      Then go to your ancestors, and see what they believed in. I don't know who you were ancestors were, but in the vast Indo-European tree, all the spiritualities resemble each other greatly, with common themes and gods - as Jacob said, it's just names our ancestors gave to whatever the gods really are. For example, there is one sky father. There is not Zeus or Tyr or Rod, those are the interpretations of various cultures.

    Oh my gosh, I yinglet squealed when I saw you picked my question. Thanks for the answer, it helped me out and made me feel better about the path I've chosen for myself and I'm sure it will help others like me. I really like the thought of it being a Healing path too... I think a lot of us need healing and I hope this path lets us do so.
    Also: the first pronunciation is correct. 😸

    I come from a very different type of Pagan religion, but have still enjoyed your videos ever since I discovered your channel because there are some situations which we all encounter along the way. Within my own tradition, I also am mainly interested in the practices of the "common folk," i.e. regular, non-priestly people. I still place a high value on academic sources, however. It's the people who have been trained and educated and have experience in researching the cultural context of the ancient religion I am now doing my best to follow (i.e. academics) who provide the most accurate and helpful information in understanding the beliefs and practices of the ancient forms of my religion. This information allows me to understand why the people who lived this religion did what they did the way that they did, and what their intended purpose was. Even if you're not coming from a reconstructionist approach (as I am), I feel that this kind of information is still important to know when figuring out how to innovate new practices in a respectful way, while preserving the core meaning of the original religion. Thanks for the video! As always, it was interesting and thought-provoking!

    Regarding pagan burnout, I have found that more often than not, it's the other people one has been interacting with, especially on social media/TH-cam, etc, that causes the burnout rather than the path itself that one is on.

    I grew up with my native culture on the rez and I got interested in Paganism later in life. I naturally approach it through the lens of decolonization because of my native values. I don't see it as a religion or spirituality. I just see it as something we do. There is no separation between culture and spiritual culture. We don't even have a name for our "religion" because it's just part of who we are and what we do. When you look at surviving pagan cultures like the Pennsylvania Deutsch, they approach things the same way. Ask a grandma doing granny magic or cunning stuff, and she won't say it's a religion. It's just how they take care of themselves and their farm.

    ANYTHING we dive into head first and become obsessed about will fade. Its a human condition. Learning information, creating, solving exploring new things is ingrained in our dna, nothing to do with paganism. Take it slow, make it apart of your daily/weekly/monthly habits. Give yourself small confirmations that it is who you are. In this modern day(probably not even back then) do we have to obsesse about something and make it soley who we are. Thats asking for failure.

    I stumbled upon you a while back... and also stumbled into the "attack" videos about you. I was disappointed, but also relieved to see that in-group backbiting and drama seems to be in all groups. • @TheWisdomOfOdin
      @TheWisdomOfOdin  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Will be exploring this in upcoming videos!
      Essentially it's the understanding that we as a species need to return to a time before we were "colonized" ie. lost our traditions, cultures, languages etc. to the Empires, kings, and monotheistic world views

    I believe you need to switch out the word 'magic' with 'science', whenever you talk about runes being used, to anything else than just writing.
    ..and just have in mind, that even today, you cannot prove anything unless it is documented or witnessed by someone trustworthy. And even then, it is best to be written down.
    So I think Odin learned runes to write down his wisdom (scientific findings or magic if you will) so that it was to be preserved through time

    Regarding runes... you're right that they were a system for writing... an alphabet. Is there a little physical evidence of people writing charms and such? Yes (I think mostly post-christianization? Those I remember call upon Jesus and Mary in addition to the Norse gods which is understandable for common folk during christianization). But in the end it's a primitive alphabet. Just like the any other alphabet is used to write anything. But of course you can try and combine those runes (letters, etc) to form something magical. But to the person (or people) wondering about runes and magic... just read more. Really... that's not a jab or anything. Delve into history and archeology as those are the only ways we know about these things in the first place (unless, I suppose, you're someone who grew up in an isolated community or family whose current non-christian beliefs reach back as far as stories and memories go... in which case you probably wouldn't be asking the question).
