TheStraightPipes definitely a touch expensive, but then again I kinda get it. With that said I don’t like the way the AWD system works. I’m sure it is to help save on weight etc but still... really don’t like that it’s not real full-time AWD.
Love your reviews!! However, as a Swede, I always get quite annoyed when you review Volvos. Even though I agree with you that the Sensus Infotainment can be sluggish and not especially user-friendly in some ways. The time you says it takes to start-up seems a bit unfair without mentioning the fact that most of the settings are configured to your own personal key. Within the driver profiles things like whether you'd like heated seats and steering wheel turned on (under 10 degrees celsius) automatically, different Spotify accounts to the built-in Spotify app, different favourites for the radio app, personalized home screen layouts (all of the three main menu's), the temperature and climate control, themes, seat settings, and so on are saved automatically to the key. Here are some other features that I find interesting that may already know but that I've never heard you mention. (Not sure if they only are available in Sweden/Europe). 1. You never have you turn off a Volvo, take off your seatbelt and open the door and it turns off. 2. There's a sign that says slippery in the instrument cluster when another Volvo recently has lost traction in that area. 3. They show not only the current speed limit but also the upcoming speed limit. 4. You get a visual and noise warning when you approach a speed camera. 5. The speed limiter (click to the left on the cruise control keypad on the steering wheel) adjusts itself to the current speed limit. 6. The Volvo on call features: preheating, Remote engine start-up, Sending destinations to the car and so on. 7. Dimmable interior lights (hold the button). 8. The e-brake is 100% automatic. Engages when you turn off the car and disengages when you put the car in D/R and press the gas pedal. 9. Text messages from your phone are shown directly in the instrument cluster, and you can choose to answer it directly using your voice (actually works). 10. A small detail Yuri might like. If the music is really loud before answering a phone call, the car slowly increases the volume to what it was before the incoming call. 11. By connecting a USB, you can watch movies in the infotainment when the car is parked (super nice to put some top gear on while waiting for someone) 12. When connecting a trailer, the car will ask you in the instrument cluster if you would like to check the trailer's light. By clicking yes, the car starts a sequence testing all the lights by the time you have stepped out of the car and walked to behind the trailer. Ps. google translate pronounces öhlins almost entirely correct. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for the insight. Very informative. Personally, i feel most people dont understand that while Volvo wanna give you that option from the german rivals, volvo still remains swede and is different and they're not trying to be like the germans. Their tech approach and philosophy is also different and mainly focuses on practicality, comfort and safety. Like they say, volvos aren't cars to look down on others, but to drive. Ao yeah I also dont like this review
I currently drive the Volvo XC60 T8 Inscription . In my opinion the pricing in North America is too much. But here in Finland the tax for T8 is so low that it’s almost cheaper to buy the most expensive line-up. For example you pay for the T6 over 20k in taxes vs only 2k for T8. Because the car is plug-in hybrid you can get very low consumption if you charge it every night. During summer I managed 3,5l /100km with city and countryroads. I think that number is excellent for the size and the horsepower. I just don’t think the polestar model is worth the extra money because it’s just a r-design with small quirks.
Correct, and the "i" in Öhrlins is not like "I (am)" but more like a longer version of the "i" in "Yuri", "Yurii" kind of... Volvo is from my hometown of Gothenburg, btw.
You guys certainly have this style of creation down to a science. My children and I watch your videos and really enjoy the fun you put into reviewing cars. Keep up the great work.
I agree. In my opinion they are entertaining to watch because of their chemistry together. Kind of like the guys from Impractical Jokers. I wonder if they were childhood friends.
They just want to increase watch trough times and try out different things like this pre-intro. After gathering some data they will know if it works and to keep it or nah.

Me too. I bet they have some more material on the cutting floor they could just slap at the end, like more rolling shots and launches, or donuts, jetskies and bunnys. But if you want longer car reviews then I suggest you head over to savagegeese, he is amazing.
A little insider Volvo sales tip: You are right, all T8 models are overpriced (dealers know this because of how long it takes to get rid of the darn things, even though they are truly amazing vehicles), BUT if u go in armed with this information, knowing that dealers are dying to get rid of them and only get them because Volvo requires dealers to have them available in inventory, and if u go at the end of the month, and even better at the end of the year, after government incentives, I've sold my share of T8's at the same or nearly the price of a equally equiped T6! Add to this their lifetime parts and labor warranty on all 2019 and newer models and you've got yourself a hell of a value in a truly exceptional vehicle! (If you have to replace anything after the factory warranty is over, and even that is pretty good for a luxury brand: 4yrs/50k miles, then you only have to replace it once, at a Volvo dealer off course, and if that part ever fails again, Volvo will replace it and install it with OEM parts at no cost!) Eat that BMW and Mercedes! So buying and keeping a new Volvo can be quite a value most people miss, apart from having a great vehicle that is not as common as everything else!
I live in the US and I bought the xc60 inscription T8 version, fully loaded (car seat, BW speakers, air suspension). I picked up the car from Sweden via Volvo' OSD program so Volvo covered airfare for two from the US to Sweden and a bunch of other costs, in additional to their 20% discount of the MSRP. So I got this car for 73k our of door (including all the fees, could have been 84k if I picked up in the states), which comes with a HOV sticker, and almost 8000 dollars rebate/tax credit. I used to spend 150 bucks on gas monthly now I only spend 30. GLC has hybrid but it looks ugly as hell IMO. If one cares abt the environment, wanna save some money/time on commute, and don't wanna drive BBA like the others, look no further, Volvo is the car for you.
The thing about the price is that here in Sweden they introduced a taxing system called bonus malus, which meant that hybrids and fully electric cars got a lowered tax than earlier, while cars driven on fossil fuels got a raised tax. This combined with our super high gas prices means that it can be cheaper to own a plug-in hybrid as long as you live close enough to your workplace. If you can get to work, then charge, and get home purely on electricity you basically drive for free, and if you need to travel longer distances or tow you still have the gas engine.
I love the new "intuitive test". I think manufacturers should use that as a measure especially now that so much of the tech becomes increasingly complicated to get to.
I love my Volvo XC40 Momentum, probably the cheapest Volvo you can buy. I agree the infotainment startup seems slow but, for me, it's the most comfortable car to drive I've ever owned (I'm obviously not rich).
Great review guys. FYI, In constant AWD mode, the ECU cuts power to the ICE to match the same power of the electric motors so power is exactly 50/50 between front/rear.
Dear Mr UPSman, in the video it was clearly stated, that the viewer is supposed to „Leave a comment below, which version of that he said correctly. Just write it.“ I believe that is what I just did. But thanks for taking the award for the worlds biggest buzzkill from us Germans. (Also, the German pronunciation of Asian car brands is mostly on point.)
You guys just got an amazing shoutout from Life of Palos for this review in particular, and your channel in general. Apparently he's been binging your content for the past few days, and says you "are literally one of the best review channels (he's) ever seen"!
You can't usually combine hp from ic engines and electric ones because they drive the same wheels. But in this case the electric motor only drives the rear wheels and can supply all of it's power when you floor it.
finally subscribed. Sorry it took so long. TH-cam on a smart tv doesnt give you the option and i only just now bothered to log into my computer and finally hit the button. Been watching for over a year though. I know you guys dont have the cars long but i would really appreciate more shots of the interior at night. Even if you cant film at night, pull into a drive through car wash or a tunnel. Ambient light is so ignored in car journalism today
Also - While I don't know about the Polestar Engineered 2020 version, I do have a 2019 Momentum XC60 and the Apple CarPlay/Android Auto USB port is in the central armrest which causes me to leave the phone in there, close it and keep the phone out of reach. While I sometimes think it's inconvenient, I think it's a safe place for it and I like that I don't have cords hanging all around the cabin :)
don't get me wrong, if you are going to stick with this teaser type intros, you should put the og intro (ie. "i'm yuri, i'm and we're going for a drive") first then the teaser thingy, then continue with the video. just a suggestion. love the work you're doing!

I feel you, my first car was a Volkswagen Polo 1.2 3 cyl naturally aspirated with a whopping 60hp (when it was new, mine probably had less), it struggled to go uphill if you had more than 1 passenger.
As an avid American environmentalist viewer I would like to hear more about this 'green plate' thing you Canadians have. That aside, this review was amazing. Thanks for the honesty at the end about which trim level would be a better fit for 'more' of us viewers
You get to drive in the high occupancy vehicle lane (need 2 people in a gas car) by yourself if you have green plates (only for plug in hybrid or full electric, not conventional hybrid)
Best intro I've seen you guys do so far, at least in terms of being informative. Should start all your video's with fun snip-bits of what you'll be discussing!
What is the difference between Polestar Engineered and getting the Polestar Performance upgrade for an XC60 T6 Inscription? Is it simply that you don't get the Ohlins suspension and brakes?
I have the 2018 XC60 T8 R-Design. After two years of ownership, I can honestly say that I am glad that I leased instead of buying it. I like the car a lot for its great quality, and interior refinement, but I think Volvo still has a ways to go in terms of getting the Gas engine and Electric rear motor to work in harmony. The power delivery is so odd and un-natural same with the breaks. When my lease is up in 2021, I will be looking for a full electric car as my daily driver.
How do you feel today about your 2018 XC60 T8 now in 2024? Do you still have the same opinion? Have you left the Volvo brand? I was about to pull the trigger on a 2018 XC60 T8 Rdesign
This is actually squarely aimed at the SQ5, quoted from Volvo. It’s pretty much fully loaded, the only option being the rims. A fully loaded SQ5 actually costs a little bit more, this is quicker, and electric so it’s kind of a win win. Especially for exclusivity. And considering it’s aimed at the SQ5, it’s also more in line and comparable with a X3M40 and GLC43. Definitely not full blown X3M or GLC63!
You guys correctly hit on the electricity bit, but failed to address the obvious next question. Assuming plug-in hybrid bit is the most important, how much more would you pay for this as compared to a Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV? I’m guessing a little bit, but what would your dollar value be? Almost certainly not CAD 40k, right?
As a person who works for a Volvo Retailer, yes, it's too expensive. But just be thankful, in Denmark this one starts at 148.734 USD, so for you guys, it's a steal :)
Polestar is not an off-brand, it's the AMG division of Volvo, but recently they've decided to become their "own" brand to focus on performance and hybrid vehicles.
I have to comment about the gear selector and the paddle shifts. There is no manual mode anymore, so you can't move the gear selector over to the left and just control the gears via the paddles. The paddles still exist which is good, but then they time out after 6 seconds and revert back to auto. Also, in some T8 R Design models, the individual drive mode has gone, which means you can't set the car up to suit your driving style anymore. HP and Tq is good, but give the driver back some of the options that have been taken away.
It does have a launch control. Set the dsc to sport. On polestar mode, depress the brake and then the gas all the way down and let go the brake. It will launch
Worked at a carwash and putting this car in neutral and turning off the car is a pain in the ass because it goes straight to park. Takes a bit to make it stay in neutral while it's off.
Polestar engineered would mean alot more, if the base of that expression meant for example a V6 or something! Give the people what they want with performance packages!
What do you think of the XC60 T8 Polestar Engineered? Is it too expensive or just right?
TheStraightPipes I think it’s a great car to represent Sweden properly.
Maybe it is overpriced, but either way you somehow didn’t manage to pronounce Öhlins right. Good try though!
Just go to Google Translate, type ”Ö” and play the sound and you’re good :)
It's overpriced in canada/usa, but in the Netherlands its ~80k with options and a glc63s is ~140k with options. So here it makes kind of sense to buy.
Review Toyota land cruiser and lexus lx570. They are the luxurious when you talk about SUV in Asia
TheStraightPipes definitely a touch expensive, but then again I kinda get it. With that said I don’t like the way the AWD system works. I’m sure it is to help save on weight etc but still... really don’t like that it’s not real full-time AWD.

Think about the people new to the channel!
what would you rather the xc60 with polestar engineered or xc60 with air suspension and polestar tuned
U guys single handedly made Canada cool 👏👏
Best intro I've seen you guys do so far, at least in terms of being informative.
Should start all your video's with fun snip-bits of what you'll be discussing!
I feel like most of the issues they have with volvos are because they keep driving the wierd T8s instead of T6s which most people are purchasing.
My dad just ordered an xc60 B5 AWD Momentum pro which should be here within the next 3 weeks. Would probably recommend that as its almost the same car
What is the difference between Polestar Engineered and getting the Polestar Performance upgrade for an XC60 T6 Inscription? Is it simply that you don't get the Ohlins suspension and brakes?
Wait did they changed the intro...?!
Every time you guys do a Volvo car review I immediately think to myself, "have I watched this one already?" Not a good sign.
Do a kia k900 vip
10:10. Well that company makes the PCCB for Porsches and Mclaren brakes
Yuri: I'm Yuri
Jacob: I'm Jacob
Volvo: Let's go for a drive.
The timed test to start and drive etc is a great idea!
14:22 “A little tip touch” 😂😂😂 we NEED an “out of context” highlights video to drop 😂😂😂
It’s there any sign of the new design for 2022 same model with polestar ?
As a person who works for a Volvo Retailer, yes, it's too expensive. But just be thankful, in Denmark this one starts at 148.734 USD, so for you guys, it's a steal :)
If I remember correctly, Akibono supplied the brakes for the McLaren P1.
How is that a fail on the visor test? It covers the entire window as designed so shouldn't it pass as that is the purpose of the extending visor?
As soon as they mentioned the dog not getting it’s foot stuck in the back I remembered about Rex. What happened to the Rex Test?
Polestar is not an off-brand, it's the AMG division of Volvo, but recently they've decided to become their "own" brand to focus on performance and hybrid vehicles.
iPhone 11 Pro Max fits PERFECTLY in the cup holder area, FLAT in the tray.
The back wheels are powered by electricity, does that mean if the car is out of battery than it is just a front wheel drive car?
It does have a launch control. Set the dsc to sport. On polestar mode, depress the brake and then the gas all the way down and let go the brake. It will launch
It's not launch control. That's just a brake boost
You know you should do an 80's Camaro review other then that love the video guys
Worked at a carwash and putting this car in neutral and turning off the car is a pain in the ass because it goes straight to park. Takes a bit to make it stay in neutral while it's off.
Great review another very entertaining video. Elluns :)
Polestar engineered would mean alot more, if the base of that expression meant for example a V6 or something! Give the people what they want with performance packages!
