  • In this very long tutorial, I explain how to use the Particle Playground effect in Adobe After Effects. I'll also show you how to simulate a flock of birds dynamically flying across your comp.

    This video deserves a lot of appreciation and really this is a very very cool effect. Never paid attention to this effect before and didn't think it was this powerful. Thanks for sharing this Jake, you are a great teacher and this series is worthless and one of the foundations no one thought of before to teach. This is a great support to this community.

    Thank you so much for creating this video. I have been trying to make this work for some time now. This video will make it so much faster to get to a final effect. BTW, I loved how you used the Shift Channels fx to create a source for the Persistent and Ephemeral Property Mappers. Great job, I'll be replaying this a lot. Have a great day!

    Very inspiring use of this effect. Does anyone know how to control this effect to tell it to produce new 'particles' in front of older 'particles'? As default it seems to produce new behind the old.
    Thanks!

    Thank you for this! I was trying to make a plane with a smoke trail and ended up here, should I use the technique at 5:23 to accomplish this? I have rotated it so it's horizontal and as a result it doesn't follow the position of the item it want it to correctly.

    Do you think that Particular already have all of the possibilities that Playground have? And incase I have Particular would you suggest to invest more time into it instead of Playground?

    • @JakeInMotion
      @JakeInMotion  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Particular is a 3d particle emitter, particle playground is only 2d. Particular is definitely more capable than CC Particle World (also 3d), so it's definitely worth knowing if you already have access to it.

    Sorry if I'm being rush, i just know blender more than average, and there is all that better defined in 2013, than in after effect 2024. Only rare people look 3d ap for 2d result. Meaning, after effect is really ore powerful in other stuff. Good for real beginners in particle settings.

  • @xanderholland6086

    I tried using the wall feature, but my particles only generate in the mask rather than bounce off of it.

      I'm not positive, but try inverting the mask type. So if it's set to add, change it to subtract. Sorry I'm not at my computer to check.

    JAKE!
    Just yesterday I was trying to make a dynamic background where a grid of squares dynamically responded to a gradient controller. Following these two tutorials (th-cam.com/video/1UaZNcVobhg/w-d-xo.html and th-cam.com/video/BIwppXzHErY/w-d-xo.html) I was able to make one. However, since it was a 1920x1920 grid of over 1000 layers 6px squares all linked with expressions to a gradient controller, it took me at least an hour to set up properly using guides, was near impossible to edit how I wanted those layers to react after that set up, and took 10 minutes to render a 4 second preview.
    After watching this breakdown: I went back into that comp, turned off all of those layers, made one new layer with a Particle Playground grid on it, turned off the gravity, connected the Ephemeral Property Mapper that gradient controller. Took me 1 minute and boom! I have a completely dynamic background with a more perfect grid, every property able to be edited at any time, and it previews with no lag what so ever. All without any expressions. It both works and looks better and took no time what-so-ever all thanks to your in depth and really clear breakdown.
    This is life changing for dynamic backgrounds! Thank you for that.
