Used Ospho on a 500 gal fuel tank that was totally covered in rust. The Ospho turned the rust black and left a powdery white residue. It completely stops rust and serves as a good primer. Simply brushed off the powder then painted the fuel tank and even though it sat beside saltwater, no rust formed after 5 years. Great stuff.

I used this product on a tree chipping machine, which is stored outdoors uncovered. It withstood the NE elements for about 2.5 years before rust started to resurface. I like that it runs into body seams that are not accessible. I'm retreating with the same product this week.

I read through some of the other comments now on this video and I think the Ospho process is misunderstood.
Take a painted/coated panel that has rust on it...
Step one is to grind the entire surface down to bare metal, using a wire wheel to grind the rusted areas of all scale and brown surface rust. The rust needs to be wire wheels until virtually no more brown dust comes up from doing so. Then at that point, it's time to apply the Ospho. I always apply it with a brush, working it really well into the metal and I do the entire panel, even if there's no rust in spots. Then it needs to fully dry, minimum of 24 hours.
Step 2 is to make sure it's completely dry and then I start with P80 grit sand paper on a DA and make sure to remove all surface scale created by the Ospho. You do not leave that scale in place! That scale is the converted rust contaminants that cannot stay with the panel. Once it's all sanded down and no more scale, it's ready to be wiped clean with a good wax and grease remover.
Step 3 is to coat the panel with a good primer and paint as normal from there.
Hope this helps someone out there in TH-cam - land 👍

Not what the bottle says it says no need to remove all rust only the large chunks and as for the white stuff it should come off with a rag and water if you wire it your defeating the purpose of dissolving it with the acid which converts it to a coating that can’t rust anymore, it’s just a chemical reaction that turns iron oxide “rust” into iron phosphate, you need the light rust there to do its job

PLEASE if you are going to use OSPHO, use gloves, eye protection and a respirator if available, or at least a mask. OSPHO is a high concentration of phosphoric acid and it converts iron oxide (rust) to a zinc phosphate coating.. requires scuffing and then priming and painting after.. a very effective product!

I used Ospho on my truck about a year ago and covered it with primer and paint. So far I do not see any signs of the rust coming back. One thing you should do though is to make sure you put a plastic tarp or polyethylene film underneath what you are applying the Ospho too because it will eat concrete. I can attest to this fact because I ordered a gallon from Amazon and when UPS delivered it the box was wet and the driver sat the box down on my concrete porch and it immediately started to eat the concrete. Luckily I had read a post from another youtube video where someone had the same problem so I just refused the shipment and immediately washed the concrete off with water. I was able to go buy a gallon from my local TruValue hardware store.

Does Klean Strip Concrete & Metal Prep leave behind some latex or acrylic coating? Is there a rust converter that only uses acid? Seems like some latex coating will negate the ability to use a primer. Ultimately, you're limited to the adhesion of that latex or acrylic.

I was using the Ospho exactly like you were in this video. I was spraying Ospho into cavities I could not reach. I would then coat with epoxy primer and paint. I would also like to know this. From what I have seen you just primer or paint right over the metal after the ospho dries. If it is still a little wet or damp after 24 hours then wipe it clean then paint or primer. You can probably also sand or scuff the metal after the ospho dries and its probably a good idea to use a degreaser in between those steps. Anyone else have any other suggestions?

Idk who did it but they did a perfect job sealing it. Ant see it unless u look hard, and it's still 100%. Do what I said above. Poke the bubble and get some Ospho is there. Then you can fix it next spring. Mine started cause of the stainless wheel arch pieces that they SCREWD in the fender lip and DIDNT put any epoxy primer, etc so it wouldn't rust. And the gasket is not silicone. It was vinyl. So dirt etc got back there and made a few spots. My father got a new hobart welder to weld up his 31 model A and I'm going to weld in New pieces. Small holes. Smaller than a quarter. But with the price of resin, hardener, fiberglass etc welding is way faster, cheaper. I also use CarRep 2 part epoxy primer and clear. It has no chamber to pop with cap on bottom. It has NO shelf life. It lasts forever. That 2k primer is good but u got 24 hrs kept in fridge at max and it's done. Costs same, buy on Amazon. Ospho Ace hardware. Great stuff. Then mix 1 quart of any new or used oil, 1 quart of any new used trans fluid, not post surgery but real trans fluid lmfao, 1 tube or tub of grease like grease gun or wheel bearing, 1 wax toilet flange gasket. Mix all in pot, heat and mix. Then spray, brush etc. Will not ever rust, costs less than $6 if using drained oil and fluid. And lasts alot longer than 3m Cavity wax, Blaster, Fluid Film etc. Tape drain holes in doors and fill with mineral, baby oil. Or meted Vaseline. Let soak for few days then drain and save for next time. Used this for 20 years on all things that I didn't want rusty. Knock off heavy rust, clean with degreaser. Ospho to convert surface or deeper rust and then I use Eastwood internal frame, then farm implement paint with 3 capsules of hardener. That paint will kill 36 grit flapper. Or JD black paint for machinery. Dozers etc. Then this recipe. Any more info needed, let me know. I help anybody save their rides. These newer vehicles suck. I'll never have one. I'll keep buying all the Town cars I can find.
