    Imagine how secure you have to be about your sexuality to be the one straight man in the Village People.

    I was a member of the Society for Individual Rights, a pre-Stonewall organization in San Francisco. The SIR Center had meetings, dances, and other events in their second floor location on S 6th Street. They also published Vector, a magazine with a gay model on the cover and in the center spread.

      I got two of my first jobs in San Francisco through SIR. Since I was rejected by Selective Service, it was very difficult to find a job, if you were an out Gay man.

      LittleBilly_169 ancap you can’t create a definition saying what is and isn’t necessary. im just saying its sad we never even touch the topic of gay rights in school.

    • @LoveRegi00
      @LoveRegi00 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @LittleBilly_169 ancap What are you talking about? LGBTQ+ History Month is in October in the States and Canada and February in the UK. Besides that, you're telling me that it can't be focused on during history class or another social science class? It's history. People were treated like shit and/or killed (still are).www.cnn.com/2018/07/14/asia/indonesia-banda-aceh-public-flogging-intl/index.html thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/427247-iran-publicly-hangs-man-found-guilty-of-homosexuality-charges
      The point of history is for people to learn from it and not repeat.

    Hey Alex (and Brian!) my Spanish teacher and I have been arguing for almost a week now over the way Jk Rowling made Dumbldor gay after releasing the books. I said it’s a grab for “wokeness” points but he says it’s subtextual and doesn’t need to be explicitly stated to be considered representation. I tried to argue that “non explicit representation” is often just queerbait but he said (and I quote) “your generation wants everything to be explicate and out but not everyone is out. Just because your undeveloped teenage mind- “ (and that’s where he got cut off by everyone’s ooohhhhhs.) I just think you can’t say you are an ally if you waited until there was no chance of financial or other backlash to claim a character is gay. The books were already released. Also he tried to argue that there was no reason for them to mention anyone’s sexuality but when I responded then why are all the other characters explicitly in only heterosexual relationships he didn’t have a response other than they ~could~ be bi. (Which brings me back to queerbait and how queer interpretations are dismissed. I’m sure if I tried to argue Drarry he dismiss it just as he would if I argued dumbldor is gay if she hadn’t made that statement.) anyway I was wondering if I could get your opinion on the whole “Dumbldor is gay” thing especially with the new movies director saying he’s not going to make Dumbldor “explicitly gay”.
    (Also anyone else that read this and has an opinion.)
    ((Sorry this is so long. I really like debating and I wrote a four page argument against him on Monday instead of studying for math.))

    • @Sylvyi
      @Sylvyi 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      JK Rowling published Harry Potter years ago though, when there was absolutely no LGBTQ representation in children's books. There's no way it could've been published if she'd made him explicitly gay.

    • @oof-rr5nf
      @oof-rr5nf 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@Sylvyi Good point. But she was so famous and powerful already. Maybe she could've pushed for if she actually wanted to. Anyway, I for one am mostly disgruntled by her hogging credit for representation she did not show in her work itself, and the refusal of the franchise to really get into the romantic aspect of the history between Dumbledore and Grindle-whatever, even when now be an apt opportunity to do so.

    When I first got to NYC in 75 I was 18 and went to some meetings of the Gay Activists Alliance as it was still around. Thank you for promoting the remembrance of our LGBTQ history! I believe that it is very important that it doesn't get lost as those of us who lived it get older and pass. People think that everything is online these days, but this type of info is only there if people put it there! I was a teen in Syracuse and was out in the bars since 15-16. I just tried to look up some of that history and it was pretty sparse!

    Well I've heard that the difference between "transsexual" & "transvestite" would equate roughly to "truscum"/"transmedicalist" & "tucute"/"transgender" today. However cross dressers were also known as "transvestites" since so much of the early movement depended on perception/attribution & actions that invoke those. So to that degree that is true.

    Video idea suggestion:
    I don’t know how familiar you are with Greek mythology, but I’ve been taking a class in it in Uni and would love you do a video on Achilles and Patroclus!
    I think they’re gay af, but many historians think they’re straight. Almost all the OG ppl who wrote the myths reference Achilles and Patroclus as lovers but again, historians are like “just dude being bros”

Like there’s this one part at the end of the greed island arc where biscy asks what gon will do when he finds his father ging, and gon says that that he’s going to introduce gon to killua because he’s his “best friend” and killua starts blushing and it’s adorable.

    Great job on this, but at 3:46 you mention 'churches' but instead flash up a picture of a synagogue, a Jewish place of worship. I would really appreciate if for the future you could be more inclusive to the non-Christians among us and use 'places of worship' or some other catch-all term, especially if you're going to accompany the use of 'church' with a very Jewish image - that's just anachronistic.

    I appreciate your videos and the history they attempt to teach, but I can't help but notice they fall victim to the same erasure and minimalization of the contributions of bisexual activists. You mentioned the Kinsey report but failed to mention that Kinsey was a bisexual. You credit Rodwell with the conception AND organization of the first Pride March when it was Brenda Howard, a grassroots organizer and bisexual woman, who is literally known as the "Mother of Pride". I understand that it is difficult to find information about bisexual contributions to LGBTQIA history because so many of the books and media written exclude them or change them to simply gay/lesbian but it is vitally important that we dig deeper into these stories and make sure we are not inadvertantly contributing to the erasure and suppression of those in our community. BiNetUSA is an excellent resource for bi history and you can always reach out to me through the group I run, Seattle Bisexual+. I have been an activist for many years and my work is largely focused around education and teaching of LGBTQIA+ history. Thank you for these videos they are an excellent start to changing how our community remembers it's heroes.
