      I spent eight years in the service and was introduced to Odin by a friend who noticed i was having a difficult time with PTSD and suicidal thou8ghts. It has changed my life. I was raised Christian but it just didn't resonate. As a soldier the Norse way just made more sense to me.

    I was 18 and an Athiest when I joined the Army in January. I went to a Norse Pagan church service during Basic Training and truly began learning about the gods. At my two lowest points in training, I prayed to Tyr to help me through them, and both times he came through for me. Since then, I've proudly worn a Mjölnir around my neck and happily answer people's questions about paganism, and I'm pretty sure I shattered a lot of people's expectations about what pagans are actually like. I swore to Tyr that I'd devout my life to him and I plan to try and establish more Norse Pagan services in the Army as the one that I attended in Basic was the only one in the entire Army.

    I am offering an addendum to Loki, having communicated with him extensively in the past: he is a trickster, not so much a god of chaos exactly. Loki teaches lessons that may seem harsh, but ultimately good for you to grow as an individual. He can and will absolutely remove an obstacle to personal growth by force if he needs to, and let you flounder a little while before helping you out with a cheeky "I told you so" attitude. He has special interest in those that feel they don't fit into rigid gender roles or a binary, or people who feel ostracized from society in general.
    Walking Loki's path is full of stones and logs that he placed there himself just to see if you're paying attention, but in my experience he's always been there to pick you up and dust you off so you can continue on your journey. He's absolutely not for everyone though.

    I remember when i had a huge moment when i was in iraq. My platoon was leaving a house after a raid and something caught the corner of my eye. I turned to look and seen an old man in a gray cloak. I started to approach him with my weapon drawn shouting my commands to get down. He smiled at me and disappeared. I remember his hair covered his right eye. I thought the heat was getting to me so i turned to walk away as i was pulling rear security.
    I left the house and got in my hmmwv and started to leave then the house explodes. I ducked down on my turret mounted .50 cal. I swear i seen a black bird fly from the explosion. I never put it together till i listened to the calling i felt in the essence of my everything. Lol. But i raise my axe to Odin, Tyr, Hiemdall, Loki, etc. They've always been with us. I give Thanks for them for helping me recognize the path. I now live for them and hope that i will honor them in all aspects of my life.

      , focus on breath; then on body; then, focus on the sounds of nature. Its an incredible way to communicate with gods/spirits/ancestors. And even if the gods don't want to speak for a reason, you can always find peace within yourself. Its a gift of nature. Use it when needed :-D

And when I first started this path, I respectfully asked the god Þor to show me a sign if the gods really were there, and not 3 minutes later on a crystal clear night, thunder began to rumble and it down poured.

      Jayden Becker I’m assuming you’re folkish? yeah. because quite frankly that’s an ignorant response. i didn’t think the Gods care about the color of my skin, or my ancestry. BUT I will say this, because in three words: I FELT CONNECTED. Something you Folkish believers fail to understand. This isn’t just some religion. It’s a spirituality, a mindset, a way of life. I grew up a warrior all my life and had to fight all my life even against impossible odds. The Æsir embodies that belief. Plain and simple.

    29, and I came to this one year ago. However, I was raised Catholic, always questioned the big things, and never felt a true connection within that religion it was always like it kept me at arm's length. Something happened two years ago and I felt that door close for good, what called me out of a really dark place was a kindly old man with a lantern in a dream and said seek the hills, the mountains, and the forests, and the rivers for they know more than any old book. I started a journey and due to my transition I do hail Loki a bit more than I should but, Odin, Tyr, and Thor are my chosen. It was almost an automatic connection the first real-time I tried to commune with them. I used a technique from Wicca which was basically grounding - which I know is not just something tied to Wicca. However, since then I have worn my Mjolnir with pride around my neck and felt their presence when called. Thank you brother for this content, if your ever in need of a writer, would love to give back to a community I am thoroughly enjoying.

    I feel like the patron god could be a feeling from monotheistic religions, where there's only one god to consider. Conversely, it's also like a group of friends. In your case Odin had found you first, invited you to the party, and now you're learning about and making friends with his friends and family. Like what you said about favoring one god, Odin, but acknowledging and respecting the rest of them. Personally I grew up being used as a guard by my terrible friends, and with that I do have a sense of connection with Heimdall, who watches over the Bifrost and warns of an invasion.

    • @RebelWvlf
      @RebelWvlf 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Actually the "patron god" idea is way older than monotheist religion. For an instance, there are written records of certain gods of Egyptian pantheon being patrons/matrons of certain cities (Bast being matron of Bubastis, Ra being patron of city of On, etc), while other gods were praised on lesser degree. Modern pagans just revived that idea.

    • @asherdevin
      @asherdevin 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RebelWvlf In the case of Egypt, I thought that was because it was believed that said god lives there. That's how I always interpreted it anyways. And I want to say it was similar for the Greeks, where the Spartans were blessed by Aries while the Athenians were blessed by Athena and so on. Again, I could totally be wrong on that. History isn't my strong suit, but that's how I interpreted those situations. I feel like these are 2 different scenarios. For Egypt that city is blessed and protected by that god, where as for us it's picking a god we like or associate with more. We don't have a "city of Thor" or "city of Odin" do we? Just that we worship the gods, such as Odin and Thor, and some of us favor one god over another.

    • @oneeyedwilly8139
      @oneeyedwilly8139 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@@asherdevin I believe Rebelwulf is actually correct, during ancient times, people would have believed in the existence of various gods but there were those who are devotees of specific gods. Myself I seem to go through phases, right now Freyr has been a major part of my spiritual focus. I very much recommend getting to know Freyr, you really can't go wrong with him. Odin is an enigma, but Freyr is always very straight forward, positive energy and vitality. Heimdallr really is an immense and powerful god as well.

    • @asherdevin
      @asherdevin 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@oneeyedwilly8139 I guess you would have to have a city and god known for the same thing. Whether that deity blessed that city with great smiths, or smiths flocked there to hone their skills and thus became a smithing god's home, I don't know. I'm just trying to figure out how you would get a whole city to worship a particular god over the rest. Also I like Freyr, but I have trouble connecting with him because I lack hunting and survival skills. Certainly not a god to scoff at though. I was a body guard for those people though, which gives me a sense of kinship with Heimdallr. I've also had a lot of rage, so I can connect with Thor on that level. I've had an inclination towards magic so I can relate to Odin and Freya. But sadly hunting, farming and wilderness aren't my forté. I plan on working on it soon enough but I have plenty on my plate as is.

    • @joannajett2524
      @joannajett2524 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's interesting, you're not the first one I've seen make this correlation, but I used to feel the exact opposite way. I used to refuse to have a matron or patron, because it felt too polytheistic to me. I saw the Gods as facets of God/the Divine (I come from Catholicism and slowly transitionned to Paganism), and "electing" one of them as my patron felt like something a hard polytheist would do, as opposed to a soft polytheist. Because if the Gods were "just" different aspect of the same being, how could one of them be my patron?

    As a practitioner of witchcraft I've been stumbling, feeling calls from all sort of pantheons. I recognize all the pantheons and gods, and feeling a calling from each one is very confusing. Which one do I follow? Do I follow all or none? What is my heart and gut telling me?
    Recently the Norse has been calling louder and louder, even though I work with The Morrighan (Irish), and Hades & Zeus. I've consulted each, and they agreed that they wouldn't be angry if I pledged my loyalty to the Norse Pantheon, as I was previously thinking I was a Hellenic Pagan.
    2020 has been a really rough year, but as the year grows to a close, I feel more at home than ever before. Even though that I still am growing and young, I feel safe, comforted in the fact that this was my calling and I was choosen to walk this path. Even now I write this with a smile. Your videos have given me the strength to reach out, research all the pantheons I was getting a calling from before choosing. I want to thank you, because I don't think I would have gotten out of the confusion.
    Thank you, and may the gods light your way. Blessed Be.

    It wasn’t untill I was early 30s before I felt this . It’s because being a Christian we were told to never think outside that box - and so we don’t .
    We feel wrong for doing it- as if we’re going against god. But I learned that’s the exact problem is it doesn’t let us think for ourselves. Once we think for “ourselves “‘then do what you FEEL is right . Not TOLD - but FEEL. And if it FEELS right then that tells you that someone isn’t making you feel it . It’s yourself that is . That’s what happened to myself and it has FELT right ever since and still going !

    Thank you for answering questions.
    Ok note as i was watching this , I chose loki as my patron and i smiled when you said dangerous path. I told him i would love you as my patron. Here my reason why :
    He my opposite and i desire change , deep inner transformation. To not break under chaos , to laugh and not be stiff. To have someone shake my world if am growing too stagnant , to loose what no longer serves me , to be refined , mold. For once be the metal being bent and shaped. To be pushed , to have the soap box kicked out from out under feet. To learn to stumbled thru life laughing and to step outside of my comfort zone. To always go thru change. To see the bitter ugly truth of my self as much as i would like to be not too serious.
    Still thank you.

    I can proudly say, as of yesterday, I am no longer Christian, and I have started following my TRUE path. In fact, I am norwegian, and I live literally next to viking burial grounds. I can feel that this is the true path for me in my heart

    I’m disabled and mentally ill and I’ve felt a calling to the gods (although haven’t always been sure which ones) since I have been little and also nature. It’s hard being disabled and pagan because I can’t always give offerings or go into nature because I have to do so much just to keep myself alive. This video is really helpful for giving me alternatives that don’t take as much energy and are easier to do when you don’t have the resources!
