Mate, your thumbnails don’t do your videos justice! these are the BEST tutorial videos (big fan of the shatter effect one). I was very sceptical given its length.. but hands down, best I have seen! and I have watched a few...
Superior Tutorial! Imho the best is that you start with the need-to-know, and afterward elaborate on the nice-to-know. I was just looking for an 'explosion', and I got that in one minute. After that I learned how to fine tune it. thanks a bunch.
Jake, you are a legend. Always there when I need you. I just had such a specific request from my awesome client and in 10 years I've never used this effect - this series of videos is sooo helpful. Cheers dude.
Thanks for the tutorial. Your explanation of Force 1 & 2 is worth watching the whole thing and probably solves my issue. I have cartoon treeline layers destroyed by a laser (like the sequence from "War of the Gargantuas") and needed the middle of the trees to splinter and fall quickly, leaving the tops to fall at a secondary rate. Using both Force options and keyframeing them to follow the laser should work out great.
Man. I am using this effect for years professionally and did not know about the inclination parameter. I always used a camera to fly through. Thanks for this series. Very helpfull.
Thank you very much, Jake. In Explainer Camp, you made a beautiful and handy example of shattering effect. I suggest people watch Explainer Camp. Thank you again for all you have done.
Incredibly informative, ty sir! It's incredible this plugins has been around since the 90s considering all it can do. Can you imagine the render times though 😵
I used the effect, but inverted, it starts in particles and ends in a complete logo, but it only lasts two seconds maximum. Is it possible to stretch the duration?
Very interesting thx you ! in my case there is a glass on the roof, is there possibity to rotate the wireframe so the shatter will go from top to bottom ?
This was a big help. However, while using the effect, it started crashing my aftereffects each time I had the position change for the force. Do you by chance know a solution to stop it from doing so?
@@JakeInMotion thank you for the respond, sir. Sadly, I had to move to building a model in Blender to meet the simulation. I Really appreciate your attempt to help me. Your videos are truly great keep them up!
Awesome video even for a total noob beginner like me. I have only one question, how can I prolongue the shatter effect? I want it around 5 or 10 seconds? Mean can it be slower?
Hello sir! Maybe I missed this in the video but is there a way to keyframe the shatter to start at a certain point? Right now it begins shattering after frame 1. Thanks in advance!
What should I do if I want broken glass to land on a floor? and i have another question if i want to make small, meduim, large glasses with one hit appeare, what i must to do ? i just can solve that with mant layers and looks wired... im really grateful if you improve my knowledge
I plan to make more traditional tutorials teaching fun animation techniques and looks by combining effects. I don't plan on covering third party plugins because their creators always have extensive instructional material already.
feel like every shatter tutorial is missing one crucial thing- what parameter actually changes when the shatter animation begins? if anyone here knows I'd be grateful to learn what I'm missing
Wow, the first tutorial that explained EVERYTHING! Thanks so much. But....why when I drop a shatter effect on an object in the middle of my comp do I not see any shattering happening, but if I add an image and put the shatter effect on it at the beginning it seems to work?? So confused.
What type of object? The shatter simulation always starts at the first frame by default. Try precomposing your layer into a comp the same size as the main comp and then apply the shatter effect to it.
Hi Jake, I have a question that I tried to find but didn't get any proper answer. As there are three options in cast shadows and accept shadows options in 3D layer material options. But I couldn't understand the difference between "On" and "Only". Can you explain it a bit or share an article where I can get a better idea about these? Thanks!
Sure! "On" will both show the layer and accept shadows from other layers. "Only" will not show the layer, but will still show shadows received by other layers. This is called a shadow catcher, and is great for casting shadows onto surfaces in your tracked footage.
@@JakeInMotion Right. Thank you, Jake, for your quick response. It makes sense for me now. I would also like to suggest that if you create a discord server where we can ask these kinds of questions and anyone from the community can answer and can get updates from you there as well. 😅
Hey Jake, thank you for this tutorial! I have a problem and maybe you or someone else in the comments can help me: I made my own shatter map and put a circular graduation in order to make it only shatter in the middle. But now only one giant circle breaks out, instead of my shatter map. What did I possibly do wrong?
when I add my effect the preview just goes black. I tried putting it on rendered but it still won't work. please tell me why this is happening and how to fix it.
That's ok! You'll need a layer to apply the effect to. If you make a new solid layer by going to the Layer menu, new solid, choose a color and make it the size of your comp, you can apply shatter to it. Anything you apply the effect to will work.
no words to say just jake is JAKE 💯💪👀
You explain everythin so detailed everytime, really allow people to learn software like AE on their own - thank you so much, pls keep it going ;D
Love this one and ALL your other tutorials! Your generous teaching is second to NONE!!!
This is amazingly useful and so so detailed. You are a GOD, Jake. ****SMASH****

Thx for really explaning the forces! Been watching a lot of tutorials everybody seems to be keyframing this effet wrong...

Thanks so much @Jake! Super helpful! So much power in a sneaky little switch!
finally u showing what the effect does in the thumb. it looks good bro 🙏
thanks for your awesome tutorials.
Thanks Jake! Came by to reference this for a project I am working on today! Adobe should pay you for doing all these videos!
wow, one of the best tutorials I've seen, thank you!
Love your videos, commenting for the algorithm

Watch from the forces part. Also learn more about shatter map from a png.
You are a great teacher.
Nice! Congrats Jake on your way to 100K!
Wow! Great effect! Thank You for such detailed guide
Really awesome effect and full of fun. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you 👍
Great tutorial, i didn't know the power of this effect, thanks for sharing!!!... Greetings.
Thank you very much, Jake.
The Best tutorial 👍 Thanks Bro
SO helpful. Legend!!!
So well explained. You saved me the inconvenient way via Cinema4D simulation and a lot of working time.
very depth detail thanks
Been waiting for this one! Love this effect but never have any idea what I'm doing with it - until now!
Been waiting on this 1
really good series. Bravo
thanks! this was a huge help!!
It's actually a very versatile effect.
Thank you very much!
Wonderful video. I was wondering can you also make tutorial on how to reverse shutter?
you are great man
6:40~10:00
This is insane ! 🙌💪😎
Thank you! An excellent tutorial! Perhaps I missed something, but is there a way of slowing it down? Slo-mo effect? Thanks again!
Great tutorial :) Maybe something i can use in my next tutorial.
Thanks Bruu
Thank You!

Great tut! Can you cast shadows from the 3D particles?
Amazing !!!
Thank You
A bit late to the party on this video, but this was fantastic! Much appreciated! Thanks for sharing!
This shit is gold my man! Fantastic work! Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge!
chefs kiss
would be nice if this effect had an option to add a BKSHH! sound effect
How do I limit these shatters like crop into a certain part?
amazing

This was a big help. However, while using the effect, it started crashing my aftereffects each time I had the position change for the force. Do you by chance know a solution to stop it from doing so?
I'm not sure why it's causing your machine to crash, but it's possible your system doesn't meet the minimum system requirements for After Effects.

It can! Just lower the gravity and decrease the force strength.
Usefull 🥰🥰

Mr. Jake, when i apply this effect, the shatter seems to happen in 2d rather than 3d, why is that? Do i need to change comp s3ttings?

do you know this type of animation th-cam.com/video/kcOFHZDxlLY/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=FiverrLogoAnimation

And what happen after you done with all the effects ?

Does anyone know how to motion track this effect?
The only effect that goes along with Fart Sound Effect.mp3
How to make it totally flat, with no shading, just breaking?
I dоwnloaded everything is okay
when i add custom shape, while rendering some particles unrelated to the shape shatters
stroke like particles
Try precomposing the shape in a new comp before applying the shatter effect.
slow down! easy cowboy!
👍
Thanks a lot!
