    Great fix. I thought I had wasted nearly $500 on the mower. This was a $25 solution.
    It does run rough for two minutes, so give it a chance to get going.

    Wow, Kipp...this worked perfectly for me! And I would agree that the GCV replacement carb did seem to make the motor run more smoothly. Very much appreciate this!

    Thank you for this video. I've had my carb apart 4 times to try and clean/ unclog it and this saves me £100 (and a long wait) to just buy a replacement. Sounds like it will make it less likely to get clogged in future too.

    I follow your steps on cleaning the carburetor injector cause it was surging, high low and great it solved the problem and changed the filter and replaced the spark plug and gap At .030 but now it’s blowing out smoke with a somewhat rough idling. Thanks for help

      @dadsworkshopbykipplabrie7982  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      A minor amount of smoke/blow by at startup is normal but if it continues after reaching operating temperature I would verify the oil level, if that checks out then you may have worn piston rings. Thanks for the comment.

    Just a question - at 5:23 minutes in, you mentioned you added an extender. How much overlap is there on the extender from the point of the original termination point ? 1/4 inch /14 inch extender ? Or in Centimeters ? How far out does the extender reach please ? Did you melt on the extender, glue it ? What is the method of adhesion please ? Thank you in advance !!!!

    I'm having a hard time understanding the differences in all these carbs? Do you know what difference there is between a 16100-Z0L-862, and a 16100-Z0L-853? The 853's are cheaper and come with all the gaskets, but would they work in this machine?

    • @JovianStone_
      @JovianStone_ ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For anyone else who may want to know, the 16100-Z0L-853 works great. It may just be a non-OEM part number, idk.
      Getting the choke plate out was the hardest thing about this, and judging by the scratch marks in the video, the 16100-Z0L-862 model must be the same.
      I also added an extension, since the choke didn't open the choke plate very far. But once installed, I added fuel to the tank (was a completely dry system), and barely pulled the cord, and it started right up! Runs amazing now. Thanks Dad's Workshop

    Can you swap choke arm over to sub carburetor?

    • @dadsworkshopbykipplabrie7982
      @dadsworkshopbykipplabrie7982  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question, my spare lawn mower parts are currently in storage but it's definitely possible. I know Honda carburetors come in a mix of "plastic slot" and "metal screw-in" arms but as long as the diameter and the stem length match up it should work. The only thing that might hold you back is the shape, size and material of the butterfly valve. Way to think outside the box! I'm for sure going to give it a try Gomez.

BTW it’s competitor “Toro” makes buying parts directly from the manufacturer online fast and simple they’ll even work with your local small engines dealer as well along with FREE! online repair manuals with Pictures!! • @JovianStone_

    Am I correct in thinking that using the older carb would make this mower less likely to have issues caused by clogged ports/jets? From what I've heard the newer carbs have much smaller ports and jets than the older variants.

      @dadsworkshopbykipplabrie7982  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just letting viewers know that I'm working on an engine with a fixed throttle. All Honda mowers that feature the blade-stop/roto-stop system come with an adjustable throttle for example "turtle and rabbit" speed. Because the engine continues to run when releasing the bail control on the blade stop system, Honda had to make a kill switch away from the traditional bail control arm release method, so they integrated it into the throttle.

    • @dadsworkshopbykipplabrie7982
      @dadsworkshopbykipplabrie7982  ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question Pat, the only other option is to go with an aftermarket "amazon special" carburetor but I'm not a fan of cheap replacement parts but to be fair I know plenty of friends and coworkers that have had great success with aftermarket carburetors. The fuel transports on Honda carburetors are SUPER tiny and clog very easily and I'm not sure the engineering behind this and being an ASE automotive technician for Lexus I don't care for auto engineers in general LOL. The only advice I can give is buy it and try it. Thanks for your support Pat.

      Absolutely! especially on this new GCV170 carburetor design. I like to run seafoam in the gas tank twice a year, once on the first cut of the season and once before winter storage. See directions on bottle for proper amount and usage. Gumout works great too! Thanks for the comment R2BA.
