    The thing about androids is now false because similarly priced androids also have glass edge to edge displays

    • @panzerstef
      @panzerstef 2 ปีที่แล้ว +51

      And on some the display itself is also curved which is an even bigger problem because if the impact is severe enough the layers of the OLED display will start delaminating and it'll develop a black spot or it'll just completely stop functioning
      And let's not talk about how expensive they are to repair

    1:43 many flagship Androids have curved displays which actually makes them more susceptible to broken screens than iPhones.
    2:03 Also, with the iPhone 12, in addition to Ceramic Shield, the glass no longer curves over the metal frame. So now, the metal frame absorbs most of the impact when you drop your phone.

    Gorilla glass is some incredible stuff, but always use a case with a lip around the screen edge. My 12 dropped about 5 feet face first onto concrete after a guy in a poorly tuned tuner car backfired right in front of me (and scared everyone on the street)… no cracks. (I use a Spigen case with the magsafe charger ring built in, but anything with that lip around the screen edge will work.)

      So in other words, glass didn’t break because glass was protected by a case? Amazing.
      In all seriousness I think part of it is iPhone owners resistance to getting adequate cases for their phone. Fuck aesthetics, does it protect the phone? No? Then into the bin it goes. But iPhone users definitely seem more hesitant to use them, and this is coming from an iPhone owner. I treat my phone as gingerly as possible, and no issues. The bottom line is: don’t be reckless, and don’t be an idiot.

Why spend 25 million procuring and installing a new more shatter resistant glass when you can create glass that is just strong enough to not crack every time it's dropped but we can off to the point where it will eventually crack and make tens of millions of dollars off of customers getting stuff repaired. He got 2.5D glass mixed up with curved displays. All the Samsung galaxy flagships to this day and a few other androids following the Galaxy S6 edge(2015) have curved the display at the sides to give an impression of a bezel less "infinity" display. 2.5D glass is when the glass is slightly rounded off at the edges to make it smoother, it was added in iPhone 6(2014) and it was then later removed from the completely flat screened iPhone 12(2020). Apple has never used a curved display in any products.
