Cycling Colombia's Death Road // A Bike Touring Short Film // Part 27 - Colombia

  • After leaving Colombia's coffee region and cycling through the Valle del Cauca, we headed back into the mountains and across the Andes once again, this time taking the notorious "Trampolín de la Muerte", Colombia's death road!
    Also known as "Trampolín del Diablo" (Devil's trampoline) or "Adiós mi vida" (Bye bye my life), the 60+ km dirt road between San Francisco and Mocoa, in the very south of Colombia, has claimed quite a few lives over the years.
    Apparently, in 2011 alone, over 500 people died on the death road, mainly from landslides pushing vehicles over the edge.
    Nowadays, the road has become somewhat of a tourist attraction, particularly for (motor)cyclists, as it offers spectacular views of the Andes mountains and a challenging ride... something we can definitely confirm!

    just love your videos,.... I've watched them all up to this point....almost caught up with you two now. Just so much amazing footage, your viewers would never other wise get to see. One sad point tho, I have to say... must be very hard to say goodby to some of your wonderful hosts, knowing you will never see each other again.

    I enjoyed this video. I can't believe you got to ride it in the sun. I experienced incredible rain when I did it five years ago. I started on the Mocoa side and slept in a dirty shed at the military checkpoint because it was raining so hard when I got there I couldn't leave.

    I'll be living in Colombia next year and have to check into this route. In the dry season if possible. The landslides are called derrumbes. I've traveled a lot north of there, from Medellin north to the Uraba region, and the road is often closed because of mudslides. They are building the road into a four lane highway, with a lot of tunnels to protect sections that are prone to mudslides. The traffic is really crazy there so I am not recommending it as a bike route. The one you went on is in a region I've never been to and looks a lot more peaceful.

    Hello,
    I'll just write it here spontaneously, even if it's not related to the video.
    I'm really happy right now. I found your channel a long time ago. I liked that very much. And then I lost him. I googled for hours with all kinds of words I could think of and watched a lot of channels, but you weren't anywhere. At some point I gave up sadly.
    And,
    TH-cam is just showing you in its suggestions. I am very pleased. Go to sleep now but I'm really looking forward to your videos of your journey. Greetings Bernhard

    Welches Zelt findet ihr soweit am Besten?

    • @louisaandtobi
      @louisaandtobi  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wir sind mit dem Forclaz Trek 900 (MT-900) von Decathlon ziemlich zufrieden. Hat ca. die gleichen Dimensionen wir teurere Zelte (z.B. von MSR) und ist qualitativ auch gut. Bisher hatten wir nur das Problem, dass die Reißverschlüsse irgendwann aufgeben, und haben sie tauschen lassen. Aber das Problem haben wohl viele Zelte.

    What was it that attracted you to South America? ...was it the grinding poverty...the political corruption and instability...the obvious risk to your personal safety? It seems to me that there is often a fine line between an adventurous spirit and simple stupidity.
