@@SWTobito0702 I know you're not gonna believe this, but I used to be a baby, and babies' senses aren't completely developed, and the best way to understand our environment is to literally shove the environment into our ever expanding minds.
At the end when Hagrid was released the actor playing Crabbe got excited and began to cheer. Tom Felton grabbed him and pulled him down to not ruin the shot. They decided to keep it in because it just looked like Draco was reprimanding one of his idiot friends.

After losing his memory, eventually Gilderoy Lockhart would become a accomplished actor and director, marry a famous actress who looks just like Professor Trelawney for a time, and a actress who looks Bellatrix Lestrange after that. He will be known for his Shakespeare work, and then direct big movies, like the first Thor film, Disney's live action Cinderella, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, be the star and direct the current Hercule Poirot films, star in Dunkirk, and Tenet... And... Unfortunately make that Artemis Fowl movie. The obiliviation was really responsible for that one.

Just a small thing, Hermione is brilliant and a fantastic character... but in the films roughly a third of her heroic moments either didn't happen in the books or were nicked from other characters (mainly Ron) because the screen writer was playing favourites behind the scenes 👍 so Ron does a lot more in the books than they show in the films.
True Ron contributes to the team a lot, even helping piece together the mystery in the second book

This culminates in Hermione even stealing Harry's heroic moments, like leaping onto the dragon in the final two movies. Unbelievable.
Yeah and in the movies she is also used as exposition a lot to explain magical stuff, when in the books Ron would give the magical explanations (which makes more sense because he’s been in the magical world his whole life and would know about the lores that would not have necessarily been in the books that Hermione read).

When they were all in the bookstore at the beginning and Malfoy takes Ginney's two books out of her cauldron, when he puts them back you can clearly see, albeit briefly, that there are now 3 books in her cauldron, the third being Tom Riddle's diary.
Yup, it's things like that which make going through the series again after you've learned the secrets that make things worth it. Like going through the first movie again (even in the book), every time Harry's scar hurts and he looks over to see Snape around, Quirrel is in the background too.
@@VegetaLF7 Pretty much every time they're suspicious of Snape in the first movie, you can see Quirrell in the background. You can see him staring up at Harry and mumbling when they believe Snape is cursing his broom, and he gets knocked over when Snape notices his cloak's on fire. And he's usually facing away when Harry's scar hurts, which makes sense because Voldemort's on the back of his head. I love little details like that, which are easier to hide in the background in a visual medium than they would've been in the books.
Agreed. There's a bit of it in the books but it was easier to pull off in the movies, Harry seeing Snape for the first time, for example, had a mention of Harry looking past Quirrell at Snape as the two teachers were talking to each other, just like in the movie. This meant that there too Voldemort on the back of Quirrell's head was facing Harry, right when his scar hurt.
Tom Felton adlibbed the Draco line about how "he didn't know (Goyle) could read" because he forgot his line. I love how he makes an impressed face afterwards, like he's so proud of himself. Classic!
Each book is a year in their lives... also, the general readership got older and more mature as the books went along. This made the "darkening" of the story actually happen, in my opinion.
They literally get darker with each movie as well.
Rowling said in an interview after the release of the final book that while she did intend for the books to get slightly more mature as they went along, she was surprised at how dark they became. She put that down to a combination of her mother dying just before the release of the first book and the pressure she felt when the series became far more popular than she could have hoped for.

30:49 Fun fact: Lucius' actor, Jason Isaacs, improvised that entire scene of mistreating Dobby when the director said they'll put Dobby wherever Jason looked. The director ordered a reshoot when he first did it because he thought Jason slipped.
And even the lines said by Isaacs & Radcliffe "LM: Let us hope that Mr. Potter will always be around..to save the day. HP: Don't worry..I will be." were improvised.

It was double improv. They shot the scene, but Jason Isaacs felt that Lucius would’ve said something, so the director told him to do whatever he wanted. They did the scene again, and after the line Daniel shot back with “Don’t worry, I will be” making Isaacs say “christ, this kid is good“.

The CGI for this film has drastically improved compared to the first one, that basilisk has some amazing CG!
I feel like they added the buckbeak shot when he puts his claw in the lake in PoA just to flex their CG game

Budget probably increased tenfold because of the success of the first
Draco's "I didn't know you could read," Harry's "Don't worry, I will be," and the awkward/nervous handshake between Ron and Hermione were all improved.

Definitely not in the minority, Jen! Hermione is often listed as Harry Potter fans favorite character! She is absolutely awesome!
The sad part is that a third of Hermione's moments in the movies are stolen. Ron does way more in the books but because the movie writers were playing favourites they took Ron's best moments and gave them to Hermione

@@theCrownofSympathy Both Harry and Hermione have a lot of their flaws smoothed over in the movies while Ron's are really brought to the fore. The Trio are practically different characters compared to their book versions. And don't even get me started on the differences between Book Snape and Movie Snape.

This made me realise how important Chamber of Secrets to the plot, all of the things that make you go 'that doesn't make sense' in COS are answered in the last two books. Even when the basilisk fang kills Riddle you can see her go 'wtf how does that work' and it's not revealed why until the sixth book. Unreal foreshadowing.
You should remaind her that they showed Voldemort's soul escaping at the end of the first movie so we know he is still out there
Ron's afraid of spiders cause when he was a kid Fred turned his favorite toy into a spider while he was holding it as a prank.
It wasn't a prank Fred was mad cause Ron broke his toy broomstick I believe.

I think my favorite thing about the movies is that they stay relatively consistent within each other. I know a lot of people bicker about the differences from the books to the movies, but I like that the movies work really well as their own series of films. I view them basically as an alternate canon of the HP story, which is generally how I view most book adaptations. They'll be similar, but there will be differences, and that's okay as long as the films work well on their own (and I think they do for the most part).
Very excited for more! I quite enjoy these movies, and Prisoner of Azkaban is probably my favorite movie of the series. It's so much fun reliving these movies again through Jen's lens.
EDIT: I just want to be clear, I’m not saying the movies are perfectly consistent in every facet…I quite literally said “relatively.” The overall storytelling and characters work well across the movies. I understand that visually the movies change, especially from the third film and on. I just mean overall the saga works well together in terms of the storytelling.

@@martinjeanneteau7950 as a percy jackson fan, that might be the pettiest thing i've ever read, while i dont like some of the later movies as much, the HP movies are EXTRAORDINARY, both as movies and as adaptations
@1993DJC I see what you mean, obviously there’s a pretty big creative direction shift from the third movie and onwards. I wouldn’t say perfectly consistent, but as a whole I think the series works pretty well in terms of character direction and overall storytelling. It’s also a lot easier for a trilogy of movies to remain so consistent as opposed to an 8 film saga.
But that’s just my opinion, it’s okay if you disagree 🙂

Except the movies don't work without some knowledge of the books. Perfect example: where does the shard of mirror come from in DH part 1? It's pretty important as it's the sole reason the Trio are able to escape Malfoy Manor before Voldemort returns and kills them all. Yet, it's just there. Harry carries around this piece of broken mirror for months for no other reason than it's needed for the plot later on. It drives me crazy because it has a great and tragic backstory that was skipped over in an earlier film.
I'm glad Jen likes Dobby right from the start. There's many reactors who don't, and seeing as I friggin' love Dobby it's nice to see someone taking a liking to him right away.
In the books, Ron's wand was repaired with "Spell-O-Tape" which is a pun on the British brand of Scotch Tape known as Sellotape.

Jens reaction to Dobbywas hilarious she literally went from what is that ugly thing to omg he’s so adorable! Lol that was probably a good depiction of everyone’s reaction at first, he definitely grows on you fast.
You could actually see there was an extra book Mr. Malfoy put into Ginny’s cauldron (the diary), in the short scene where it shows him giving it back to her. Very subtle!
First and foremost… awesome t-shirt Holden!! Y’all got me rewatching this series. Best moments are always Jen’s facial expressions towards Holden!
It definitely gets darker. One of my favorite things about the book And the movies Is how well the story mature's with its intended audience. In the beginning it Is focuses very heavily on the magic and coolness of it all. Then when the readers and Harry reach puberty They start adding budding romance parts. Then as the readers get old enough to start understanding Consequences, And how the world isn't some fairy tale like Harry Potter. Harry Potter. Harry and his friends also start understanding deeply that the world is not a fairy tale... even though their world IS a fairy tale.
Just so you know, there's extended cuts for Movies 1 and 2. Adds a bit more source material in there from the books. Too bad they stopped doing them. Movies 3-8 could've really used some.
I didn't know about Chamber having one. I have the first film's version and loved it, I'm going to have to look into getting the 2nd.

A cool detail in the beginning of the film is that when Lucius Malfoy picks up one book from Ginny's basket, you can actually see him place two back, one of them being Riddles diary
The intro graphics just keep getting better and better. I need to rewatch this series myself, I hardly remember anything about these movies

This is just my opinion of course, but i think the first two are enjoyable however the weakest movies of the series. From the 3rd movie on is where it gets juicy for me. Even in terms of quality of production and the cinematography looks amazing from the 3rd movie and on. Im really really excited for Jen to see the rest!!
Huh, in my opinion the films peaked at part 2 and 3, and after that they got generally weaker. That's not the case with the books, but the movies just couldn't fit in all the necessary information part 4 and on, and got to hunt up on the relationships.
3rd 4th 5th and 8th the best 1 and 2 are bummy.. only good part is Dobby and lockhart
@@dhruvadange4778 yeah the final books are fairly long so for a movie lots has to be cut. I think the first 2 are the ones that follow the books very closely.
Completely agree. I've watched the last 4 movies probably over 20 times each, but the second movie only a handful of times. Always end up skipping it.
Yea, Alfonso Curron really expanded Hogwarts and made the students feel like actual students. They’re still in uniform, but he specifically didn’t teach any of the kids how to tie a tie, or how to iron, just to make it feel like these kids actually lived there

I just watched these movies again with my gf sometime last year. She ended up really enjoying them as well. I forgot how much I absolutely adore these movies though. Even as dark as they get, they feel very comfy, especially all of the Christmas stuff. I cried like a baby when we finished it, idk I get so wrapped up in the world that watching them all again back to back so quickly just kinda pulled me back into it. So glad you guys are doing this series, can't wait to see her reaction to the next movies especially.
Seriously Holden, these videos are unbelievably valuable. I can't express to you how much I hold these videos deer. I grew up with Harry Potter, absolutely adore the books. I was obsessed with the films during my teenage years. I always wanted to imagine watching them for the first time!!! These videos allow fans to get a taste of what its like to experience something really awseome, like Harry Potter, for the first time.
Just my opinion, but the first 2 movies truly have a magical feeling the others do not have in my opinion. (Not saying they're the best). This is a big upgrade from the first one.
The ending where Hagrid returns and the camera pulls out through the window with the music playing still makes me cry to this day.
Gotta love Holden's appreciation for the solid bye gone Jim moment from Dumbledore at 30:07.
Really loving how Jen is picking up things that are important without knowing it, like not explaining Lucius' connection with Voldermort yet.
I think it shows she does really like it. I am loving this and the next movie is my favourite and so I cannot wait to see her reaction to it.

Last year pre-pandemic I got to go see Harry Potter and the chamber of secrets with a live orchestra. It was awesome.
My favorite part is the third one, because it still has that childish vibe, like finding out something new about that world, but at the same time it has got a bit darker and i like it. Can’t wait for you to watch it.

When i just started watching this series a week ago,i thought the first movie was just ok, second was a bit better, but prisoner of azkaban is way i can say its great, i like the time travel story of course, but the story overall is way more interesting to me, goblet of fire is also really good, I haven't watch the later movies yet but if not for azkaban, i might drop the series tbh
