The above affiliate link is likely a better install than this.
I installed a rear view backup camera into my 2008 2nd generation Ford Escape. It connects to my android 2 din head unit.

Thanks for the video, very helpful.
I’m planning on installing a backup camera on my wife’s 2010 Escape and was wondering if it matters on what reverse light wire you tap onto or any one of the reverse light wires should work?

I'm pretty sure you can turn those parking guides off if you don't like them.

Nice set of Vids for the SUV. Are you still happy with the Install of both units and are you happy with both sets of equipment (Stereo and Camera)?

Scott Toupin I no longer own it, but I was very happy with my installation until the day I sold it!

Your video is great bro! One quick question... What's the reverse trigger wire color on the escape? I've been trying to install my camera but can't find that cable! Escape 2012 even the same color

+Santiago Ramirez I used a hiring harness, so the color may not match. I believe it was orange.

At the 12 min mark you stated talking about extra wires. What was the extra red wire you used? I'm looking to get some since I will need it for my install.

Hey Robbie, did your video wire come with the RCA connectors on each end with a short red exposed wire? The hell do you do with that? The camera has the yellow video RCA connector that goes to the stereo and the red RCA connector that goes to the reverse light power and ground. Can't figure out if I need those little red wires because my shit isn't working.

+StonedAlone13 Based on what I remember, my Camera Had a Yellow RCA -> Video, Red AC type connector which went to Power and Ground. I don't think there was another little red wire.

man what do the little red wires go to on both ends?

    • @StonedAlone13
      @StonedAlone13 8 ปีที่แล้ว

+LILStunnaMain Hey I successfully installed my rearview camera. Those little red wires attached to the yellow RCA cables are just an alternative way to give power to the camera. If your camera came with that, PLUS the other RCA jack that uses a black and red wire, then you just use the black and red wires.

Little red wires actually signal the head unit to switch to video input. Connect one end to the reverse light + and the other end to the reverse sense wire in the back of the HU.

    Dear friend,
At 7:00 what did you do with the red cable and how?
And how did you connect it to the monitor? Do you also have a small guide for that?

That cable connects the camera to the rear view lights, in order to power the camera when the vehicle is in reverse.
My aftermarket stereo had a composite video input, which this camera connected to.
See my other videos for where I install the aftermarket stereo.

Yep I got that, but how did you wire it?

Not sure what you're asking... the videos pretty much show everything I did.
Camera power cable tied into to reverse light, Camera video cable to connection on head unit. That's it.

+Robbie Doo Hmm sorry Im not clear, I was just wondering how you "connected" the wire to the reverse light, because you did not show this

Oh, I see! I just spliced them together. I carefully removed the plastic shielding from the reverse light, shown in the video in fast motion - then I wired & twisted them together and use electrical tape to tape it closed.

Hey bud, can you do an update on your escape? I just got one and I thought it was impossible to diy install a double din radio. Did you lose alot of capabilities like bluetooth or steering wheel controls? Im going to install the dd radio and dash along with a rear view camera and I'm going to I stall the chrome trim pieces on mine like the door handles, under the front grill and the rear piece you attached your camera to. Then I plan on installing the side steps you used and if I can find the chrome and black roof rack to replace my all black one. Then finish it off by putting a classy set of black rims with a little chrome accent..... this is obviously going to take a long time at first I want the radio and the rear-view camera and possibly a couple extra ambient lights and the rest I will get done little by little

I also want to do this.... can you make a video and share?

You can maintain your factory Sync compatibility by using third-party modules. Something such as the iDatalink Maestro RR will allow you to flash all of your vehicle settings, and it will simplify the process of connecting the harnesses. You can find most of this on Crutchfield when you browse double din radios compatible with your vehicle.

I got so frustrated trying to watch this video, poor camera skills, terrible attention to detail, very slow talker.
