The fact that we both had a friend named Scott where we discovered games we hadn't heard of or played before continues to solidify how we were always meant to be friends. LOVE the video series idea, I hope you continue with it!!!

Darn right, and thank you! I do want to continue on with it so long as people keep enjoying it, it's a good way to share some stories I might not be able to otherwise and also perhaps keep myself honest :X

A great watch. "Justify my Collection" was one of my earliest concepts for videos I wanted to make. Really, mostly an excuse to talk about these things I have a fondness for. Maybe it's never too late. 🤔😅

It never is! And I kid you not, I almost called this "can I justify my collection?" But wasn't sure if that sounded too defensive haha 😆

I have kwirk because I watched Video Power as a kid and it had an animated short within the show called "The Power Team" and it included Kwirk with the guy from NARC, Arch Rivals, Wizards and Warriors and Bigfoot...the Monster truck. Yea...
So I have all the games they were from on NES as a tiny little sub collection.
But Kwirk is a fun puzzle game no less.

Wow that's cool, I had no idea that existed!

I tried picking three random games as well. Here they are:
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney (DS): Not much of a story here. In 2019 I started expanding my DS collection beyond what I had from when the DS was current and Phoenix Wright is a well-regarded DS game. Uh oh, are the other two games going to be boring like this?
Dynowarz (NES): Like I'm sure many collectors do, I keep a list of games I'd like to obtain. Dynowarz was never on the list. One day I was checking the marketplace section of the Video Game Sage forums and saw someone selling a whole bunch of NES games with manuals. I love game manuals and my collecting standard for games that originally came in cardboard is game+manual. For games that won't require a big time commitment (like most NES games) and if the price is right I can be tempted into buying mediocre games if they come with the manual, especially if I'm buying other games from the same seller. That's what happened here. Also in the same purchase: Rambo, Mach Rider, Ice Climber, Dick Tracy, City Connection, Battleship, Bugs Bunny Birthday Blowout, Burgertime, 10-Yard Fight, and Bases Loaded. The seller was the guy who made the NES homebrew game Battle Kid: Fortress of Peril.
Kirby's Adventure (NES): This was a game I received for Christmas in probably 1993. But the cartridge I have now is not the same cartridge from back then. Until a few years after I got Kirby's Adventure I was only allowed to play Nintendo for 30 minutes a day. That wasn't a problem for most of Kirby's Adventure because it saved after every level. Until you beat it and unlock a hard mode but there's no saving in the hard mode. You have to beat it all in one sitting, which takes somewhere around 2-3 hours. I gave it a try but my mom made me turn it off in the middle. I got mad and gave the game to a neighbor girl because I figured the game was useless to me now. Neighbor girl moved a few years later. Fast forward to when I moved out and started getting back into retro games. Kirby's Adventure was one of the first games I picked up. I even beat the hard mode in one sitting. You can't stop me now, mom!

Absolutely love this! It's so cool to hear the personal stories, both from the distant and recent past, that we have with these games!

Always appreciate a collector who doesn't just buy anything randomly, just to add another bone to the pile. Curated collections are the best collections. That's what I do as well, but the problem is my interests are vast and I find it very easy to get into most games; I'm like a kid in a candy store. I love exploring hidden gems and obscure games that never get any mainstream attention. That's a rabbit hole that just keeps going. At this point, my space is at like 95% capacity, and I'm trying to narrow down my final want list, and after that, no more retro collecting! Gotta stop.

I'm pretty similar! I mean, I have my systems and logic in place but at the end of the day, I just love a lot of games! And so it helps control things, but it doesn't prevent my collection from filling fast. It's a good problem to have though, it means we're drowning in fun options!

Thanks! RNG was kind to me with the variety haha, I was worried it wouldn't be like, 3 very similar PS2 games going in :P
