    I use use a light weight nylon tarp to cover my bike (s) in camp and when shopping. It also makes a nice sun shade a porch roof for the tent. Split the tent and fly is a good idea. Keep the fly with quick and easy reach incase you get caught in a storm and put you and your bike under the fly. A wet tent can be difficult in the stuff sack that came with it. I use slightly larger stuff bag for fast packing and pull it out at lunch to dry. I'm not a fan of super light tents. or tarps they just tend to fail when you need them the most.

    Thanks for this verry interisting video!
    Delamination of sleeping mats is a common problem, for this reason I personally use only Therm a Rest mats for there lifetime warranty. For ground protection I prefere a sheed of Tyvek hard structure what is way lighter and stronger, and it is relatively cheap. After years with down filled sleeping bags, I am done with down and changed from sleeping bags to quilts with a filling from Apex Clima Shield. I find this a lot easyer and the warmth to weight ratio is probably the best of all synthetic filling materials. Plus, this Quilts are instantly warm and don t need time to loft, it is washable and still warm even when wet or damp. With a Quilt I tend to sleep more comfortable and I save some weight.

    I'm a solo rider but like having a 2 person tent. I put all my pannier inside at night along with my electronics, cpap, water etc. I use my panniers as a back elevator so I'm not laying flat. I put them under my air mattress near my head and back. I like lots of room. My tent is large but lightweight at about 1 kg. When I pack up, I don't fold anything. I stuff. It's faster and works real well for me. I do fold up the air mattress though. Thanks for sharing your sleeping method. Love your videos.

      @@louisaandtobi The Big Agnes Fly Creek HV UL 2. It weighs about 2 lbs, 5 oz or about 1.05 kg. That's the packaged weight. The actual pitch weight is only 1 lb, 7 oz. I've been very happy with the tent and used it for 1100 km of a PCT hike and on a 12000 km tour. It's still holding up well. It's the lightest double wall tent I could find.

    Hey you 2. Super enjoying this and your other videos! Super helpful and love your low price utilitarian style! Comfort and practicality is where its at! (With a little whimsy thrown in. You it's guitar, me my knitting! ) I have a Kona Sutra Touring Bike. Because I tend to overload it, I have broken rear spokes. Double Arkel panniers tent on back and nothing on front. I am thinking I will switch to 36 spoke 700C wheels and carry some on the front with racks. Thanks for sharing and stimulating my revisions! Love your energy between the two of you and attitude attitude towards the adventures of life! Long, safe and happy may you roll!!

      Definetly do carry more on the front. Back heavy is more popular because it’s, well… cheaper. You need a proper fork to carry decent weight in the front in panniers, but there are rear racks for all bikes. It’s also more common and traditional so there’s more ‘pressure’ per se, to carry on the back. But really any bike Can handle handlebar bags, randonneur front racks and bags, and even small fork bags. I got these newboler fork bags from china for 40€ both (3L), and they lasted well and I use them on all my bikes (touring, cyclocross and mtb).
      It’s cheaper per liter to get a rear setup, but the front loaded handling is sooo much better most of the time.
      I also strongly recommend bikepacking bags like the decathlon saddle harness and any frame bag. Cheers :)

    Very good set up what I’ve noticed is that many couples and families that cycle tour all kind of pack the similar way i.e. Each person carries their own personal gear their own clothes and sleep system, maybe share the food and even split the tent. Even though they’re traveling together and going to the same place I found doing that way There was a lot of unpacking, especially setting up camp and then packing in the morning. The way I found that works is there’s three main categories food sleep system and clothes, so the way I’ve done it is I carry all the clothes for the three of us my partner, she carries all the sleep system, and our son carries the kitchen and food. Then each core system of our my bikes and my partners bike we carry everything we need personally throughout the ride that day ie camera gear, water, maintenance drones change of clothes for the climate change while riding so basically our core setup up is what we personally need during the ride..

    • @thehairs1970
      @thehairs1970 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Interesting idea re splitting the types of gear BUT how does that stop packing and unpacking? I split my rear panniers with one having clothes and things I need in the evening. The other has my sleeping bag, mat, chair, gas. Front panniers hold things I need on the go - first aid kit, tool kit, charging stuff. I leave room for food in these. Handlebar bag has valuables, logbook, maps etc. Tent tends to go on the back rack but can go in the pannier if need be. As the tent is nearly always the first thing to do at a site, having it on top is useful. My other half carries our kitchen - stove, pan sets, cutlery and glasses (yes, glasses -wine tastes better out of a glass).

      Thanks for the feedback and insight. There are definitely a couple of good ways to sort camping, etc. gear on a bike. To us our way makes most sense, as we only need to open one pannier to setup the tent and can unpack the rest of our camping gear from inside the tent.

I am very satisfied with the quality of Decathlon in general, if you ever decide that you dó want a head pillow I would advise their memory foam pillow, it is almost as good as my tempur pillow at home, I even take it with me when I am staying in a hotel because usually its better than the hotel pillows. Nice video! I agree with your choice of tent ... and I also don't see the point of those expensive tents, that will last just as long as a cheap tent. I have a Naturehike tent, and I am super happy with it. Your tip to use a sleeping bag liner is great, I have to get one of those, that would really help me stay warmer at night. So thanks, and ... Hi thanks for the videos, sorry that there is the moisture problem, perhaps the bag is too warm however definitely don't have water or wind resistant fabric on sleeping bags if always using a good tent, perhaps a foot only. And that is a big if! And that is the problem deciding to sacrifice the versatility. Also perhaps try hydrating more in the morning? Or perhaps all could be solved with a larger tapering tunnel tent that urltilizes chimney characteristics to cycle air through the tent the warmer it is inside the tent.

    • @louisaandtobi
      @louisaandtobi  ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s probably a combination of several factors. The sleeping bag is very warm, the waterproof outer fabric doesn’t help and for sure a larger tent with more air circulation would help. But larger tents again have other drawbacks.

      It’s still holding up pretty well, waterproof, etc. Only thing is the zippers on the inner tent stopped working properly recently so we had them replaced here in Bolivia for $8, now it works great again. 😅 But zippers failing on tents seems to be a common problem, as we’ve seen it on tents from different brands as well.

    Ah ah, yes i do every thing differently! I use a folding bicycle because it can go easy on planes, boat, canoe, lancha, bus, taxi and ....waguin pull by bulls or horses ....if needed.
    And it has been on all those modes of transportation !
    I enjoy only tropical countries so i don t have that much sleeping gears. I don t also camp as much as you do. Rooms are cheap where i travel, between $5 and $10 on average. And i have gears to make cheap room very comfortable.
    The front wheel is where all my luggages are.
    The back wheel support my motor, gas tank, tools and everything needed to ride on flat roads as well on mountain ones and the electric cooler i like to have.
    The center of the frame has the battery packs for the lights, the stainless juice bottle, the rain kit and feet holder because i like having my foot in high position. I also have a suspension spring for the seat. Makes a big difference.
    I recently added the watercell x 4 liters to have a hot shower in the wild.
    I will get a similar burning stove as yours because you made a good review about it and i already use gas and also the x folding pot to heat up the water for the shower.
    I don t know when i m gonna travel again. Not vaccinated, i m a prisoner of my own country ! And i will never get vaccinated.........

    Just noticed that your ground tarp is wrongly laid out.
    Ground tarps are only really used for protection for your tent from the debris on the ground.
    If...It rains, your ground tarp the way you have it laid out will just be a good rain water collector underneath your tent.
    Thus you will wake up in a big puddle of water.
    Instead...fold your ground tarp so that none of it sticks out past the tent, yet it still protects your tent from debris on the ground.
    Don't feel bad, a lot of people make this common mistake when setting up the tarp in relation to the tent.
    I hope you will see this obvious mistake and make the adjustment next time.
    Or...continue to lay your tarp in the way you have, and experience the rain puddle underneath your tent next time it rains on you.

    • @louisaandtobi
      @louisaandtobi  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      We don't mention it in the video, but as you can see at 0:58, for example, we do actually fold in the tarp at night. The front section of the tarp we fold out again in the morning though so we can stand on it / place things on it without it getting dirty from the ground. 😉

      For getting in and out of the tent a tarp makes a nice entry floor to keep from tracking dirt and leaves into the tent. If it looks like rain, you can tuck it under the tent. I have used my large heavy duty dry bag that travels on top of my rear rack, for an entry mat. I don't worry about puncturing it. The dry bag is also my washing machine on layover days.
