funny how a 16 bit pixel game developed by a single guy is ranked first, over all that 3d and million dollar budget projects. We don't want complicated crap. We need the developers to put their hearts into making a good game instead of making games with the sole purpose to grab money. If we feel the love, your revenue will come. Hell even rank 2, minecraft, started as 1 man project. I am very glad at times like these we can still find games made with passion and by people who truly understand what gamers want.
Just say stardew valley next time. Lol but seriously it is my favorite game of all time. I took paid time off work just to have extra time to play it. I'm beyond hooked. I have the game on mobile and switch. I'm honestly upset that I just now started playing this masterpiece as of one week ago.

I purchased it back at the beginning of 2020, played it for about 3-4 before getting really frustrated with the games mechanics on switch, and the fact that it kinda didn't give you many incentives for the first couple of hours of the game made me quickly bored and decided to put it aside. A week ago, after my university deadlines, I really wanted to play something and while I was having a youtuber's Startdew Valley gameplay in the background I decided to give it another go. I have now 55 hours on this game all in one week, by the end of spring you get the gist of all the mechanics and game quest. As a sucker for romance I absolutely love the social aspect of the game and the romancing of some characters. I'm already on the third year in the game, but I put myself some limits and waiting at least till summer of the third year to get my character married and only having a child when I consider the game exhausted. Once you pick up the pace, it's really worth it. I truly regret not thinking of this game earlier this year when I had an operation and was bed ridden for about two months, it would have been the perfect way to spend my time.
Don't purchase harvest moon light of hope, the game is bad, really bad, and the company that is making games using the Harvest Moon name, is not the company that give us the amazing previous HM games. The real saga that we love, is now goes by the name STORY OF SEASONS, and the real company is Marvelous inc and XSeed. Natsume is just damaging the name of HM, making mediocre games :'C.
Actually, from what I've researched (it's probably been a year or more, so sorry if I'm wrong) the company that made Harvest Moon Light of Hope (Natsume) and the company that made Story of Seasons (Marvelous inc) used to work together and made the entire Harvest Moon franchise back in the day. At some point they came to a disagreement and split up, making their own games. Nastusme had rights to the franchise name, but not the actual game play while Marvelous inc had rights to the game play, but not the name. So technically, HMLoH is canon for the HM series even though it's basically a totally different game.
@@darkraveness Natsume only did the translation part, but as you say, unfortunately they win the name, so yes HMLoH technically is canon only by name. But the true flavor, the game we use to like, are no going by the name of Story of Seasons. This only happens on this side of the world, cuz in Japan the game still has the original name (bokujou monogatari /ushi no tame)
@@darkraveness You also can't find the old Harvest Moon games under the name "Harvest Moon" anymore. If you google HM they only show you the ones Natsume developed. The old games go by the name "Story of Seasons" now, so they technically "renamed" the old games. Because of that the old HM games don't count as Harvest Moon games anymore. 😊
I wish Fantasy Life would come to switch! That was the most amazing DS game I ever played! Portia seems like one of those games that just drops you in the deep end and expects you to figure it out. Still at the very beginning and can't figure out how to progress, going to have to restart and watch walkthrough to figure out where to go next as everywhere seems to be blocked (when I can be bothered to pick it up again)... glad I brought it on sale. Same with Stardew, dropped me into a vast world with no help. Also Re:legends and Farm Folks don't seem to be available on the UK switch store and the Doraemon series art style (those stupid eyes..) irritates me so not going to bother trying that one lol
I thought about that... I figured Snack World Dungeon Crawler was going to be similar to Fantasy Life, but I was dead wrong... (It was purely a dungeon Crawler with enemies that had certain "banes/weaknesses" like a Pokémon game...)
I'm almost at the end of my time at portia. In the beginning I got so frustrated, exactly what you were saying, it drops you in a world and provides no explanation. I had to google so many things. Once I started figuring things out it was a blast, I played it all day everyday. The problem is there are a lot of bugs on switch. From items on the ground not showing up, game crashing, and getting stuck inside missions that unless you google and find the specific answer, you have to restart the day which is a pain. Now at the end of the game theres not much to do. I'm not a completionist, although I do like to experience everything once. The storyline drags on without much plot and once the game becomes automated (new high tech crafting machines etc) theres nothing to do. Honestly I do like the game, but definitely a resort to it when you're bored kind of thing. :/ they are making a sequal spring of this year and I really hope it's better...
Fantasy life was so good! Such a nice storyline ending! Great you could continue it after the storyline ended and that you can switch jobs and stuff aaah
Portia does tell you what to do, you just need to read the dialogue and notes. I've only had to look up a few things, like where to find certain materials. What's most frustrating about that game, that in order to craft certain things, you need to craft like ten different things first. That's what is annoying to me personally. I'll have something almost ready, but then have to craft three more things to make one item. Plus, the characters are a little goofy looking
Whew Chile. Rune Factory 4 is a masterpiece of a farming game which fantastically implements action and has major character depth for all main and side characters, a touching storyline and a rich variety of ever changing dialogue with all characters. The game never gets its flowers for some reason. I still play it on my Nintendo 3DS 8 years later. Not only did a lot of time and creativity go into the creation of this game (because replay value is immense - this game has crazy depth), it was created by the pioneers of farming sim games. Do everyone a favor and add RF4 Special to your list please.
What else do you play? I’m here trying to find new stuff. RF4 and stardew valley are my 2 favorite games ever. Hated animal crossing, not a fan of my time at Portia & SOS pioneers of olive town was meh. I need recommendations 😭 also loved BOTW and littlewood
@@brooklyntini4678 pretty much stuff from here and there... skyrim, path of exile, dungeon defenders.... i dont really have "genre" that i dont play (mostly i play roleplaying games) other than i REALLY dont like just shooting/war games... my time at portia is quite fine game if you go at it your own pace (-that 1 thing that happens later no spoilers) as insomniac i have bad habit of playing 1 game ~2-3days till i finally get sleep at all time then i "take break" and move for next game and keep doing that :P and no animal crossing is not for me either :P
@@Shinarock Oh no.. 😟 I remember having the hardest time getting events to unlock as well. I typically will keep the character with me that you’re trying to trigger an event for. Save the game at night right before bed. Go to sleep. If they disappear, there more than likely is an event and you can leave your home to check and see. If not, restart. Rinse. Repeat. It is annoying. 🤦🏽♀️

I actually tried out Summer in Mara, because of this video....I did not particularly enjoy it though. There's two halves, farming and adventuring. Fans of adventuring will be disappointed, because they never ramp up the action or danger. You don't even have stormy weather, or anything to avoid when you sail, it's usually just a straight line. Fans of farming sims will be disappointed, because the farming is so separated from the rest of the game (you literally have to sail to an island, and sail back home just to farm). And if you run out of water, you have to just wait until it rains. It pulls you out of the game. I would recommend it to people who love fetch quests that ultimately go nowhere.....there's a lot of that. Also, Farm Folks is Definitely not coming out on September. Who told you that???
@@charleswong6523 Yonder might be even better fit for your kid in that case - no monsters at all in that one. It's a purely enjoyable and safe world to run about it with nothing scary, just lovely creatures and environments with adventures talking to people and building things.
Regarding My Time at Portia, I would only suggest buying it on switch if you really HAD to. I would buy it on a platform such as a computer (on steam or epic) because the performance isn’t really the best. I have it both on Steam and Switch so it’s obvious how much injustice it gets on the switch regarding performance and bugs
Some of us actually like them. The latest one actually has some deep moments to it’s story. My favorite parts were helping restore the economy of a local fishing village, and exploring the nearby ghost island and discovering the reason why it was abandoned.

I loved Stardew valley then played a couple of story of seasons ..Trio of Towns on my old DS and Friends of mineral Town on the switch both very enjoyable...but then I played Rune factory 4....This a gem of a game like Stardew. Huge absorbing, an absolutely brilliant sim /RPG . I think the cover art work put me off but the graphics are old style and really attractive. Can't recommend it enough.
I wish there were more Switch games without farming or fighting. Idk what's so fun about farming. I just want a Sims game on the switch that looks like Farm Folks. Why is that too much to ask for 🥺😢 I have ACNH but I need more item availability.

So lemme get this straight... Harvest Moon: Light of Hope is in this list, and Rune Factory 4 isn't? I won't even lie, that's REALLY bad. It's almost a crime. Let me do all of y'all a favor by saying remove Harvest Moon: Light of Hope from your memories, and replace it with Rune Factory 4. Trust me, not only are you getting a fantastic game, but you're also getting rid of a totally garbage game and never having to deal with it again. It's a win-win situation for everyone.
Seeing all these comments hating on Harvest Moon games makes me disgusted. The game isn't actually bad at all, I have it and I was surprised that I actually liked it because it isn't bad. Bashing and hating on the company is so annoying. If you don't like the company because they choose to make the games THEIR way, then don't get the games. People are acting like immature children since the two companies split up 🙄 The ones who are pulling the name and the company into the ground isn't them, it's the hate you all give for no reason

People have already decided to hate on them and their games since they split because they make their games differently and not like how it used to be nor how Marvelous are making their games today. It wouldn't have mattered if they made games similar and just as good then people have already decided that Natsume are the bad guys who make horrible games and that's sad to see because they really don't. If people weren't so closed minded and actually gave the games a chance with an open mind then I'm sure many would think they're not as bad as they make them seem. @Peri It’s a different company making a different game. Technically it’s not the original HM games anymore since it’s a different developer, so not liking it and comparing it to the original as if they are the same series and should have the same expectations is wrong. Sure, the original does look better, but it’s not fair to compare. That’s not genuine criticism. Genuine criticism is based on generalities, not comparisons. Opinions based on comparisons is just hate and personal opinions, not criticism. You can compare a game to the original, I know I do, but don’t forget the actual aspects worth noting as a separate game and not a HM game.
I've been playing Animal Crossing since Wild world and recently got a switch when New Horizons was released. Recently I decided to give some other games a try - I just finished Summer in Mara. I really enjoyed it! It was really relaxing but still gave me rewards for completing quests (also there's cute animals). My Time At Portia on switch was really not that enjoyable for me and I don't plan on playing more after trying for 5 hours. I've read the PC Version is better but I don't know for sure. I would just not recommend the Switch Version. Also both Story of Seasons games out now for Switch were/are great for me. With Doraemon more laid back and FOMT more fast paced it's a good mix. But it gets repetitive quite fast.
I have the pc version and I bought it on the switch because my pc is jacked up, but it sucked so much I haven’t even played for more than 5 min. I absolutely hate it, the graphics look horrible. I highly recommend the pc version
A great list however I do NOT suggest buying my time at portia on the switch, but on the PC if you can. The port is so, so bad. It's the only game I've ever requested a refund for. I've only heard great things about Yonder though. I'll probably try that next to fill the void animal crossing left!
I play Portia on Switch and have logged over 100 hours, no problems. Only thing I’ve struggled with is the wooden elevators (like to Bassanio Heights) where I sometimes fall through, but I can fix that by being on the metal part as you go up and down. Generally still 10/10 on Switch, in my personal opinion!
I bought Yonder and it took me about 5 minutes to begin regretting it. I did play it for a few hours though and while the environments look nice, that's pretty much the best thing I can say about the game. I found the lighting was too strong, light too bright and dark too dark. Day/night cycle flew by wayyy too quickly. Character models are very ugly, and so are the animals I saw too, they look like plastic. And all the quests I saw or completed were just fetch quests, gathering materials and delivering them.
Flute Rocks when it first came out the loading took forever. It was so bad people demanded it be fixed. After a while they improved it and the game got enjoyable. I actually do think maybe it’ll be better on the pc but the switch version is so good.
Flute Rocks I just think that the performance and graphics doesn’t compare to other platforms, the game is not as beautiful and the loading screens take forever. The game however, will always be 10/10
Don't buy summer in Mara, it's an unfinished mess with bugs that happen easily and sometimes randomly that completely remove all your progress and softlock you. Absolute waste of money
Thanks for this amazing compilation! I would also recommend Kitaria Fables, which has been recently released. We love playing that game with my 7 y/o kid almost every day. It is a cute action-adventure RPG with farming and crafting. The search of relics and resources, tend to your farm to grow your own provisions, and take on quests solo or with a friend in local co-op mode! It really helps my kid to improve her skills. I can highly recommend giving a tryout. Sharing my solo gameplays on my TH-cam channel frequently.

Re: YONDER Very beautiful game. It's mainly exploration and crafting though, there is not really a farming element, and it is more about the story, exploration, crafting/LOTS of harvesting, and seeing all of the cute creatures.

I’m playing it rn and I love the game but yeah it has so many issues... idk how to explain it but it runs similar to how the sims 4 runs on my old MacBook 💀 loading screens are long (used to it with sims4 lmao), the frame rate lags quite a bit, the grass is missing, cows are half buried in the ground, etc. So far that’s it for me. I also heard the game sometimes doesn’t save at the end of the night so people have to keep repeating days... Mine was the former and more visual bugs and eh they don’t really bother me so I’m able to get past these issues and enjoy the game. I actually really love it

I am interested in Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons games. One question I have though: are they the standard "once you see the credits, the game's done" type of games or are they like Animal Crossing where you'll see the credits, but the game is never really over? (I don't really care either way, but I'm just curious)
It's still in early access on Steam, so it may be a long while until it comes to switch. Going by reviews it is SUPER buggy in all areas, so it needs a lot of work yet. I'd keep tabs on the steam page for it to see when it releases there and then keep an eye open for when it comes to console.
They all seem awesome! I am so happy to see Harvest Moon Light of Hope on here, it was one of my favorites in high school along with Yonder: The Cloud Catcher Chronicles which is my favorite. :3
I believe the main reason why people don’t like the game is because it’s not the original series, and it’s a knock-off that a translation company only tried to keep going because they had the rights to the title and didn’t want to just waste money not using it. It’s not the same game or series as the original HM and SoS. At least, that’s what I see the majority complain about. In my opinion, the original DOES look better than HM: Light of Hope....gameplay wise and aesthetically pleasing wise. But I wouldn’t say I hate it. It’s probably at least somewhat decent.
I dont have deep connections to who makes the games so I dont think I can fully understand the theory of people not liking something because of who made it or didn't. I thought it was a pleasant game!
Honestly don't bother trying to understand. There are way too many people in the internet from different background, cultures, opinions... The simplest answer is the game drifted from the original games and people don't like change.
RE:Legend and Farm Folks didn't even get finished on Steam yet. RE:Legend is in Early Access Beta. Farm Folks didn't even finish it's closed Alpha. The two won't be released this year and may not come out next year. Putting them on the list is an insult to all the other games that did come out this year on the Switch that are of this genre of game. It's like mocking the fans of the Farming Crafting Genre... they even listed games that didn't even come out this year...

I don't watch these videos much or at all or do research on them just look in store every once in a blue moon. Fantasy Life is one of the most underrated games ever. I would sell my soul for a Switch version.

What else do you play? I’m here trying to find new stuff. RF4 and stardew valley are my 2 favorite games ever. Hated animal crossing, not a fan of my time at Portia & SOS pioneers of olive town was meh. I need recommendations 😭 also loved BOTW and littlewood
@@brooklyntini4678 pretty much stuff from here and there... skyrim, path of exile, dungeon defenders.... i dont really have "genre" that i dont play (mostly i play roleplaying games) other than i REALLY dont like just shooting/war games... my time at portia is quite fine game if you go at it your own pace (-that 1 thing that happens later no spoilers) as insomniac i have bad habit of playing 1 game ~2-3days till i finally get sleep at all time then i "take break" and move for next game and keep doing that :P and no animal crossing is not for me either :P
@@Shinarock Oh no.. 😟 I remember having the hardest time getting events to unlock as well. I typically will keep the character with me that you’re trying to trigger an event for. Save the game at night right before bed. Go to sleep. If they disappear, there more than likely is an event and you can leave your home to check and see. If not, restart. Rinse. Repeat. It is annoying. 🤦🏽♀️

I actually tried out Summer in Mara, because of this video....I did not particularly enjoy it though.
There's two halves, farming and adventuring. Fans of adventuring will be disappointed, because they never ramp up the action or danger. You don't even have stormy weather, or anything to avoid when you sail, it's usually just a straight line. Fans of farming sims will be disappointed, because the farming is so separated from the rest of the game (you literally have to sail to an island, and sail back home just to farm). And if you run out of water, you have to just wait until it rains. It pulls you out of the game.
I would recommend it to people who love fetch quests that ultimately go nowhere.....there's a lot of that.
Also, Farm Folks is Definitely not coming out on September. Who told you that???
Well I guess this is perfectly fit as a game for my 8 years old kiddo that can't handle monster 😂
@@charleswong6523 Yonder might be even better fit for your kid in that case - no monsters at all in that one. It's a purely enjoyable and safe world to run about it with nothing scary, just lovely creatures and environments with adventures talking to people and building things.

Regarding My Time at Portia, I would only suggest buying it on switch if you really HAD to. I would buy it on a platform such as a computer (on steam or epic) because the performance isn’t really the best. I have it both on Steam and Switch so it’s obvious how much injustice it gets on the switch regarding performance and bugs

I don't know why people still advertise Natsume-made Harvest Moon games. They're awfully made and have no soul to them.
Some of us actually like them. The latest one actually has some deep moments to it’s story. My favorite parts were helping restore the economy of a local fishing village, and exploring the nearby ghost island and discovering the reason why it was abandoned.
I was looking for a new game after playing hours of Stardew Valley...seems it's just the best farm game out there :D

I loved Stardew valley then played a couple of story of seasons ..Trio of Towns on my old DS and Friends of mineral Town on the switch both very enjoyable...but then I played Rune factory 4....This a gem of a game like Stardew. Huge absorbing, an absolutely brilliant sim /RPG . I think the cover art work put me off but the graphics are old style and really attractive. Can't recommend it enough.

So lemme get this straight... Harvest Moon: Light of Hope is in this list, and Rune Factory 4 isn't? I won't even lie, that's REALLY bad. It's almost a crime.
Let me do all of y'all a favor by saying remove Harvest Moon: Light of Hope from your memories, and replace it with Rune Factory 4. Trust me, not only are you getting a fantastic game, but you're also getting rid of a totally garbage game and never having to deal with it again. It's a win-win situation for everyone.
Seeing all these comments hating on Harvest Moon games makes me disgusted. The game isn't actually bad at all, I have it and I was surprised that I actually liked it because it isn't bad. Bashing and hating on the company is so annoying. If you don't like the company because they choose to make the games THEIR way, then don't get the games. People are acting like immature children since the two companies split up 🙄 The ones who are pulling the name and the company into the ground isn't them, it's the hate you all give for no reason

People have already decided to hate on them and their games since they split because they make their games differently and not like how it used to be nor how Marvelous are making their games today. It wouldn't have mattered if they made games similar and just as good then people have already decided that Natsume are the bad guys who make horrible games and that's sad to see because they really don't. If people weren't so closed minded and actually gave the games a chance with an open mind then I'm sure many would think they're not as bad as they make them seem. @Peri It’s a different company making a different game. Technically it’s not the original HM games anymore since it’s a different developer, so not liking it and comparing it to the original as if they are the same series and should have the same expectations is wrong. Sure, the original does look better, but it’s not fair to compare. That’s not genuine criticism. Genuine criticism is based on generalities, not comparisons. Opinions based on comparisons is just hate and personal opinions, not criticism. You can compare a game to the original, I know I do, but don’t forget the actual aspects worth noting as a separate game and not a HM game.

I've been playing Animal Crossing since Wild world and recently got a switch when New Horizons was released.
Recently I decided to give some other games a try - I just finished Summer in Mara. I really enjoyed it! It was really relaxing but still gave me rewards for completing quests (also there's cute animals).
My Time At Portia on switch was really not that enjoyable for me and I don't plan on playing more after trying for 5 hours. I've read the PC Version is better but I don't know for sure. I would just not recommend the Switch Version.
Also both Story of Seasons games out now for Switch were/are great for me. With Doraemon more laid back and FOMT more fast paced it's a good mix. But it gets repetitive quite fast.
I have the pc version and I bought it on the switch because my pc is jacked up, but it sucked so much I haven’t even played for more than 5 min. I absolutely hate it, the graphics look horrible. I highly recommend the pc version

A great list however I do NOT suggest buying my time at portia on the switch, but on the PC if you can. The port is so, so bad. It's the only game I've ever requested a refund for. I've only heard great things about Yonder though. I'll probably try that next to fill the void animal crossing left!
I play Portia on Switch and have logged over 100 hours, no problems. Only thing I’ve struggled with is the wooden elevators (like to Bassanio Heights) where I sometimes fall through, but I can fix that by being on the metal part as you go up and down. Generally still 10/10 on Switch, in my personal opinion!
I bought Yonder and it took me about 5 minutes to begin regretting it. I did play it for a few hours though and while the environments look nice, that's pretty much the best thing I can say about the game. I found the lighting was too strong, light too bright and dark too dark. Day/night cycle flew by wayyy too quickly. Character models are very ugly, and so are the animals I saw too, they look like plastic. And all the quests I saw or completed were just fetch quests, gathering materials and delivering them.
Flute Rocks when it first came out the loading took forever. It was so bad people demanded it be fixed. After a while they improved it and the game got enjoyable. I actually do think maybe it’ll be better on the pc but the switch version is so good.
Flute Rocks I just think that the performance and graphics doesn’t compare to other platforms, the game is not as beautiful and the loading screens take forever. The game however, will always be 10/10

Don't buy summer in Mara, it's an unfinished mess with bugs that happen easily and sometimes randomly that completely remove all your progress and softlock you.

Thanks for this amazing compilation! I would also recommend Kitaria Fables, which has been recently released. We love playing that game with my 7 y/o kid almost every day. It is a cute action-adventure RPG with farming and crafting. The search of relics and resources, tend to your farm to grow your own provisions, and take on quests solo or with a friend in local co-op mode! It really helps my kid to improve her skills. I can highly recommend giving a tryout. Sharing my solo gameplays on my TH-cam channel frequently.

Very beautiful game. It's mainly exploration and crafting though, there is not really a farming element, and it is more about the story, exploration, crafting/LOTS of harvesting, and seeing all of the cute creatures.
Another good game to add to this list would be dragon quest builders 1 and 2

loading screens are long (used to it with
sims4 lmao), the frame rate lags quite a bit, the grass is missing, cows are half buried in the ground, etc. So far that’s it for me. I also heard the game sometimes doesn’t save at the end of the night so people have to keep repeating days...
Mine was the former and more visual bugs and eh they don’t really bother me so I’m able to get past these issues and enjoy the game. I actually really love it
I hope the re:legend switch doesn't have as many bugs as it does on the pc version.

It's still in early access on Steam, so it may be a long while until it comes to switch. Going by reviews it is SUPER buggy in all areas, so it needs a lot of work yet. I'd keep tabs on the steam page for it to see when it releases there and then keep an eye open for when it comes to console.

I believe the main reason why people don’t like the game is because it’s not the original series, and it’s a knock-off that a translation company only tried to keep going because they had the rights to the title and didn’t want to just waste money not using it. It’s not the same game or series as the original HM and SoS. At least, that’s what I see the majority complain about.
In my opinion, the original DOES look better than HM: Light of Hope....gameplay wise and aesthetically pleasing wise. But I wouldn’t say I hate it. It’s probably at least somewhat decent.
I dont have deep connections to who makes the games so I dont think I can fully understand the theory of people not liking something because of who made it or didn't.
I thought it was a pleasant game!
Honestly don't bother trying to understand. There are way too many people in the internet from different background, cultures, opinions... The simplest answer is the game drifted from the original games and people don't like change.
