Thank you for this video. I am going to try this out on my rods that need new guides. You saved me a lot of money. Keep posting your tips. Easy to watch and no bs.
Thanks. It was too cold in my garage today for me to take a few minutes and notch a couple boards to hold the rod up. So I took a couple of my coffee mugs, put the butt of the rod in one handle and the other handle about 1/2 way up for an instant rod holder. Placing the mugs upside down raised the rod about an inch, but I set them on two TV trays to give me a little more room to work the thread with. If I didn't have the tv trays, I could have put the mugs on a couple of books to raise them.
I have only been watching your videos for the last coue of days and anytime I have a problem I look you up! You have amazing videos and you are very knowledgeable! Keep it up homes!
Thank you so much for this video. I purchased a second hand Lews baitcaster I found it on Facebook marketplace for $40.. I couldn't believe it. When I got their O was more focused on checking the reel than looking closely at the eyelets. Well, one of the eyelets was missing the inner ring, whatever it's called. I figured I would see if any videos were out on replacing it and sure enough , there you are and I was already subscribed to your page! You have awesome content man. Keep it up!!
Thanks for the information. This is exactly what I been looking for since I don't care if it looks pretty as long as it works. Also don't want to spend too much on all the stuff that others recommend on buying to get this done. Your solution seems so far like the cheapest and most practical of the videos I've seen so far. Again thanks for taking the time to show us.
Could not find two part epoxy at 10:35pm in an Atlanta suburb. I used super glue to adhere the guide to the rod. Then I used Gorilla glue to "paint" over the thread I wrapped over the guide feet. Now I found out it had a chemical reaction to the super glue and turned into a total mess ( gorilla glue clouded up and formed a sponge like glob on both sides of the guide feet) Gonna have to strip off what I started and begin all over.
Rod/reel combo with fishing kit as an emergency setup th-cam.com/users/postUgkxntWMOZsO1Zfv-pdn_XuffEtNkTYAYu4Z recommend but started to use this every day. The rod is thick and seems durable. I keep it neatly tucked into a regular backpack all the time with my fishing gear, and can grab it anytime, put it on my back and go anywhere. I just read in another review that the rod length below the reel is adjustable as well, so I will try that too for even more portability. Probably the best setup I've ever owned. I lost the cap for the eyelets, but no big deal since I still have the black cloth sheath that came for the pole and I use that. Very portable and high quality.
Nice vid, replaced a few rod tips but never mid blank guide. Good video to do in the winter when water time is limited would be line types/test and uses for all the different methods you use.
Im gonna have to do this to the rod i just bought. I was literally too excited to find a baitcaster so cheap and i just bought it lol. Awesome video bro thanks!
excellent video thank you. But and I am wondering if there is a way to just put some plastic back in the guide? The smallest guide on my 7 medium heavy fast, the tip guide, end guide, whatever the term is I am not sure since I fish some but have never done any actual rod crafting or maintenance…. Anyway the guide is still on the and secured, but it is all metal now, the plastic in it stripped off or something. And my dad’s friend who had previously been a guide and is wayeeee more experienced than me pointed it out to me and said yah you could just do it yourself. Lol, which led me to search out this video. So is there a way to just put some plastic back onto it?
Nice video broke some guides yesterday bank fishing. Will be ordering some goodies soon. Also could you use like 8lb braid as the thread for wrapping the guide

What about Metal rods from the olden days? I have 3 that need new Eyes and they are from the 1940s, thank you for this video, have you also noticed that tips break more and more often on new fancy fishing poles ?
How do you repair the old pin rods with a cork on it my dad gave me his and the whole court and the real is loose I was wondering do you think there's a repair kit for it or is it just done with
Where did you get that rod holder? Been looking for them, ebay, and Amazon. I have seen couple on videos that have couple thread holders also just like one you got, but with bottom to it. Can't find what there called, or where there sold.
I’m noticed that my first one closest to the reel was bent all the way down! Is the eye ruined? I bent it as least as close to the other ones as I could get it

If you have to do a few guides on one rod, can you do them all and then dry them on the spinner? Or is it better to dry each one before doing the next?
I did this to a free rod from the side of the road, I had it for a bit and then I got a penn long beach for 5 dollars so I finally fixed it, already had all the supplies just never got around to it. Don't have a turner so I sat and turned it for a while.
You didn’t say which Loctite that was that you were using but , by the color of the squeeze bottle , I that it was ultra gel control . That is the one that I prefer to use because it partially sets the quickest , thereby keeping you from holding the two things that you are trying to hold together too long .
The big question, I have a 9 foot lamiglass salmon rod(new) I want to use it for my kayak any way I can effectively take two feet off the over all length without ruining the rod?
Thank you for the video. Will it affect my fishing if the second lineguide from my casting reel is off? I am not handy at all after a stroke so my right hand is very weak.
Have a friend help you. They can learn this skill too! You should replace the second eyelet up because as line comes off the reel it often wobbles and sometimes this may cause it to partly wrap around the rod which could cause a tangle. Another alternative might be to just file the broken eyelet as flat as you can, but keep in mind that when landing fish with the rod properly bent, this increases the load on the other eyelets nearby. :)
I know this video is pretty old but I need to repair the top guide on my baitcasting pole. I would think that is a different process. Any info would be appreciated 🤙🏻 Thank you
Another tip. Be VERY CAREFUL witht heat you apply, especially if repaired a guide near the tip of the blank where its very thin. Take it from somebody who has learned the hard way... you can easily damage the blank with too much heat and destroy your rod. JUST ENOUGH HEAT TO MELT THE RESIN.
It's just something that turns the rod while in UV light. You can make your own UV light chamber if you really want to, but it's not that big of a deal.
you can use a piece of thread about 10 or so inches long and fold it in half so that you have a loop. Then before you finish off the wrapping, you put the piece of thread you looped where you stopped wrapping. Make sure you overlap it so that the loop is showing. Continue wrapping over the thread loop several times. Once you reach the point where you are finished wrapping the thread, clip off the thread and leave a few inches. Take the tag end and run it through the loop. Keep tension on the tag end with one hand and grab the opposite end of the loop end and pull on it. You will see the tag end go under the wrapping so that you have a nice finish. Then you are ready to epoxy and finish the job! Hope that makes sense. Good luck.
I think it is more for on the go and getting the rod ready so it can be used like in a tournament. I have done that exact thing before and it worked fine so it is usable. I know it isnt the custom look and done like a manufacturer but in a pinch it works quick. Have any pics of some of your rod builds Jon? Id like to see some if possible.
@@jonforce781 can you please recommend a professional how-to video then? I want to learn but I have nowhere to go in real life to learn. This would benefit me and many others. I'm not planning on charging anyone. They supply the eyelets, I fix the rod.

This video is money! I’ve been going back to it for a refresher for the past 2-3 years. Have repaired numerous rods. Thanks Bro.
I’ve fixed three guides and every time I did, it was while watching this video. Thanks a ton for taking the time.
Great step by step guidance on replacing a rod guide. now I have a video to resort back to when I replace one on one of my rods. Thanks!
Ridiculously awesome video! Thanks for this
Thank you so much. Have several poles that I now don't have to trash. Great video.

I used black nail polish to cover the thread - worked great !
You just saved me from tossing St Croix rod due to a crushed guide. Awesome vid. Thanks man
Nice video for this inexperienced person. Easy to follow and complete.

Thanks man I just had a guide break and was scared about how to fix but this seems easy enough even for dumb little me
Well presented. Clearly stated. Thanks
Sin on the rod 'dryer', what is that?
Great video! Thanks for this. Just snapped a guide on one of my saltwater spinner rods.
Thanks for the tip.
Great video, will try this on a couple of broken rods.
Question, I guess the brush is sacrificial? Would be hard to get the epoxy out?
Good info. I've got four or five that need new guides.

Thxs for the easy straight forward repair.
4:00. What the function of the little tread?
To pull the tag end underneath the other wraps so it doesn't loosen while gluing.
Great video. Simple. Got a few that need replaced. Thanks.
Do you have to have rod dryer?
No but it evens out the finish if you use a long cure time epoxy.
Love that Prof beat
how come the fuji guides you showed have 2 legs but the one you used only had one

was that just standard sewing thread?
also, what does the "rod Turner" look like? haven't heard of that before.
thanks
Dre Sted can use whatever braided line as well 30 lb 20lb if tjat what ya got
Can you over heat and damage the rod with the lighter ? How can you tell you heated enough so the old thread comes off clean without burning the rod ?
Yes. Don’t heat it much at all and don’t let the flame touch the threads. Rod can weaken and even buckle.

Question what would cause a rod guide to turn? It is a factory guide still glued to the rod but for some reason it is about 45 degrees off.
Great tutorial! For repairing the tip top, do you need to thread it as well? Thanks!

Repairing the same rod today using this method. My first time!
thanks for the great video
Thanks for this video.. great opportunity here to link to the bobbin and thread even the glue $
Is it necessary to put it on the turner for 10min?
Did u say "rod dryer"? What is that?
How do you line up the new guide? In the video it looked like you just eyeballed it. I'd be tempted to snap a chalk line or something.
small diameter dowell or wire is what i use throw the eyes
Where did you get the bobbin?
And where can we get everything that you used in this video

Dam, you came a long way!
I don't understand the purpose of the loop knot. What did it do?
Thanks you just saved me also my threw away a $100 rod
That was a really helpfully, thanks 👏👏👏👏👏
Ok. the video was great except what is a rod dryer? And what if you don’t have one of those ? Lol kinda blew right past that part
Thanks, plan to fix a few rods
Definitely don't use a lighter like that. It can melt the resin that holds the carbon together, and then your rod is done.
I second this. Take it from someone who has unfortunately learned the hardway.
Hmmmmmm, do this or new MFer rod? Thanks Ben.
GOOD JOB
I'd like to know how to remove and replace the guide ring inserts only? If anyone knows?
Still trips me out that I now own this exact rod and was literally throwing a provoke on it yesterday...
Love it.
Thank you
How much to charge to do that
