The Volvo is definitely the better of the two, with a 2-litre turbo engine that combines with an electric motor, it can put down 405hp and 675Nm of torque! As for the old school, we have the BMW X3 M40i! With its straight-six 3-litre turbo, it can produce 354hp and 500Nm of torque! So will the newer hybrids have what it takes to bring down the M40i? Just got the BMW X3 M40i and it is absolutely SPECTACULAR! It's like driving a sports car, but it's an SUV. Not to mention that it is absolutely gorgeous inside and out. It beats these overpriced electric vehicles in every way.
Got mine today. Sold my Z4. Very excited about a Suv with the same amazing engine
I am sure you enjoying it, I got mine on Wednesday and absolutely loving it . I love driving in comfort mode so far but last night I tried sports mode first time in outer London and absolutely loved it, the sound from exhaust, suspensions, handling and drive absolutely amazing, it felt like I am in some sort of supersonic jet :)
Polestar was ahead most of the time in rolling race so he won 1 point but when bmw was ahead most of the time you gave it to Audi. What is this logic Matt??

I’ve been looking at selling my baby, 2008 BMW 135i and getting an X3 M40i. This helps make a tough decision slightly easier.

They use that criteria to simulate moving ahead of someone on the road before going too far above the speed limit
In their rolling race it definitely matters most who picks up initially on the start. They don’t do it to a quarter mile marker, though it looks like they went longer than a quarter here anyway

my daily is this X3 I love the beast, having had all sorts of cars over the years- I test drove this in September 2018 it's an amazing creation! get to swap the PCP in April, just buy the same again but 2/3 years newer! it's a great tourer too

For those who want to buy the M40i. Make sure to buy the one with 360hp, built before 2019. It doesn't have a OPF and sounds very more aggressive

Volvo safety is a myth that was related to old ones, nowadays all modern manufacturers are very close, even more, if you take a look at EURO NCAP tests many cars are much safer than Volvos.
@@jaymaster103 that slow car beat the BMW in what was essentially a real world test. BMW only came past at about 120mph which you cannot do in the UK or most countries in the world. So Volvo won the most relevant real world test.

The X3 M40i flies and I was surprised to see it beat out the hybrid cars in this test. Sport Plus mode is an absolutely insane and it's still down over 100hp from the X3M. Love the X3 as a daily driver especially with the adaptive suspension. Does everything perfect except wish I could figure out how to disable start stop in comfort mode 2ithout having to push the button everytime...😣
The X3 M40i is just such a good car, really subtle and unexpected but also sounds really good.

The electric power wasn’t used in the drag race for the Audi. When you use the launch control it only uses the combustion engine. This is why it got off the line so slowly

My expectations were that the two hybrids would get off the line faster than the X3 and then the X3 would get them by the end of the 1/4 mile

I have an m40i and I am telling you it's a beast. There was no reason to get the much more expensive x3m. bmw is definitely underrating the power on this car. They say that it dyno's at around 450hp.
Mines 500, I put a air filter on it and it made 600.

In the second test i finnished first, because u were the one who was counting thus pushing pedal a little bit sooner than everybody else and because of that gaining advantage. For more more accuaracy i sugest using synchronized wristwatches and push pedals and the same second
That's so funny! I currently have the Q5 55 TFSI E and am about to buy the X3 M40i and on the second test, when the BMW was catching up to the Volvo, I found myself loudly cheering for the X3 when watching the video :D
They both get beat hands down by the MY23 XC60 - upgraded to 456Hp / 709 Nm and shed 70kgs - 0-60 4.5 (1/2 sec faster than the model in the video) 1/4 mile in 13.1 sec.

The Polestar XC60 is speed limited by Volvo for safety.
As for the stopping test, it wasn't clear to me that you pressed the pedal sufficiently to engage the ABS, which would have made for the fastest braking.

Believe it or not, until very recently "quattro" was equivalent to amg and m. Rs used to be a product of Quattro gmbh, a division of audi. Now that company is called audi sport gmbh. Yes, quattro used to only mean audi's locking center diff awd system.

Northstar: When you pay more and get less in return :-D - Actually the Volvo didn`t win one test if they would not gift the first rolling race afterward for "leading most of the time" :-D - I will use that "leading most of the time" next opportunity we do SIM Racing here.
It was a ROLLING RACE not a top speed test so yes the Volvo won. Otherwise they could just drive forever until the car with the highest top speed comes past. Have you ever seen a carwow race before? That is almost always how they decide the winner, on initial kickdown and how well it stays in the lead.

Speed limit in most countries are topped at about 80mph so unless you're on an autobahn, it doesn't matter. You will never travel at 120mph, legally anyway.
Wish we could have seen U.S spec 2020 X3 M40i with 382HP. Have not seen an official 0 to 60 or quarter mile. Bet it could touch 3.9 to 60 an 12.9 quarter mile. Seen some really fast times with that powertrain in the M340i Sedan and Wagon
