@@KitchenWitchery hell no! Although it would be okay to briefly mention homosexuality in sex ed to 8th graders, an extensive lecture on homosexuality is to be made by the children's parents (if the parents even wish to do so), not by a school.
@@DCBfanboy They should, many children don't get taught about homosexuality - in sex-ed and in history - because so many families don't talk about it and many schools are scared of teaching children about homosexuality in case of angry parents, so we have to educate ourselves or, in some cases, we are blessed with teachers that teach us about LGBTQ+ history. The most I've ever gotten was a student discussion, brought up by my friends and I, about anti-gay rhetoric and propaganda in Nazi Germany, a short talk about Alan Turing, and a debate, brought up by my friends and I, about LGBTQ+ rights.
I wanted to do a project last year on gay marriage, but I wasn’t allowed because it was too much of a “mature topic.” I’m fairly young, but I don’t see how people getting married is mature. If it was on how strait people started getting married, I would have been able to use that topic for sure.
I remember learning about him in third fourth grade, it was really at the heart of when I started understanding more about what it means to be gay which would be essential a few years later when I was coming out
I was a child, then, I remember the Boston media talking more about the 'Twinkie Defense' in the trial than anything about Milk being gay, much less a civil rights figure. Stunning in retrospect.
Imo protecting the children has always been a dogwhistle for any kind of reactionary defense of the bourgeois family and its associated values. For example, the satanic panic around daycare was a reaction against the breakdown of the family, specifically (partial) transfer of the responsibility of child rearing from the mother to wider society, using the excuse that the children were in danger of being corrupted
I just watched the movie Milk before I knew this video was coming out and I cried- it was so wonderful yet heartbreaking. Also I’m glad to be a patron you’re doing a good job man
I'm sad you never posted the rest of this series! You did an excellent job of providing summaries of the key parts of the history. I'm using these videos for my college classroom. I'd love to see more on the AIDs epidemic, DADT, DOMA, and the legalization of gay marriage...
This was awesome! Do you think you could do an episode of "Are They Gay?" on Aziraphale and Crowley from the book and soon-to-be Amazon Series _Good Omens_ by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett? It's really great and I personally ship them HARD. Lots of moments of good ol' fashioned domestic husbands in denial.
There’s a picture book in my school’s library kid’s section called “Pride: The Story of Harvey Milk and the Rainbow Flag.” I live in a souther state in a pretty conservative area but people (including children) regularly check it out and it just makes me happy and hopeful 😊😊
I just found your series and absolutely love it! I've recently joined the LGBTQIA+ community and have been trying to find historical content everywhere I can and this series has been so comprehensive as a lot of what I've found focused on gay men and left out other perspectives. I would love to know what sources you used!!
It's not my call but why do those spreading hate seem to continue to do so even now but those who tried to make things more accessible are no longer with us.
I'll have to do a presentation in school and I was just at deciding wether I wanted to do one about Harvey Milk or Magnus Hirschfeld when I saw this video
I just binged this series only to see this last upload was 3 years ago. I loved watching it and it was very informative, do you think you'll ever continue it in the future?
Hay, i t started the Series Good Omens and i think you should check it out. There`s definitely some gay tension between Aziraphale and Crowley ;-) Btw greeting from Germany ^^
I came across these videos randomly, searching for some spanish documentation about this issue since I am from Spain. I have to say, I new nothing about all these figures or your history, since the history we study here is more centered in Europe. Still, I don't remember studying spanish gay movements or icons, and I am sure we also have a lot (that's actually why I am researching about it), which I think is really dissapointing. The thing is, I founded these videos really informative, and very well edited. It increased a lot my interest in my own research, and I have to say that I almost cried at some points. Somehow this issue makes me really emotional. Maybe it is because you use real photos and clips of these people and events you are talking about. I pause a lot of times the videos to read the signs that people hold in the pictures, and all I can think about is how these were real people, just like me, who had the necesity to write something like "Same treatment for gay people at hospitals". It just made me think a lot, of how I just believe it's something logical that my therapist, friends, professors, and parents accept my sexual orientation. Just like something normal, just like it is. This only makes me realice of how much it took for some people, (their jobs, their homes, even their lives...) to make possible that I can be myself in this moment. It makes me feel like I have a lot to pay back. I wished I could thank all this people who were before me and gave so much for the future. I am glad to live in that future. Anyway, keep doing your thing, I really enjoy these documentals! Thank you for sharing it with the comunity. Greetings!
You should totally do an "are they gay" video on Jay Gatsby and Nick Caraway from The Great Gatsby. The only thing gayer than that book is the 2013 movie adaptation.
Harvey Milk is a alum of the University at Albany and they have a building called the Harvey House in his honor where they host LGBT+ events and are now looking into gender-inclusive housing options.
A shout out to Elaine Nobel would have been warranted in this video. She won election as a Massachusetts State Senator as an openly lesbian candidate in 1974 - 3 years before Harvey Milk won his election as a city official.
i mean, idrk if you'd want to, and i know it'd be a lot of work, but: could you do an "are they gay?" video of peggy carter and angie martinelli? We are presenting about heroes in school and a girl in my class got him. I don't think she will do him justice so I'll just be really annoyed the entire time because she won't be able to really tell his story
I would love to see this series continued to talk about events in more recent times, especially up until gay marriage became more widely legalized throughout first world countries throughout the 2010s
Hi, I started watching the videos of your channel and I loved it a lot. I would like you to analyze this couple from the Vikings series, the tension between Athestlan and Ragnar, there is a lot of material. aaand sorry for the bad English 💦
Hey dude! You should totally do “are richie and eddie from it gay?” because there is shed tons of films and a book to get evidence from. pleaseeee. owo. :))
One of the first to gather LGBT People to fight for a common goal while also simultaneously using his white privilege for actual good.. many could learn from him.. I just hope he wasn't assassinated die to his sexuality but I have a feeling that was probably why 😥
Hi I wanted to ask if you could do "Are they gay" with nygmobblepot (from Gotham)? Because their "relationship" is rather complicated. In Gotham Oswald IS IN LOVE with Edward but their "romance" is too complicated. It needs your analysis! Btw love your videos! (っ'-')╮=͟͟͞͞💌
They could legit use your videos in schools
As a college educator, I do.
They this once in my school
I am watching this now for a school project. We are going to write about resistance and people who we look up to.

Wish my school talked about stuff like that

The fact that it was called "save our children" makes me cry.

More proper parole was "Let's destroy our children's lifes"
I just watched the movie Milk before I knew this video was coming out and I cried- it was so wonderful yet heartbreaking. Also I’m glad to be a patron you’re doing a good job man
I know, I've seen it too, sad but great movie
I did a presentation about Harvey Milk for school. He is a really important figure for the LGBTQ community.
"Save our children" ...until some of those children grow up and come out as gay themselves, then you can stop saving them

you should do ineffible husbands from good omens for are they gay? its a very interesting situation...
You guys should do a video on Ineffable Husbands, Good Omens
