexpected ways. And I think the wildest part is that, so much of the fundamentals of what's going on these games are genuinely just optional.
Anyway, great video as always. Glad this floated across my timeline as per usual.
