@@gregpaspatis9425 They "weren't supposed to compete" this year because it was intended to be more of a transition year, and that was because of the poor 2023, and for the first two months, it was looking like it was going to be worse. And then the Dodgers nuclear meltdown happened. I highly suspect that they'd been in a morale malaise because of the Braves ripping the division away from them in 2022. After that Dodgers series, whatever they were going through just seemed to not matter anymore, like they were venting a year+ worth of rage and pain on their opponents. And to cap it off, they send the Braves, broken and beaten (more to do with how they upended them in the first of the double-header), to San Diego, where the Padres clean up what was left of them.

The Mets are crazy. They write late-game dramas every day. Today's comeback scene was the first I've seen in my 45+ years of baseball fandom.
In the top of the 8th, leadoff hitter Alvarez was down 0-2 and hit a single, the next hitter Lindor was down 0-2 and advanced to base with a walk, the next hitter Vientos was down 0-2 and hit a tying RBI, the next hitter Nimmo was down 0-2 and hit a go-ahead RBI, the next hitter Alonso was down 0-2 and hit an additional RBI with a sacrefice fly, the next hitter Iglesias was down 0-2 and hit a single after an 11-pitch battle, and then 2 more runs were added. What a great concentration.

@RJTradess yea and then you same people complain when they end up injured and never throw the same ever again. You have no idea what it's like for a modern pitcher to throw over 100 pitches. This is why this 100-pitch count is stupid. And don't forget what was the primary selling-pitch for pitch count myth - it will keep starters healthy. Guess what, after teams instituted pitch counts starting pitching are having shoulder injuries, Tommy John surgeries at a record rate. 100 pitch-count advocates disassociated themselves from keeping pitchers healthy.
