You had Athens, Sparta, Ithaca, Macedonia, Crete etc. Sp while one state may be "okay" eith homosexuality, another would might kill you. And in the medieval ages you said that it would also be okay but again, not really. In the medieval ages (along with ancient Greece) it usually wouldn't be an open consenting religion between two adults, it would more often than not be a young pre-teens castrated boy being used by a king, lord, priest etc. For most of history, homosexuality wasn't accepted and if it was, it wouldn't be the same as it is now and there would still be alot of "rules" that would decide if it was okay.
I’m not saying that it was legal, but it went through waves of being tolerated.
In ancient greece it did not matter if you were top or bottom your thinking of rome which is why caesar got memed on for banging a foreign king
10:03 I couldn’t help but notice you didn’t include China in that map....
LGBT people have limited rights in China and are looked down upon a lot in Chinese society, but it’s not illegal to be LGBT in China.
Not being murdered or imprisoned by the state is a start
The Russian revolution during Lenin time also gave rights to the LGBT community decriminalizing homosexuality entirely.
Problem is his successors is hated that idea
Great video Jon. So in depth just like al your other videos. Keep up the good work!
Great video. Cheers

Ha thanks for calling out J.K. Rowling.
why is there an Irish flag at 9:52 ?
Are we a pride flag now?
I think I'm missing something
It’s a picture showing the Marriage Equality Referendum in Ireland.
Thank you, it's an important part of history
the important part of the downfall of humanity that will happen unless the enemies of god are vanquished and sent to hell
@@fleecejohnsonbandit If you're speaking about LGBTQ, most of LGBTQ+ people don't believe in anything.
They must be very delusional to think poorly someone for there Choices
To think a people should oppressed for being themselves the are free beings to do as they want
I live in Malaysia (The countries who have laws against the LGBTQ community there and I am not personally and I am a muslim I on paper I dont support it because its religion and I still believe in it but I know other people in secret must be terrified to confess here
Another great video, thank you John.
Separate note: That building was a fire hazard
True
I have a cousin whos trans and gay and I identify as straight ally.
i was born 5 day before that riot started (june 23 1969)
You might as well do the George Floyd riots.
Rodney King first
Someday, hopefully we learn a little this time
Except no, that's not a historical event.
@@TrocaTheNero It will be in a few months maybe.
I don't know how to feel about the riots because I'm Demisexual (Don't feel sexual attraction to anyone unless I've gotten to know them) which is part of the LGBTQIA+ community, but I also like the police and I'm aware that the police were corrupt back then.
The police are still just as corrupt now
@@Rejoice. Well that’s your opinion and I acknowledge it but I don’t agree with it.
@@zeusthewolfsky While not being true for 100% of police, some are corrupt.

The Manny Man Comes Back!
PatchesRips He’s in the video!
Lesbian trans woman here and I loved this video, great job. It's somewhat depressing though how the same norms that were protested against at the Stonewall Riots are still preventing you from telling the whole story on TH-cam.
What did he not get to tell?
What he depicted here is historically accurate and does not insert fictional activities and myth such as a trans woman throwing the first brick/glass to start it.
The Black Cat Tavern is an LGBT historic site located in the Silver Lake neighborhood of Los Angeles, California. In 1967, it was the site of one of the first demonstrations in the United States protesting police brutality against LGBT people, preceding the Stonewall riots by over two years.
So straight people can be fictional villains but gay people can’t? And don’t get any ideas about me as I support gay marriage and rights as much as anyone.
What’s funny is that there’s nothing is that comment has nothing to do with anything in this video, meaning that was already on your mind before watching this video. Btw history isn’t “fictional”. Btw btw ofc gay ppl can be villains just look at Jeffery Dahlmer but the sad truth is most gay people accept straights while most straights don’t accept gays.
@@drelezar7745 In you're dreams, pal. Quit speculating. Ever read my username? It actually get's on my nerves that people don't seem to show the same active disapproval on homosexual executions (that still go on every single day in some parts of the world), as they do on let's say isolated racist acts. All I didn't appreciate in this video was the level of political correctness.
What is a woman?
Trans woman also have a female brain, do some research if you are going to comment on a topic.

@@euskara2068 So do I.
I mean, gay people shouldn't have had to riot for humans rights that they should have had in the first place.
But that's what happens under rampid homophobia
@@M_W_L_F yeah but since homophobia is a thing, I’m glad they did happen because someone actually did something about it.
1969. Nice one LGBT community. Unfortunately TH-cam sensors gay content creators so this video won’t receive many views.
Good
10:03 North Korea
I don’t think so
Homosexuality and trans people are legal in North Korea, but there are still problems since most of the population has conservative views.
@@sgs3054 actually, there is a law where you cannot openly show your sexual orientation, which includes straight people aswell.
SGS I am sorry are you telling me NK was more ok with the LGBTQ community before the US?
@@DocLeQuack In the sense that it was "technically" legal, but the state still persecuted people who didn't align with the N.Korean way of life.
It's funny because many communist countries decriminalised homosexuality, since the only argument against it was based in religion (they were atheist).
