It always amazes me how pitching from the stretch affects the efficacy of so many pitchers. Same thing for the Brewers reliever i the 9th inning. Once he gave up the home-run to Alonzo, he should have been lifted, because he was shaken.
@@barbaracaroll The game was already tied when that happened. Good teams capitalize on mistakes. There was 2 outs and nobody on. The scoreboard flashed a congratulations message to the Red Sox. The situation couldn’t be worse. Wilson might have beat the play at first, Buckner had very bad legs and should have been replaced for defense. The Houston game 7, prior to World Series, the Mets were losing 3 nothing and looked finished. They were being mowed down. They scored 3 runs in the 9th inning and eventually won in the 16th inning when they scored 3 and Houston 2. As far as tension went, it was one of the greatest games ever. I also saw the 1969 World Series. Nobody thought the Mets could win.
The 6th Seed in the National League has gone to the World Series the last 2 Seasons. The Phillies in 2022. The Diamondbacks 2023. Jesse Winker what a hot dog.
13:37 perfectly said Mike A walk is worse than a lead off solo home run for the team thats trying to protect a multi-run lead shot because of the walk's potential. Now you have to worry about runners in addition to the batter. Single creates stress and chaos, for pitcher and defense 100% agree All kinds of pressure. Pitchers can shake off home runs especially solo shots cuz the bases are empty. Not the case when you walk the leadoff hitter.
11:44 “Nothing in baseball devastates like the 3-run homer.” I fully agree 100%. Grand slams almost never happen. To get bases loaded at any time. But 3 run homers completely changed the game in 1 swing. Literally. They are soul crushing. I can think of lots of playoffs homers right off the top of my head: Didi gregorius 2017 alwc Jose Altuve game 5 2017 ws Eddie Rosario game 6 2021 nlcs Yordan alvarez game 1 2022 alds Rhys Hoskins game 2 2022 nlds Bryce Harper game 5 2022 nlcs Yordan Alvarez game 6 2022 WS Jose altuve game 5 2023 alcs Pete alonso game 3 2024 nlwc
Alonso spent the whole season chasing sliders. It was a slow process of giving up on him, plus coping with the feeling that he is going to leave it was easy to not think he wasn't going to come through there. But every single Mets fan is happy not just for us but for him in particular.
11:44 "Nothing in baseball devastates like the 3-run homer." I fully agree 100%. Grand slams almost never happen. To get bases loaded at any time. With all due respect, most relievers pitch from the stretch anyway. I agree that a HR is better than a leadoff walk, nothing worse. Jomboy showed Williams was tipping his pitches and the Mets recognized it. He is usually so devastating it doesn't matter if you know that changeup is coming, but in this case I definitely think it helped since he got that changeup up a little too much.
@@beandumper I know what his point is. But can you say that about the teams that have been in existence for roughly the same amount of time? The Astros, Padres, Expos (Nationals), Diamondbacks, Rockies.
7:54 Mike Francesa doesn't know about the three-batter minimum rule (5.10)? Butto couldn't be removed after the first home run. He was replaced as soon as he faced three batters.
The Mets have become a very dangerous team this post season. Come from behind to beat Atlanta, come from behind to beat Milwaukee. Philly is gonna have their hands full
I never gave up on Pete I always thought he should be in the lineup. I always thought he would get some big hits. But he’s been BRUTAL the last few months and I never thought what happened tonight would happen and I have started second guessing him a bit lately but always knew he was too valuable to take outta the lineup. Now do we resign him? Idk id like to see it. But it needs to be for the right price and the right length. No 6-10 year contracts give him a 3 year with an opt out for 23-25 a season and I think I’ll take it
You have to give Mike credit on two things. First, he remains committed to never admitting to intentionally listening to NY sports talk radio… this time he was just driving his wife in “da cahh” and it happened to be on. And second, he gets to float about Alonzo because he took the same calls about Texiera for years and Mike would not give up on him. Tex never really had his huge postseason moment as a yank. Pete Alonzo did tonight.
If you are a true fan, (me, since 1967) you stick with your team thru high and low. Pete Alonso has been a true Met since the first day. These days many 'fans' are fair weather. LGM!
Mike keeps saying remove the pitcher after a hone run but isn't there a recent rule where the relief pitcher has to face 3 batters ? Maybe I don't have the right understanding of the rule or if it applies in the post season. If somebody knows I would like to know

@@rickjason215 I didn't see 1969 but I would think that couldn't ever be topped it's like the Giants winning super bowl xlii legendary and iconic
I’m so happy for my fellow Mets fans
I never wanted Pete to leave I hope he stays for life
The 6th Seed in the National League has gone to the World Series the last 2 Seasons. The Phillies in 2022. The Diamondbacks 2023. Jesse Winker what a hot dog.
13:37 perfectly said Mike
A walk is worse than a lead off solo home run for the team thats trying to protect a multi-run lead shot because of the walk's potential. Now you have to worry about runners in addition to the batter. Single creates stress and chaos, for pitcher and defense 100% agree All kinds of pressure. Pitchers can shake off home runs especially solo shots cuz the bases are empty. Not the case when you walk the leadoff hitter.

“Nothing in baseball devastates like the 3-run homer.”
I fully agree 100%. Grand slams almost never happen. To get bases loaded at any time.
But 3 run homers completely changed the game in 1 swing. Literally. They are soul crushing.
I can think of lots of playoffs homers right off the top of my head:
Didi gregorius 2017 alwc
Jose Altuve game 5 2017 ws
Eddie Rosario game 6 2021 nlcs
Yordan alvarez game 1 2022 alds
Rhys Hoskins game 2 2022 nlds
Bryce Harper game 5 2022 nlcs
Yordan Alvarez game 6 2022 WS
Jose altuve game 5 2023 alcs
Pete alonso game 3 2024 nlwc
Mike was right, the last 6 outs are the toughest. This time we came out ahead
Alonso spent the whole season chasing sliders. It was a slow process of giving up on him, plus coping with the feeling that he is going to leave it was easy to not think he wasn't going to come through there. But every single Mets fan is happy not just for us but for him in particular.
Jomboy has a video out
The pitcher was tipping his pitches
Alonso knew what was coming
Hats off to the whole team picking up on it.

Pete Alonso is one of the *greatest* Mets players ever. So happy.
Amazing
Team of destiny
With all due respect, most relievers pitch from the stretch anyway. I agree that a HR is better than a leadoff walk, nothing worse.
Jomboy showed Williams was tipping his pitches and the Mets recognized it. He is usually so devastating it doesn't matter if you know that changeup is coming, but in this case I definitely think it helped since he got that changeup up a little too much.
I think we have a great chance of winning the world series
wfan has never been the same since he left miss him and mad dog
Hey Philly, it's a sub, not a hoagie
Its actually a Hero...lol
Mets have had very little other than '69?! Did Francesa have a stroke? and his memories from the mid '80's were wiped out?!
The Mets beat the Cincinnati Reds in five games in 1973 wasn't big? The 1986 WS game six? Robin Ventura's homer? What planet is he on?
2015 run was amazing.
the point is, in 60+ years you can count on your fingers the number of these moments. It's rare. LFGM!
@@beandumper I know what his point is. But can you say that about the teams that have been in existence for roughly the same amount of time? The Astros, Padres, Expos (Nationals), Diamondbacks, Rockies.
Lol 1986 game six? The game they should have lost?
73 WS run came within on game of winning it all
7:54 Mike Francesa doesn't know about the three-batter minimum rule (5.10)? Butto couldn't be removed after the first home run. He was replaced as soon as he faced three batters.
He thinks he's God so whatever he says is true. BTW, I remember him killing Arod when he wasn't hitting. This guy is the biggest narcissist ever
so much more exciting then yankmees
The Mets have become a very dangerous team this post season. Come from behind to beat Atlanta, come from behind to beat Milwaukee. Philly is gonna have their hands full
What a great win!
Yankees are going down vs KC
Bwahahaha and the dodgers are going down to San Diego??? 😂 😆 😝
LGM!
How can you not be romantic about baseball
86 was just as good if not better than 69. Watch the playoffs from those seasons
What about the decision to not go to the 18 horse from Schenectady in the 9th?
Mike keeps saying remove the pitcher after a hone run but isn't there a recent rule where the relief pitcher has to face 3 batters ? Maybe I don't have the right understanding of the rule or if it applies in the post season. If somebody knows I would like to know
Lot of frustration with Alonso this year, especially since he was so epic before, sometimes it’s nice to be proven wrong.
The second page gets written on Sat lgm😊
