I'm glad Mike Francesa brought up the comparison to A-Rod in 2006. The two are very similar with the exception of Alonso coming through in the big spot in the postseason and A-Rod failing to do so in the couple chances he had in the ALDS that year. Alonso hit .243, a very respectable batting average these days, especially for a power hitter. He also hit 34 home runs and drove in 88 runs. In 2006, A-Rod hit .290, with 35 home runs and 121 RBI. @@barbaracaroll The game was already tied when that happened. Good teams capitalize on mistakes. There was 2 outs and nobody on. The scoreboard flashed a congratulations message to the Red Sox. The situation couldn’t be worse. Wilson might have beat the play at first, Buckner had very bad legs and should have been replaced for defense. The Houston game 7, prior to World Series, the Mets were losing 3 nothing and looked finished. They were being mowed down. They scored 3 runs in the 9th inning and eventually won in the 16th inning when they scored 3 and Houston 2. As far as tension went, it was one of the greatest games ever. 13:37 perfectly said Mike
A walk is worse than a lead off solo home run for the team thats trying to protect a multi-run lead shot because of the walk's potential. Now you have to worry about runners in addition to the batter. Single creates stress and chaos, for pitcher and defense 100% agree All kinds of pressure. Pitchers can shake off home runs especially solo shots cuz the bases are empty. Not the case when you walk the leadoff hitter.

“Nothing in baseball devastates like the 3-run homer.”
I fully agree 100%. Grand slams almost never happen. To get bases loaded at any time.
But 3 run homers completely changed the game in 1 swing. Literally. They are soul crushing.

With all due respect, most relievers pitch from the stretch anyway. I agree that a HR is better than a leadoff walk, nothing worse.
Jomboy showed Williams was tipping his pitches and the Mets recognized it. He is usually so devastating it doesn't matter if you know that changeup is coming, but in this case I definitely think it helped since he got that changeup up a little too much.

But he’s been BRUTAL the last few months and I never thought what happened tonight would happen and I have started second guessing him a bit lately but always knew he was too valuable to take outta the lineup. Now do we resign him? Idk id like to see it. But it needs to be for the right price and the right length. No 6-10 year contracts give him a 3 year with an opt out for 23-25 a season and I think I’ll take it

You have to give Mike credit on two things. First, he remains committed to never admitting to intentionally listening to NY sports talk radio… this time he was just driving his wife in “da cahh” and it happened to be on. And second, he gets to float about Alonzo because he took the same calls about Texiera for years and Mike would not give up on him. Tex never really had his huge postseason moment as a yank. Pete Alonzo did tonight.
