Awesome movies that absolutely get darker as they go. I am kind of jealous of your experience seeing them for the first time. You guys should get some every flavor beans and take a trip to wizarding world Orlando after you finish the series.
These movies get only worse. After the second one the plot just goes to shit. The sixth may as well not be a HP movie since it lacks 50% of the actual core points
I was raised the exact same way as Holden, my grandmother never allowed me to read or watch Harry Potter, my mom never really cared, so I knew about it casually, because it was biggest thing in the world when you I was a kid, hell most of us were Harry, Ron and Hermione's age when the books and movies released. By the fourth one, I got interested, but by 2007, when I stopped living near grandma... Watched them all on the ABC Family marathon they had every few months, and then Half-Blood Prince on HBO, EVERY TIME it aired. So I when I got hooked, I got hooked. Look back at it now 20 years later, we're gonna revisit a journey from happy to grim one again.... Just in time for Fall and Halloween lol
This was similar to my growing up. Very religious family, especially grandparents . My mom was slightly more lenient, but it still wasn’t encouraged. So I snuck and saw these movies/books
I dressed up as Harry Potter for Halloween the first year the book came out and no one knew who I was. Librarian told my mom it was a good book for kids my age so she would read a chapter or two to us every night
Jen is great, showing how people react to something this legendary is GOLD (There are not so many people left who haven’t seen HP lol) I loved how she was a little prejudiced at the beginning but got involved till the end of the movie I can’t wait for the rest! It’s sooooo interesting
I died when Jen said "DumbleDORF" 🤣 so excited for HP ⚡ My history with this franchise is VERY similar to yours and it holds a special place in my life!
Jen, the series gets more adult as the kids grow up. It starts out childish, but gets a lot darker as the series goes on. I think you'll really start to like it around movies 3-4.
I just started reading the Order of the Phoenix to my 7 yo son. I did warn him that things get a bit more scary and to let me know if it's too much for him. He's enjoying it so far.
Growing up in the same age range as the actors, and them filming all of these over those years and experiencing them in theaters was a gift. It felt like I was literally growing up with the characters per film.
HP definitely has a very nostalgic element to it for a ton of people, it's millennials childhood memories attached which is why we love this franchise so much
@@marveldreamworks5330 Sure they are more gritty and less fantasy but i would say harry potter especially after the 2. movie has a much deeper level of darkness

I totally relate to you Holden, my mom deprived me of the amazing franchise of Harry Potter because of my religious upbringing as well. And I was told it was demonic and full of evil witchcraft until I was like 15. When I finally got to see them I still shed a tear at even an older age both because they were amazing and also I realized that I was missing such a magical experience my entire childhood

I randomly saw the final war scene when I was 16 at a cousin's, and got hooked. Then later reading all the books after watching the movies was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life
From a movie standpoint, I've been able to experience Harry Potter, LotR and the MCU all in theaters for the first time. All incredible series of movies I'm grateful to have experienced
When I was a kid and this came out, everyone was playing this on DVD. Hands down one of the biggest franchises ever and I'm excited you two are reacting to it now.

Congratulations on the engagement you two! I'm a HUGE Harry Potter fan, I read the books at least once a year, and always follow up each book with the movie adaptation - even got a Harry Potter tattoo (with plans for more). All I'm gonna say is, I can't wait until you get to the point where Jen gets to meet the one character that we all seem to hate even more than Voldemort - I can't wait to see her reaction to that character ;)
"I would like to see it get a little more darker". Jen, as the series goes on take notice of the opening intros. They mature as the series does and establishes the tone of the movie.
I like Olivander's character. I like that he treats Harry like an adult. He doesn't use kid gloves when answering his questions. And he doesn't shy away from answering them either.
Wow, this is the first video I've watched of yours in about 3 or 4 months. The quality is absolutely ridiculous, looks as though you've got a new camera, editing is extremely sharp and concise, and the new format for watching the movie with both the angle of you and Jen and the movie is soooo good. It makes me sad to know that Holden was almost deprived of Harry Potter as a boy based purely on an assumption. I wonder how many kids are out there that never developed a love for books or film for the same reason. Also, If Jen ends up liking the series, you guys should definitely read the books with the kids. You hear so many sweet stories from people who fondly remember reading the Potter novels with their parents.
Literally the reason I never watched these as a kid. I thought they were super nerdy, cringy movies and never gave them the time. I watched the first one last week during the Aus. lockdowns on a whim and absolutely loved it. These still hold up extremely well and I'm excited to experience the rest. 💪
I went to church with my uncle's family as a child. One time, he took all the kids in a room to show them a video about how and why Harry Potter was evil. I recall scoffing at a part of the video that had a fake news anchor talking about how good Harry Potter was but where someone had put demon horns on the anchor. He had pointed the horns out acting like they were real but stopped the video right after that looking kind of embarrassed. Wish I knew the name of this video now. I'd really like to watch it to recall just how bad it really was and maybe have a laugh.
My mom also thinks the books are demonic. Right after my parents divorce she had become "deeply religious" so all I was allowed to read and listen to had to be christian. My dad is an atheist, so on his weekends I could read and listen to whatever I wanted to. Thankfully she's more relaxed with her beliefs nowadays so she doesn't mind as much anymore.
Same happened to me as well. But when I got to high school I started watching and I fell in love with these characters. I also couldn’t watch spongebob cuz my parents said it was way too “inappropriate” but I’ve watched some episodes here and there over the years.
I HOPE this is gonna turn out like the time when RicoPresents showed it to his gf (who said she doesn't really like Fantasy at all) and had the same concerns at first. She got SO emotionally involved with the characters and the story by the end of the second/the third, it was cute af!

Just when I thought I was done with frequent vids now that Jen is caught up with MCU stuff, you pull me in even further! Can’t complain!
You guys have no idea how bad I wanted this. I'd just assumed she'd seen them already. Genuinely hype rn.

Holden: Yeah, just a rat.

Holden: Everything *meaningful smile*

As someone who must've watched these well over 50 times, when Holden said "Let's watch the credit scene", I internally died and questioned my existence...

Lol... We don't do that here...
If Harry Potter was made now you know they would have a end credit scene to tease the next movie.
There actually is an end credits scene in Chamber of Secrets with Lockhart
@@tannerp.4996 wait what ?
Awesome movies that absolutely get darker as they go. I am kind of jealous of your experience seeing them for the first time. You guys should get some every flavor beans and take a trip to wizarding world Orlando after you finish the series.

HA! Holden loves having a whole new series that allows him to sneer and wink at the camera again.
I can’t believe I didn’t get the notification when this came out. Can’t wait to watch this series with you!!
"You're a great wizard, Harry!"
Hermoine, he didn't cast a single spell this entire year at school. My boy is shit at being a wizard.
I didn’t notice that till reading this comment😂
You can only cast spell in classes
Wrong
He did we just didn't see it on screen
What about the spell to let the broom get into his hands?
Why was your grandmother crazy?
@@Grasfh She was SUPER religious.
Did u live with ur grandma? If not, why didn't u watch it at home?
This was similar to my growing up. Very religious family, especially grandparents . My mom was slightly more lenient, but it still wasn’t encouraged. So I snuck and saw these movies/books
I dressed up as Harry Potter for Halloween the first year the book came out and no one knew who I was. Librarian told my mom it was a good book for kids my age so she would read a chapter or two to us every night
“Look at the stairs, they’re moving”😂😂

(There are not so many people left who haven’t seen HP lol)
I loved how she was a little prejudiced at the beginning but got involved till the end of the movie
I can’t wait for the rest! It’s sooooo interesting
I died when Jen said "DumbleDORF" 🤣 so excited for HP ⚡ My history with this franchise is VERY similar to yours and it holds a special place in my life!
Still not as bad as the My Immortal fanfic writer calling him Albert Dumblydore.

I read in the old lady's voice
theres a storm coming. and you better be ready if it hits
Strom reaches Cat 5 by movie 5
Jen: where is the murder?
Deathly Hollows: Allow us to introduce ourselves
Jen, the series gets more adult as the kids grow up. It starts out childish, but gets a lot darker as the series goes on. I think you'll really start to like it around movies 3-4.
True, the directors changed after the first two movies
Still not as childish as MCU
Prisoner of Azkaban is still my favorite HP movie.
I just started reading the Order of the Phoenix to my 7 yo son. I did warn him that things get a bit more scary and to let me know if it's too much for him. He's enjoying it so far.
@@beowuff42 That's so awesome to hear. I'm glad he's liking it so far.
Another Potter Head in the bag!
Growing up in the same age range as the actors, and them filming all of these over those years and experiencing them in theaters was a gift. It felt like I was literally growing up with the characters per film.
HP definitely has a very nostalgic element to it for a ton of people, it's millennials childhood memories attached which is why we love this franchise so much
Can’t wait to see Jens reaction considering Harry Potter is way darker than marvel

Ooh I feel like Jen’s def gonna love movie 3 & 4 for sure. I can’t remember if Holden read the books or not, but it is so helpful to have a book reader with u watching the movies bc there’s so much they leave out so it can help fill in some blanks.

I thiiiink I saw some of them kind of early at friend's houses or something, because I was definitely into it before High School. I could just never talk about it.

I literally had a long conversation with my dad few days ago about how he forbade me from watching or reading Harry Potter, my whole childhood. I randomly saw the final war scene when I was 16 at a cousin's, and got hooked. Then later reading all the books after watching the movies was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life

Holden, do you take Jen to be your wedded wife, to live together in marriage? Do you promise to love her, comfort her, honor and keep her for better or worse, for richer or poorer, in sickness and health, and forsaking all others, be faithful only to her, for as long as you both shall live?
Holden: Who’s to say
"YOU! YOU'S TO SAY!"
The right answer is: Always
Congratulations on the engagement you two!
I'm a HUGE Harry Potter fan, I read the books at least once a year, and always follow up each book with the movie adaptation - even got a Harry Potter tattoo (with plans for more). All I'm gonna say is, I can't wait until you get to the point where Jen gets to meet the one character that we all seem to hate even more than Voldemort - I can't wait to see her reaction to that character ;)

"I would like to see it get a little more darker".
Jen, as the series goes on take notice of the opening intros. They mature as the series does and establishes the tone of the movie.
She rarely notice anything, too much focus on her snacks
I like Olivander's character. I like that he treats Harry like an adult. He doesn't use kid gloves when answering his questions. And he doesn't shy away from answering them either.
Yea I’m a fan of him I think ppl overlook him
I got a Deathly Hallows tattoo on my forearm. This is such a good series of movies and I’m stoked for Jenn to get to know these awesome characters
Wow, this is the first video I've watched of yours in about 3 or 4 months. The quality is absolutely ridiculous, looks as though you've got a new camera, editing is extremely sharp and concise, and the new format for watching the movie with both the angle of you and Jen and the movie is soooo good. Excellent work!!!
“It’s Marilyn Manson!”

The first movie is A LOT of exposition! So it has to bear the brunt of explaining the entire wizard universe, and doesn't get as much love because of that.
The book has that as well. And I think they both did a good job explaining the world
@@impalalover7412 Oh, absolutely! I'm not knocking the first movie, but it is a little slower because of all the exposition. The next movie gets to just jump right in feet first
Very happy to see "Philosopher's Stone" at the beginning of their viewing. Can't wait to see Jen's reactions to the darkness that is to come.
My favourite series & I know for a fact that the intro Devin Mombourquette (editor) has in store is going to be amazing. It has my standards to meet, and that’s saying something 😂

The reason they treat Harry like that is actually really sad and understandable when you get to the end of the series.
I think "understandable" might be a bit of a strong word there.
It's explained, but it is nowhere close to understandable - that's not a normal way to treat anybody.

How lucky. My parents were like Holden's parents. I only read and watched Harry Potter as an adult.
I would do that but with Percy Jackson since I grew up reading that. Harry Potter I’ll let them decided if they want to read it. I don’t have time in college to read them
My English teacher actually bought the first 3 for me and a few others, partly because we read so much fantasy already and partly because she had a brain tumor and the end of your life is a good time to be generous

It was the same for my bf growing up and the exact opposite for me. He only saw them just a few years ago when I wanted him to watch them with me.
Agreed. Their reactions were so fun.
