great vid zoffman, during last christmas my dad told me about that trick to fix an old pole he gave me and seeing your video seeing how its exactly done is the extra motivation I needed to actually attempt it. thanks and cheers
Probable cause??? Lol, Marty, think that you are on track. Do you ever use braided line when fishing??? Or a braid with a mono leader? And gotta love Superglue, hope your finger didn’t get stuck. But it’s good stuff for slight cuts!!!
Ingenious idea of rod holder Marty!! Glad to see you doing projects again. If I see fishing rods in a trash can, I'll stop and pick them up, these are free parts. Using a heat gun and razor blade easy to get eyes off especially the tips. I never thought of using braid as a eye wrapper, I usually use nylon sewing thread. I also use the pipe insulation tube to cover a worn out handle, sometimes if the cork isn't too bad, will use wood putty and sand then protect it with the pipe insulation. Take care and let's see more interesting ideas!!! :)
Hi Marty, I love your channel and I've followed you since you have that little red kayak! Say, I teach at the National Art League in Queens New York and one of my students is Charlene Kalin! She said you were good friends with Rhett Kalin and also worked for her husband Alan at K&L
That's one of those jobs I do when It's too cold and rainey to fish. Then as soon as the glue dries I decide It isn't that cold and rainey, so I go fishing anyway. LOL
Sir that was a fantastic and extremely informative video. I can't thank you enough for the information. I have several rods that I just love but they have some bad eyes and like you it's cost me fish. The one eye problem I get is the ceramic middle on Fuji eyes falls out leaving bare metal and not smooth rounded but sharp edged. I can now take my broken ones and make good ones. Thanks again.
Marty I build Fishing Rods but not for Commercial sale and most of the time I don`t use Glue but I put a piece of Painters Tape to hold the Eye till the String gets wrapped on the eye. But you can use a Glue Stick for the eye less messy than Super Glue.
Hey Marty thanks for posting this. I just had someone hit & run while on my bicycle. Knocked me off & broke 2 of my rod setups. At least I should be able to fix one with this info, appreciate it
i did this a few days ago on a free rod i found on the side of the road, is an old abu garcia, i already had a bunch of rod fixing stuff that i matched up to that rod.
Man thanks for this, next time try double sided tape that way the thread stays a little tighter when you wrap it plus you don't have the mess of the super glue
Hey bro Maybe also get rid if about as far as tou normally cast Perhaps that line may have some nicks in it that could break if you hook a strong fish.. I dunno just a suggestion.. I always say that if i lose a fish i dont want it to be from my end.. You know Dull hook Bad knot Line nicks Etc.. Thanks though Nice video
Get yourself some super glue KICKER...makes that job alot easier. You hold the piece in place after dipping it in glue and then hit it with a tiny spritz of kicker and it cures instantly.
Well it would break if you hooked a few bigger size fish or shark lol and super glue could damage the rod because they've been making it cheaper now in days ...
so happy to see marty in his element, working on making things work the way they should. back at his place too.
Marty thanks for the most helpful tip. Good to see you back.
yeah team....lol that was a helpful quick short and dirty duty vid...got some old big surf rods that need eyes..you've inspired me...thankz Marty!
The "old Marty" back in action.

Consider an "accelerator" to quicken the super glue dry time. Works so sweet! Can find on Amazon 👍keep up the great work Marty!!
Baking soda will make it dry fast
Thanks, Marty! Now I'm off to fix a couple of rods....

Cursing at the replacement eye is probably the most important step in this type of repair.
Well that's one way to do it! Stay safe & well Marty! 👍👍
Well you got me motivated on this cold morning to fix my poles that I put up 3 years ago. I was gonna bring in to get fixed one day lol so Thanks bro!

Nice video - What type of spool container brand is that?
Blue tape works well to hold your eye in place while the glue dries. You can also use a whipping knot to wrap it with.
Would love to see a follow-up video on how the cyanoacrylate glue holds up after a year or two vs epoxy!
walmart used to sell rod tip repair kits in sporting goods

Will u pull out your old red tackle box out and bring it back to a good use
Years ago I used to use thread with glue and wrap the guides. Not now. I switched to Supuer glue.
Hey zoffinger have you ever fished for snakehead fish? They really put up a good fight!
What do you use to tension the line when you are putting new line on?
i did this a few days ago on a free rod i found on the side of the road, is an old abu garcia, i already had a bunch of rod fixing stuff that i matched up to that rod.
if a ring falls of you can't just replace the ring eye only?
The legend!
The chipmunk swearing segment won my subscription before I even watched to the end to see if you actually succeeded.
How is it holding up?
Someone needs to get you a Bud Light sponsor!! 🤪😂🤣
what has happen to your great loop trip
is this the old house you sold?
I know you don't like to answer your comments but I was going to say to pick up some starbond ca glue and accelerator... works wonders
👍 Thanks man!!!

I use a UV activated glue…then I use a more substantial glue like jb weld to embed the string.
4:20 (nice)
Honestly Marty, I don't hear you curse enough lol
Keeping a eye out for you marty
Thanks!
Great video
Love this video
Great Video!!!
Great “I” Idea ! Thanks.
JB Weld is a better friend than superglue ;-)
Masking tape at edge of guide foot. Then a little super glue. Then wrap it.
Wow,just wow
Oh man I’m gonna try this on a new rod that has the end eyelet broken off Wish me luck
Hey bro

I dunno just a suggestion..
I always say that if i lose a fish i dont want it to be from my end..
You know
Dull hook
Bad knot
Line nicks
Etc..
Thanks though
Nice video
Put the glue on the pole, not the eye. 👍 - Great work.
Hey Marty what happened to your loop ?? Wheres your boat back in Tampa ??
Get yourself some super glue KICKER...makes that job alot easier. You hold the piece in place after dipping it in glue and then hit it with a tiny spritz of kicker and it cures instantly.
Good one

They *don't make eyes like they used to. They're much more fragile now.
I thought you were going to glue yourself to the table.
