This dude is so full of sh!t lmao. He is not even making any sense. Apple decided to not go with the Type C in order for not getting any backlash in 2014, ok fine now it's been 10 years and they even changed the charge battery speed so people would anyway change they power bricks and cables so why not use that chance? Plus they didn't stutter a second when they had to remove the brick even if they had just changed the cable to Type C - lighting all of a sudden, forcing people to get a new brick that wasn't included in the box if they wanted to use the new cable lmao, all this for the environment and yet they are now opting to transition to a wireless charger that is much lesser eco-friendly since like 40% of the energy is wasted entirely. This is all bullcrap, don't act like there aren't adapters from Micro USB to Type C for people to keep their old cable, they could provide the adapter in the box for the first year to ease the transition from lighting to Type C, plus I'm sure if they included a Type C in the box they would get almost no backlash since now Type C is the most common cable and many people who use iPhones also use iPads now own a Type C cable so they wouldn't be that mad to have a better cable included. All in all this is just bullshit to justify Apple, but the only reason they keep lighting is because the sales of the cables and the royalties they earn from lighting accounts for billions of dollars in revenue each year, and who the f cares about the environment or customers if they earn billions from it, and the same is gonna be for magsafe since its their patent again. USB-C has a male & female connection on both sides of the port, this makes it alot more prone to debris than a solid male to female connection like lightning. Apple chooses to keep lightning because it is more durable. Example: take a cup of dirt or sand, jam a USB-C cable into it and try to plug it into a port.. it won't, it will be clogged because it has that female end on both sides. You can do that same thing with a lightning cable, shake it off real quick and easily still plug it into the phone, this is once again because it is a solid male connection, there's no "hole" on the inside of the lightning port like there is USB-C. This is a test that has actually been done internally, Now alot of people simply think about ohhhhh what charges faster?! The fact is the majority of people don't need a 65w megacharge or whatever, most people just charge their phones at night. So in order for the phone to last for several years, it is a better long-term view for Apple to use a solid male connection (such as lightning) over a male+female combo connection like USB-C. Samsung plans on you replacing your phone every year, that's why they barely get 1-2 years of updates, whereas Apple is STILL updating the iPhone 6s from 2015.. Apple looks more at long term durability than any other manufacturer does. EDIT: Someone may ask "but why then use USB-C for the non-pocketable devices like iPad?" Good question, that was done since non-pocketable devices such as the iPad are alot less prone to debris/lint than a phone that is always in a pocket that may become dirty. That's why the iPhone specifically needs that solid male to female connection, and seems to work fine for iPads as they generally never leave the home. Unfortunately if Apple buckles to the pressure and puts USB-C on iPhone, you would see a drop in the overall durability of the iPhone over years.
@@brewergamer That is an interesting thought, but I don't think that it is convincing. First off, although the cable is male, the phone port is female. The point about the iPhone itself beeing more durable is therefore not valid. Only the cable is more durable as a male connector. That can be replaced and has nothing to donwith how pockatable the device is. Also, the lightning cable is insanely slow by nowadays standards. That is just not worth it and for antablet that is supposed to work as anwork station, it is too inferior.

@lola baldo no, i don't believe you. If it's because you use only apple, even some apple products have type-c connectors, so it's impossible you never heard of them. But all of this doesn't matter since, if it's true, you still represent an exception.
I think what the video meant was that if they switched to USB-C in 2014, only two years after switching to Lightning, that would be a PR nightmare as it’s a big ask to your consumers to potentially switch cables twice in the span of 3 years. So they chose to wait out on USB-C while other Android phones took the lead in that. But by the time it would’ve been enough time that it would make sense to make another switch, Apple was just was no longer interested in switching. Both because so many other companies “beat them to the punch” but also because that way they can feed into their idea of an isolated Apple ecosystem. It’s impossible to leave the ecosystem without ditching every single Apple product you own, nowadays, and lightning still being used in a lot of their products is a symptom of that business strategy. But sure, if they were to switch to it in the next iPhone, it would no longer be a PR nightmare because it has been an entire decade since lighting, and they sort already started a kind of transition with the iPhone 12, and the iPad and MacBook lineups. But it’s clear that USB-C is not the direction their going for with the future of iPhones.
fun fact: apple could've just included a adapter to make the transition to lightning not matter because ppl would still be able to use thier old gadgets. and they could do this with transition to USB c too

@Brewergamer and lightning ports cant get dirty? I have a few problems with this. First, Planned obsolescence is something that most phone companies have been doing for literal years at this point, Samsung does it, LG did it I'm fairly sure Google does it, and yes, Apple does it. Apple wants you to buy the newest phone every year too. They flat out admitted to throttling older phones with software updates. Second, USB-C is much more durable and dust resistant than you give it credit for, I have a switch, which uses USB-C and its dock has been sitting with the port facing up, without a cover, for almost a year, the connection not only works, but fits in just as well as it did when i bought the thing, and i bought it for playing handheld specifically. Third, USB-C is not just about power delivery, its about data transfer as well. right now it takes nearly an hour to back up my phone to itunes, which makes sense because lightning is stuck with USB 2.0 speeds. USB-C is a USB 3.0/3.1/whatever USB is naming their standards compliant standard, meaning it can transfer data much faster than the 480MBit/s that lightning offers. 10Gbit/s is the max for USB 3.1 gen 2)

Portless will cause a huge amount of backlash because even though people can wireless charge with the wireless charger on the back, a lot of people have bulky tough cases, and most people have popsockets on the back making it impossible to charge.

So after a portless iphone transition, the wireles chargers consume more power to provide better charging speeds compared to wired counterparts. This is a huge implication on total energy consumption for the same output.
I know what u mean but they do go first a lot also. iPhone itself is a first that sparked entire phone industry to change to touchscreen with fingers instead of stylus. iPhone X first to go all screen with a notch and most phones followed suit. When you break it down It doesn’t even help the environment. It actually does more harm! Also when including cables that are UCB C to lightning or MagSafe when existing adapters use USB A. Ridiculous
In conclusion: It’s because it’s so widely spread amongst iPhones and shares compatibility with AirPods and Mac accessories and changing it will cause outrage like it did and ofc it makes them money for keeping a proprietary connector

I used to be a Samsung user before I switched over to iOS. Every single samsung device I owned had issues with the charging port. Always after a few months the usb-c port would stop working, get clogged, etc. Have had an iphone for years.. never a single issue with the lightning charging port. It's simply superior. Simple fact is that the inside of the port, if you look at it, there is an additional internal piece that has to connect with the female end of the usb plugin. that creates more chances to have issues like clogging or damage. Whereas with the lightning cable there's no internal male end that needs to connect with the lightning plug.

I really have to side with Apple's critics against the portless iPhone models. Wireless charging really isn't a good way to charge devices if wired charging is still a possible option. So many things going against wirelss charging like ineffeicent power management, heat build-up, battery wear and tear, and overall charging capbilities.
@lola baldo no, i don't believe you. If it's because you use only apple, even some apple products have type-c connectors, so it's impossible you never heard of them.
But all of this doesn't matter since, if it's true, you still represent an exception.
@lola baldo oh. I understand now. Is that your first phone? Sorry for my previous comment, if that's the case 😓

5 minutes is pretty long to say: Accessory revenue. Screw apple for still using lightning
In conclusion: It’s because it’s so widely spread amongst iPhones and shares compatibility with AirPods and Mac accessories and changing it will cause outrage like it did and ofc it makes them money for keeping a proprietary connector
Sure it would cast outrage from some ignorant people for a few weeks but all of a sudden they’d realize that they can now use the same chargers as everyone else around them.
Well they removed chargers on the new 2020 iPhones to help earth but won’t change the charging port to USB-C from lightning because it makes them millions of dollars. By removing chargers means more profits while charging you the same price of 1000+ USD for an iphone. Key word in all of this is PROFITS PROFITS AND MORE PROFITS. Lol
Unless, they make a lightning to usb-c adapter or keep supporting lightning until it fades, it won’t work well
Just the money part I believe. If they didn't want to deal with backlash, they wouldn't have ever used proprietary ports to begin with. They would've adopted universal standards so the iPhone accessories won't have to use a different port. It would also be a blessing for Android users since they can get some high quality accessories and know that they will work. There you go, no backlash.

Cap, ur just a salty apple user, never had I even had a slight problem with the usb-c, as a matter of fact its fking amazing. The lightning cable always get bent and its shit
Take 2 cables, 1 lightning and 1 USB-C. Fill a cup with sand, jam a USB-C into the sand and then try to plug it into your phone, you cannot as there is a female AND male connection on both sides of USB-C. It will get jammed. Do the same thing with a lightning cable, you will still be able to plug it into your device, as lightning is a solid male connection. I tried to make it as elementary as I could for ya.

I already use my phone as a portless device, so I definitely see the Iphone 13 having a smaller notch thanks to the relocation of the speaker being above the front facing cameras, portless phone, and 120hz screens, which honestly would kill battery life faster in my own opinion, that's why Apple is currently experimenting with Lithium-IRON batteries as we speak.

I would’ve gone with the 30-pin connector at least another year and would have adopted to USB-C afterwards
This wasn’t possible. The 30-pin connector was too big for the iPhone 5 and USB-C wasn’t even there yet. It was until the iPhone 6S in 2015 that people were still asking for Micro-USB, and now they’re all asking for USB-C. Neither of which will happen.
@@anianii Considering they replaced all ports with USB-C on their MacBooks. This reasoning doesn't seem to hold much. They basically trapped themselves now, but also likely don't care much since they still get licensing fees from Lighting from 3rd party vendors. And iPhone users on large part pretty much accepted this inconvenience and just keep their Lightning cable with them in case of need to charge something.

@@Aditya-tt1ws Actually if they temporary use MicroUSB before going to Type-C, that's not a good way either and will gain worst backlash since accessories manufacturers will make these things for few years and ditching again.
