The Mets happened. Outplayed them in every aspect. Phillies fell off before the post season.
The problem is all around Baseball. It's the obsession with Slugging, exit velocity & HRs & the acceptance of .220 batting averages. If you rely on low batting averages & power your gonna have very low lows & extreme highs. With Pitching its all about velocity & less focus on ball placement.
Greg Maddox would kill in this MLB. You are exactly right .

I'm a Phillies fan and you are right on the money. Running back the same exact team that lost a 2-0 lead to Arizona with Games 6 and and 7 in their house and Arizona having a bullpen game in Game 4 was a bad omen from the start.
Sadly, they showed who they were in against Houston two years ago when they were no-hit in the World Series. They can hit and pitch like a champion, and then play like a fourth-place team. Sad, but true.

It's past being worrisome. It's straight up fire-able. He sat there with a straight face and twice said "we lost a short series." If it were a 7 game series they'd be down 3-1. Seldom do teams come back from that deficit. He thinks Philly fans are clueless about the game and that he can protect his complacent/babied players with vacant platitudes. That's a middle finger to the Philly fans. Our media needs to give him the real Philly treatment, but since it's not the Eagles where every little thing is made into a catastrophe, Rob is somehow skating by with his nonsense. He did this last year after the Arizona series as well. "That's baseball" was what he said after that epic choke job vs. the DBacks. Then he went and rang the bell at the Sixers game a couple of weeks later as if he was someone anyone cared to see during that time. We don't get pumped up over a squandered 2-0 lead in the NLCS to an 84 win team with Games 6 and 7 at home. We'll see how much Middleton really wants his "effing trophy back" with such an indifferent manager at the helm.

The mistake was pulling Ranger Suarez in the 5th inning. I don't care how many pitches Ranger Suarez has. You are not saving him. It's a win or go home game. He had 8 strikeouts and allowed 0 runs. He was getting it done. He should have stayed in the game until he gave up 2 runs. The bullpen has a double digit ERA this series.
Maybe if I had left him, the bases would probably have been loaded and then he would have been hurt, and the criticism then would be: Why did you let Suarez pitch? The Bullpen was the MAIN problem, not just today, but the ENTIRE series.

@@NicholasRaynes-oe8io Yes, but as I said, he was able to get out of those problems in the first innings, but the pitching that was saving him (the curveball) was already being measured, even if he got out of that inning well, the Bullpen would have made the same mess. In my opinion, it's easier to fire Thompson than to fire almost the entire Phillies roster. He put in the relief pitchers who worked very well in the regular season, but in this series they were a complete disaster. It makes me a little sad for Harper, Castellanos, Wheeler and Suárez.

Mets biggest weakness? Their bullpen. It should have been the Phillies mission to take pitches and make the starter work the counts every single at bat and work the starters out of the game.
Instead 1-3 pitch at bats consistently top to bottom. With the exception of Harper who did the most with what he got every single at bat except one.

I turned it off during the first game when they kept swinging at balls not close to the zone, like they did half the year. As a Mets fan, the Wilpons don't own this team anymore. If the front office of the Mets continues to do what they're doing, they'll be contenders for a long time. playoff games, but don't seem to have the baseball smarts when it comes to hitting. Thompson
should have been all over them all season, yet he didn't seem to have the energy to lay
into these guys and bench them for being such low IQ batters. A low energy manager is
definitely not the right guy to manage this team.
