Almost 14 years ago and it's the same familiar everything (table, sitting posture, background, friends...). Thanks for sticking with it all these years.
Watching this video 10 years later...good stuff!! So many good titles for the Dreamcast. I can’t help but think piracy contributed to the short life of the system.
I still remember being young and just sitting down and playing shenmue and just loving it. i would play it for hours. I still have my dreamcast sitting beside me ready to be played
13 years later but… I’ll never forget plugging the Dreamcast into a Sony trinitron with the S-Video and as soon as I saw the boos screen with the Dreamcast swirl I was amazed at the color. Still the biggest single leap in gaming for me.
Dreamcast is my favourite console of all time. SO many amazing nostalgic gaming memories associated with it. Even though you knew it was doomed once the PS2 came out. I still play my Dreamcast today in 2021, WAY more than I play my PS2. Such a fantastic library of game too!
I have great memories about getting my dreamcast too. I remember playing Soul Calibre for the first time and being completely blown away by what i was seeing. So many great games on what was for me the greatest console ever. Thanks for the nostalgia trip
It's pretty stunning that Bob and Doug McKenzie's signature way of speaking (two fictional characters on SCTV over 30 years ago) sparked this phenomena where citizens of USA firmly believe that that's how Canadians actually talk. And this stereotype has lasted these 30+ years. Quite stunning indeed.
Porco-Dio FIlm Uh.. no. That's like saying everyone from USA is a product of incestial conception. Stereotypes don't always equal truth. Usually they are fabricated by fiction and extreme exaggerations in pop culture.
JanetStarChild I lived in Canada for three years, mate. Hate to burst your bubble but it's the truth, a lot of Canadians say eh, I didn't fucking say "all" now did I ? Deal with it, who cares anyway ?
The Dreamcast was like the NEOGEO in a way. It was the same hardware as the arcade hardware. (NAOMI). After the Dreamcast went under, I went to Dave and Busters. People were playing games like Ferrari F355, Virtua Tennis, and Crazy Taxi like they were going out of stlye! Killer memories guys!
Great memories guys! I was so hyped for the Dreamcast back in 1999. I remember being blown away the first time I saw Soul Calibur being played on a kiosk at EB Games.
The Dreamcast will always hold a special place in my heart. I remember my parents renting one for me from Blockbuster with Sonic Adventure & Blue Stinger. Ended up getting one that Christmas and still play it to this day. Truly ahead of its time.
thumbs up for the enthusiasm on such a great system! i told my mom one summer "i'm bored, i think i'll buy a dreamcast" later that week i bought my first dreamcast!
My god guys... I feel the same. My Dreamcast experience does not compare at all to any other console I've ever owned in the past. Not only was it so advanced for its time.. but it also had an absolutely magnificent library of games. Thanks for this video... it reminded me of how special that winter was for me (I was in Europe, haha) Btw.. SUBSCRIBED! I love you guys!
The dreamcast must have had the best ratio of good/bad games of any system, I cant recall any that were truly dreadful. So many great games, the sonic adventure games, crazy taxi, shenmue, soul caliber, toy commander, revolt, the one like wipeout but with hoverboards, snow surfers, jet grind radio, dynamite cop etc. Everything about the system oozed quality, from the great joypads with vmu to the built in modem. If only it had a dvd drive, i think thats what gave sony the edge with the ps2. My day 1 launch model still works perfectly and due to the lack of copy protection can play any of the 100`s of game iso`s floating around online, so building up a nice library is easy. I even have a motion controlled fishing rod controller for it (years before the wii). One of the best consoles ever.
Not sure I would call the controllers great. Many people find it to be uncomfortable, it has a slippery analog, and for some reason only has 4 face buttons. The VMU slot was pretty neat though, and I loved how certain titles had minigames you could play on the VMU itself. But yeah, an amazing launch with probably the best lifetime ratio of good versus bad games. It's a shame this system couldn't save Sega, because they had done almost everything right.
one of my favorite older episodes! rewatching this one again because I'm finally picking up a Dreamcast of my own in a week! I was only 5-6 when the console came out but I probably played the system a bit in the early 2000s, now I can't wait to own one all these years later. Love your show guys, much love!
I was a sophomore in high school when I went to the midnight launch at 9/9/99. The graphics of Soul Calibur just blew me away, especially when I connected the system to my computer monitor via VGA. Incredible system.
I'm WAY younger than you guys but the Dreamcast is actually the very first home console I ever saw, and it was such a bizarre thing. I must have been 4 or 5 and we went over to a family friend's house, who had a guy living with them who had the console and the box in his room. I can never forget how awesome that box looked, with the photo of the Earth and the light coming up from behind it. I didn't play any DC games until long after but man that might be the most amazing console box I've ever seen to this day.
Watching you two go on about your childhood makes me so envious. :) Of course we had some great experiences with my friends as well, but usually I was the one that was most excited about everything and never quite had a friend to match me. You guys had each other. :)
I didn't get mine until around 2001, I didn't have that many games (Sonic Adventure, Sonic Shuffle, and Crazy Taxi). Oh man, I remember I actually played this alot more than N64 at the time as well. It's a shame it didn't do pretty well, but at least Sega still make games.
another dreamcast classic and also my all time favorite jrpg that i find myself revisiting every few years is skies of arcadia. again top of the class story and amazing and memorable soundtrack!
You should see my Dreamcast collection, its ridiculous. I have 18 Dreamcasts (different versions), nearly every accessory released, and every game ever made (legitimate copies). I've done a lot of videos on them, but I did the math. Were I to make one video a day, it'd take me nearly three years to show everything.
i just cant stop smiling right now =D you guys really know how to tell an awesome story in the right way and make us smile^^ i love the dreamcast too *-*
That was a really good memory. Very entertaining and I can't believe Rob Man's brother let him borrow the Dreamcast just like that and take it back on the plane.
excellent video! the dreamcast is still my favorite system of all time. in the US it released on 9/9/99 which was my 16th birthday. you better believe my spoiled ass got one! i was into skateboarding at the time so i got trickstyle and sonic with it. WOW both games were just incredible. over the past few months i got it back out and again an manage to play my dreamcast on a daily basis. currently working my way through grandia 2. what an incredible system!
This was a fun memories episode! Yes, I got a dreamcast, powerstone and sonic on day one release! Having a dreamcast was like having a capcom arcade in your living room! Ahhhh memories!
Great video guys, love the enthusiasm you both have for the Dreamcast. I loved my PSone so much I passed on the system and waited for the PS2 and its DVD player. I was always jealous of my brothers Dreamcast games like Soul Calibur, Skies of Arcadia, etc.
Exactly how I feel about the dreamcast. But the memories always come with a little bit of pain, because I remember the way I felt with shenmue and how it was dropped. Man I'd break down crying if they would finally announce Shenmue III !
Great stories, fellas. The Dreamcast was the last system I got excited about. I remember picking mine up, just like it was yesterday. I got mine after I arrived in Okinawa, Thanksgiving '98. I bought VF3, Dynamite Deka and Sonic with it. I was blown away!
You guys are great the way you guys talk about the Dreamcast makes me think about when I got the PS2! Rock on you guys are full of energy and fun to watch!
You guys keep suprising me with your awesome videos. I love hearing where you were when the systems came out......makes me think where i was at the time. Rock on. Oh and happy new year from down under to both of you.
I love when the Canadian leaks out of you, Johnny. It's very rare but... It's beautiful. I was born in 95. As a kid my brother's friend brought over a Dreamcast and Sonic Adventure 2. I will always remember being blown away. I grew up on NES and eventually 64. I believe my family hadn't had the 64 for long when that friend brought over the dreamcast. The graphics were so much better than Mario Kart and Smash Bros. I just bought a Dreamcast last month. Been playing Tony Hawk 2. What a cool little system. If only Sega hadn't messed up so bad. I'd have loved to see more games on Dreamcast.
the dreamcast was so ahead of its time.the vmu, online, the graphics but the games are what it was all about .shenmue. sonic. house of the dead so many more I played mine a few weeks ago got it when it launched great times
I remember how awesome the 2K sports games were on this. Going from Quarterback Club on the 64 to NFL 2K...I was totally blown away. Also Grandia II was amazing on Dreamcast. I wish the system had had more success, it definitely deserved it.
2k sports revolutionized sport games !! all their games were a notch better than madden or any other games!! i wished sega would be in the market still producing consoles.......they had the craziest library of gsmes wen on the market in my opinion!!
Gwen Salador Yea man it is a shame that Madden snatched up the exclusive license. They knew when 2K5 came out they had serious competition. Especially with the price difference. They couldnt afford to let 2K keep competing. I fuckin loved the 2K games. Used to play them over the madden franchise. I like madden as well though, but I really enjoyed 2K. I wish they could get back into the football market.
Carter Redford Man I love Grandia 2. It was one of my favorite rpgs back in the day. I unfortunately no longer have my Sega Dreamcast or else I would play it right now lol. I could have bought it on the ps2, but just doesnt look nearly as good.
I saw the Dreamcast at E3 that year. Realease was 9.9.99 I took the day off. I got 4 or 5 games on release day as well as controllers and VMUs. I have 3 or 4 systems now. 8 controllers with matching VMUSs for the colors etc. Probably 70 games. I still love it and now have a place to hook it up again.
Dreamcast was only system I ever got the first day it came out too. I remember saving up 1,000$ for it & spending 800$ on games, controllers & memory cards. I still love so many of the games for it & I still play my Dreamcast today....GREAT VID!!!
talking about a gaming summer, I know me and my friends had our best gaming summer playing Phantasy Star Online... over dial up... that game owned my summer when it came out... so much love for my dreamcast
thanks for these great stories. me I will never forget the dreamcast either and in fact I was just playing it some minutes ago. power stone thanks to this video! I got one at european launch from my mom and remember being impressed by the graphics and gameplay. I had ready to rumble boxing and virtua fighter 3. I've never seen a bigger revolution in a new generation as with the dreamcast
LOVELY MEMORIES im from argentina, and a friend of mine bought the sega dreamcast in japan. It was something totally new here. And i remember i spent a wole week liveing in his home locked in the room doing nothing, but playing SEGA DREAMCAST ALL DAY LONG!!!
Blows me away today how an old DC can still work been around the block few times . Compared to Consoles now days i went through 17 Original XBOXs & 20 XBOX 360s . I pop in Hydro Thunder the other day on My DC works like a Charm. You gotta love craftsmanship back in the days they cared about what they was putting out & took pride in their work . Still have My Father's Atari 2600 with all the games , controllers , & everything STILL works . Classic Consoles FTW !!!!
Wonderful video! The strongest nostalgic feelings I have is for the Dreamcast, even though the 2600/800XL were the systems from my youth. It's the only system I've bought at launch (had it preordered 4 or 5 months before release.) And it was just too good! Brought it over to a friend's, played some Power Stone, TrickStyle and more. It had a short but exciting life, and still lives on today with new games. Just awesome, thanks for sharing your memories, it brought back some of my own! :)
Anyone remember Tech Romancer? One of the best fighting games I have ever played. Grandia 2 and that game made me realize why the Dreamcast is still a legend amongst hardcore gamers - that system was packed with awesomeness!
I bought about half a dozen Blue Stinger games from various locations over a 2 year period in 2000 - 2002... none of them worked!!! how weird was that, and i had a pretty extensive dreamcast collection.
Oh man. A buddy and I took the megacd to a software etc months before the segacd came out. We contacted a local newspaper guy who did articles on games and he came by to see the unit in action. That day was so cool. We had lots of people asking questions and trying out the games earnest Evans, sol feace, lunar.... Good times
To me, Dreamcast was ahead of it's time with online play, burned DVD play capability and amazing colors mixed with smooth play. I miss my Dreamcast and was quite psyched when Sega announced a possible successor to it at an E3 event. They showed a blue spiral logo at the end of a presentation, everyone went nuts.
This story made me feel the way I felt when I first got a PS2. Too bad the Dreamcast died the way it did. It still sounds like an awesome console to own for retro gaming. :)
LOL.... it's funny remembering how much Rob spent on the Dreamcast at launch, "..Over $500 dollars..." Man oh man, I was in line to buy the PS3 when it came out, $599 and no games, nor second controller. LOL. My how times have changed. I love these videos guys, please keep it up.
Getting a Dreamcast was the greatest gaming day of my life, I got Sonic and Blue Stinger, faked illness at school for a week and left my room only for the toilet and food. My fave games on it are Shenmue, Street Fighter 3 and SEga Rally. Great times, I wish there would be a Dreamcast 2, will never happen, but still nice to have dreams!
I still have that black Dreamcast shirt sealed in a bag, lol. I also have almost that exact same story about EB Games. Now I'm wondering if Sega had some sort of promotional thing going on where they would just send someone along to random stores to set up the console and show it off. Kinda makes sense if you consider the bad taste they left in a lot of retailers mouths with the super early Saturn launch.
I only got a Dreamcast 3 years ago - my brother lent me all of his consoles and games while he was moving and when he was finished he just told me to keep it. Couldn't believe it - I got a DC with two controllers and two VMUs as well as Shenmue 1&2, Phantasy Star, Headhunter, Tomb Raider, GTA2, Vanishing Point and some other games... I was almost glad when I got sick during the next holidays so I had to stay in my room xD
I remember my 1st dreamcast! i bought it in the summer of '99 with part of my high school graduation money. I bought the system with sonic adventure, marvel vs capcom and an official arcade stick! sonic adventure was the first import game i could actually comprehend the japanese and actually finish 100%. i even had a blast playing bigg's fishing levels. i still think it was the greatest system of the decade!! it had it all. as a fighting game fan it was the best place for my fix!
oh man i still remember in the the 7th grade when a guy that sat in front of me in homeroom class shown me a gamepro book with sonic adventure 1..it blew me away ...then a few years later one of my older brothers had a dreamcast with phantasy star online ep 1. nobody else that i knew played that game longer than i did ...i even have the soundtrack to this day , , incredible game , i really hope that i find ep 1 and 2 for the gamecube .
i just found your channel and i would like to say that it is great, i subscribed instantly and i CANT stop watching your videos! (i just ordered my dreamcast from ebay together with jet set radio (brand new) after watching this video)
I've had a move around in my house as Im now using my HDTV as a screen for my PC on my desk - all my consoles are sort of sitting to the side of me waiting thier turn to be called upon - but the Dreamcast is still right there in front of my screen. How I love that system. I'd really recommend it to anyone who's never had one and looks at these videos and goes "Hmm!" SO many great arcade games! Its good to discover older systems - I never had a Saturn at the time, so I have a yen for that now..
I still remember the first time I played Dreamcast - renting it from Blockbuster a week before retail availability. Just amazing, playing Sonic Adventure, Soul Calibur and Ready 2 Rumble Boxing for the first time. Such an amazing console.
January 2002, i bought a dreamcast with 2 controllers, 1vmu, 10 games for $65. at that time it was shattered so badly and gamestop dropped the prices in half over night. (maybe it was funcoland at the time...) i couldn't stop playing all the racing games. way too much fun and i still prize my dreamcast. worth every penny
That $500 didn't only get you an amazing system but also some awesome memories that will forever stay with you. Those are worth the price alone.
Such a fantastic library of game too!
its nice to see these 2 friends thinking about old times, makes me smile.
god bless you 2
One of my first ever Happy Console Gamer videos. So awesome!
What a great way to sum up the Dreamcast, Power Stone
Thank you guys for making this video! The Dreamcast is so underrated, and you hit my nostalgia for it right on the head...love it!
Best console ever.
.
I have great memories about getting my dreamcast too. I remember playing Soul Calibre for the first time and being completely blown away by what i was seeing. So many great games on what was for me the greatest console ever. Thanks for the nostalgia trip
The Best nostalgia Console of All Time. Truly Revolutionary.
We were never shocked that it failed, as it mostly brought arcade ports, but we have a lot of great memories with this machine, too!
Thumbs up strictly because Johnny finally said "eh".

Dreamcast + VGA + Soul Calibur blew our minds in '99
The Dreamcast was like the NEOGEO in a way. It was the same hardware as the arcade hardware. (NAOMI). After the Dreamcast went under, I went to Dave and Busters. People were playing games like Ferrari F355, Virtua Tennis, and Crazy Taxi like they were going out of stlye! Killer memories guys!

i have over 200 thousnad games on my computer ...everything from 1971- September 2023
Still love hearing these memories. I just put up video #3 of my Dreamcast series as I go for a complete set! The memories are priceless!
gaming memories, aahhh I like this type of videos, I like listening to people's story on a game.

another dreamcast classic and also my all time favorite jrpg that i find myself revisiting every few years is skies of arcadia. again top of the class story and amazing and memorable soundtrack!
I always thought the console itself was beautiful. really sleek, sharp angles and stylish. Even today I think its probably the most handsome console.

Are they all still working?
@@mr.horseshoe2301 Yes.
@@AdamKoralik That's awesome. My launch system doesn't read discs anymore. RIP. I'll do some research about replacing the laser assembly.
i just cant stop smiling right now =D you guys really know how to tell an awesome story in the right way and make us smile^^ i love the dreamcast too *-*
That was a really good memory. Very entertaining and I can't believe Rob Man's brother let him borrow the Dreamcast just like that and take it back on the plane.

great job you guys. you always bring so much energy to these gaming vids :)

Mk Gold? That was a pretty awesome game man!
Grandia 2 and that game made me realize why the Dreamcast is still a legend amongst hardcore gamers - that system was packed with awesomeness!
i'm so jealous how you guys are so into gaming, and how excitingly you talked about it,
I lose this kind of feeling since ps2s' era,
Great video
I bought about half a dozen Blue Stinger games from various locations over a 2 year period in 2000 - 2002... none of them worked!!! how weird was that, and i had a pretty extensive dreamcast collection.
Oh man. A buddy and I took the megacd to a software etc months before the segacd came out. We contacted a local newspaper guy who did articles on games and he came by to see the unit in action. That day was so cool. We had lots of people asking questions and
trying out the games earnest Evans, sol feace, lunar....
Good times
To me, Dreamcast was ahead of it's time with online play, burned DVD play capability and amazing colors mixed with smooth play. I miss my Dreamcast and was quite psyched when Sega announced a possible successor to it at an E3 event. They showed a blue spiral logo at the end of a presentation, everyone went nuts.
thank you for finally making a dreamcast video. i had mine hooked up earlyer
Got mine on release day here in the u.k and i still play it now and again, brilliant machine with some great games.
This story made me feel the way I felt when I first got a PS2. Too bad the Dreamcast died the way it did. It still sounds like an awesome console to own for retro gaming. :)
Sonic Adventure is my favourite game of all time.
*****
Maybe later...
+BlackPhillip No, you need to accept that people have personal opinions and they will not always coincide with yours...assclown.
I played my dreamcast just yesterday. I played WWF Royal Rumble, Virtua tennis and NFL 2K2. Good Times. I have a cable to hook it up to a vga monitor.
Robman’s shirt is so fuckin fire
Wow, look how baby faced you guys are. I love diving into your older videos!
Love my Dreamcasts! I still have 3 of them!
Dreancast, one of the best consoles of all time and my favorite!
I remember when I was about 8, my moms boyfriend bought us a dreamcast. i have lots of nostalgia with this console.
Powerstone was great...we gatherd around a sofa with friends and six pack beer...good old times!
LOL.... it's funny remembering how much Rob spent on the Dreamcast at launch, "..Over $500 dollars..."
Man oh man, I was in line to buy the PS3 when it came out, $599 and no games, nor second controller.
(i just ordered my dreamcast from ebay together with jet set radio (brand new) after watching this video)
underrated system.
THIS REVIEW made me bring out my Dreamcast after over a year of not playing. Thank you.
i love the way the dreamcast looks.i just want a closet full of dreamcast.they just look so...cool
I loved the dreamcast. Its my favorite console, it was way ahead of its time. I loved using the VMU to choose plays in NFL2K.
I actually never got to play the Dreamcast until after the PS2's launch, but I still fell in love with it even though it was supposed to be obsolete.
